  1. Hi, Havent posted in ages here. Just wondering if i want to get around ram clearance with the thermalright PS120 if i can put both fans in the middle/back and has anyone does this/tested to see if this affects temps much? Saw this pic on pcpartpicker and would want to configure like this too incase of RAM height...
  2. depends what country hes from too, for example that PC partpicker list if it is 1675 USD.... would prob be 2300+ in CAD lol.... which is my case, US gets much better deals on electronics, partially to do with our goods/import charges which tax things higher. Aesthetic and matching a design/color scheme matters to me, as i like the showcase factor and a clean build with greys, blacks, whites, colors, whatever i feel like doing. If i pay 50 extra dollars for RAM because i like the look, i will pay for it because thats what i value. Of course i wont go overboard on my budget, its to a certain extent. I see your point though where if budget is tight or a concern, most brands are all reliable these days and buying whats on sale is usually the most economic option. Plus sometimes you get some nice snipes on surprise blowouts.
  3. yea i see what your saying. But i was making the assumption that the OP would update his graphics cards several years down the line. Many gamers keep their CPU's for a long time but do an incremental GPU upgrade to get the extra life out of a machine these days. If WoW is really his main game, ray tracing is a non issue and even then, the examples i have seen have minimal impact on the looks of a game. I would keep them all off for the next several years anyways.. personally.
  4. well, for WoW it doesnt matter what you get, remember that most of the new technologies are gimmicks anyway until widespread use. If you got a 2080 now its good for years and you wont notice that your missing out on anything. I always say to these questions which are always on tons of threads on tons of sites...dont worry or care about the future, tech changes fast and most of isnt relevant to basic gaming. No matter when you buy your card, something new is being developed and you will always be behind bleeding edge. I see your trying to "time" the next release because of the expansion in the future, if you really dont need a card for gaming right now, and your current rig can tide you over until mid 2020 then thats fine. But the 2080 Ti is beast and you wont regret it one bit if you buy it now. From a financial perspective, inflation and the costs of development are always running higher and higher, especially with all the trade war stuff going on. So technically 1,400 spent now, should get you more value than 1.400 spent in the future, because your dollar will be worth less and the new cards could be more expensive, unless Nvidia eats costs internally in some way or has some cost cutting measure that we are unaware of to keep pricing similar. Thats just my accounting/finance perspective
  5. i have never understood the point to these threads since i first built a PC back in 2008. People always speculating on whats coming and if they should wait, etc etc. Basically its simple, every new gen will be an improvement over the previous (for the most part). IF you are happy with the detail settings and frames... keep what you have. IF you want higher frames/settings then the super series is awesome and on 1440p will definitely help push better frame rates. Doesn't matter about the 3000 series because there is too much time between now and then and if your not satisfied, upgrade now and enjoy yourself. Just far too many repetitive "should i wait" threads on every site. I understand if you dont have the money to upgrade often and you want to make the most informed decision, but tech always updates so quickly, that you just have to buy quality now, and enjoy the ride. /end rant.. lol
  6. whats the real difference between the khadas and the topping? These are all in my price range, but wouldnt wanna spend any more on more expensive stuff. Whats even the real difference between the 10 and 30 for the topping? Im not a top audio snob haha, i probably couldnt tell the difference, unless i am surprised somehow.
  7. so these are a seperate dac and amp combos... ok. I will look up some reviews and additional info... do these come with cables or do you have to get your own? Thanks for the input man!
  8. Hey guys, Ive had an O2 dac/amp from JD labs since 2014 but im gonna be giving it to my brother and getting either a new version of the same one, or i have considered getting something different because im kind of behind the times if anything has changed in the field and if there are any better deals or combos out there. Ive enjoyed my O2 and have enjoyed listening to my DT990's (250ohm) and my HD6XX (300 ohm) on them and so if it is still recommended as a good product i have no problem going with a newer version again. Just lookin for some opinions and advice, thanks!
  9. the funny thing is, the US dollar as well as most currencies in this world are also backed by nothing, but faith of the public and banks. It's a sad system that leads to overprinting, devaluation, and high inflation that only benefits the mega rich and wealthy finance/banking heirs. Im not sayin Bitcoin is any better, its just that people thought it could be an alternative to fiat currency, but because something like that threatens the world system, noone will ever allow it.
  10. yea my brother has just the pro model, but he has a lighting node pro so yes his LED's were on from the first boot. Im thinking with this new platinum model controlling the LED's and fan from the pump head wiring, it may need the software.
  11. Hi guys, Posting from work atm. I just had a question.... I just put together my new computer and i have the AIO in the title. My question is when i did a test boot powering on without my monitor.. Only 1 of the ML pro fans had RGB illumination on start. So i thought hmm... i mustve screwed up on the wiring. I double check and watch the corsair how-to video on youtube. The platinum has 4 pin fan headers and fan RGB headers attached to the pump. I made sure That fan 1 and 2 are both properly plugged in to their respective PWN and lighting connectors...ok. So i try another boot and now neither of the fans illuminate with lighting. Both fans spin, so i know they have power and are working, but no LED's are automatically on at boot. So im wondering if anyone else has this AIO and provide an answer? Its weird because i saw 1 illuminate on the first boot, and then neither on the 2nd boot. Im going home to hook up a monitor, and install windows tonight. The USB header is into my motherboard from the pump head, and yes the pump head LED's work and they look nice. So because i dont have an external lighting controller, could it be that the LED's need to be turned on/set in the corsair software in windows??
  12. nevermind solved the issue fast hahaha. Initial display was set to integrated GPU, instead of PCI-E slot 1. Thats why with my GPU hooked up i couldnt get a BIOS screen *facepalm*. Its all good now!!
  13. Ok guys... i have a weird dilemma. Sad thing is i see many people with gigabyte motherboards having similar issues at times Alright, first description of problem. My graphics card died a couple weeks ago. I was sure it was video related because during league of legends with my brother my display driver crapped out, tried to restart several times and then screen remained black. The oddball problem was... after going into BIOS and changing to iGPU (after removing my old stud, the 780 ti) I still would get a black screen that wouldnt boot into windows... I found it odd so i figured that the nvidia display drivers were conflicting with getting response from the screen and booting into windows. So i did a reformat (had been meaning to anyways) and everything was good again, installed intel HD drivers (4770k) and played league at low-med settings So EVGA was nice enough to give me a one time replacement and they sent me a 980 ftw (was surely appreciated) And i uninstall intel HD drivers, throw in the new card, boot up, install nvidia drivers, everything seems good to go. Played a couple games of league, booted up life is strange for my sister to play, even booted up BF4 to test that i was stable under game loads. Everything seems good so far, except for i noticed that windows kept reinstalling the intel HD driver every fresh boot, and it confused a couple of games which would try to run off iGPU instead of my new gtx 980. Ok, so i uninstalled the drivers from device manager and figured O SNAP, i should go into the BIOS and actually turn off the iGPU that i enabled, thats one thing i had not done. Bringing up dxdiag also showed that video 1 was "Microsoft basic display adapter" and video 2 was "GTX 980" so i needed to fix this. Here comes my current problem. Ive never actually had a problem accessing the BIOS, so i restart and am tapping DEL key and from this point forward, i get a black screen when my computer is in the BIOS. Absolutely no monitor activity, signal is not detected. I tried hooking up my DVI port to the motherboard graphics and i still get a black screen after hitting DEL on system boot. My motherboard debug LED stops at what i believe is A6 during the boot cycle. Whenever the system boots normally into windows it always stops at A0 and done that since i built it 4 years ago, never had a problem since. So now windows keeps seeing 2 display adapters hooked up to my computer..... always intel HD graphics/Microsoft display adapter and a 980. Im thinking what i maybe SHOULD have done.... was try to access the BIOS and turn off the iGPU FIRST! Then attempt to install the card. Games are working flawless with my card installed but it must be confusing the system with 2 display adapters popping up and i have to constantly uninstall the intel one from device manager every boot up. This could all be fixed if i could access my BIOS. (I think...) So i wanted to vent my story of frustration here and see if anyone has some advice. But im going to uninstall nvidia drivers and pull the 980 out, try to hook up dvi cable to iGPU to see if i can access bios. It just doesnt make sense that suddenly i get a black screen with no bios feed to my monitor... Has me thinking that maybe the PCI slot or motherboard is a culprit suddenly. I could try changing CMOS battery or clearing CMOS, but the scary thing is if i cant get into my BIOS i dont wanna reset all the settings! Ok im gonna fiddle around some more, coming back later...
  14. Hi, Just calling out anyone who owns MSI mobo's or specifically a Z170 board (Krait or not). I have read reviews and issues about MSI quality control before and some people on other forums warn about their products. Does MSI just get a alot of flack on google search, or do they really have more DOA/failures than other manufacturers? I REALLY love the design and look of the Krait with the black/white combo so i would love to get my hands on it. I am assuming given how long they have been in business and continue to be, that i probably just read most of the bad apple board reviews that occur in every manufacturer from time to time. Just looking for some opinions, thanks!!
  15. ah i see... yea maybe my wording was not optimal, i was meaning are the thermal pads really required for extra cooling.
