I prefer Linux any day of the week. It's faster, lighter, more reliable, easier to install/reinstall, more stable, and most importantly, more secure than Windows. It's also better for developers, but lol Bash on Windows.
I literally just have Windows for gaming. Everything else I do on PC, I do in Linux, and 9 times out of 10, Linux does it better. Same goes for gaming, but not many games are made for Linux natively, and most of the ones that are, are small indie games.

FullTank1337 reacted to PlayStation 2 in Consoles that support RGB Scart or Component (to 6th generation)
Well, just as the title says, I aim to say what consoles support it and how.

    3rd generation:
Nintendo Entertainment System: not to what I remember. I'd love some correction on it.
Sega Master System: I think it supports RGB Scart natively?

    4th generation:
Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Super Famicom: RGB Scart, native (model 1, SNES/Super Famicom)/modification required (model 2, SNES Jr./Super Famicom Jr.)
Sega Mega Drive/Genesis/any add-on for them: RGB Scart, native (model 1), modification? (model 2)
    TurboGrafx16/PC Engine: RGB Scart, modification
Anything else: I will check up on and add.

    5th generation:
    Nintendo 64: RGB Scart, modification
    Sega Saturn: RGB Scart, native
    Sony PlayStation: no
anything else: idk, will check again

    6th generation:
Sega Dreamcast: RGB Scart and VGA, native (latter supports 480p)
Sony PlayStation 2: Component and VGA, native for former, PS2 Linux and boot disks for latter (Component supports up to 1920x1080i, VGA is highly dependent)
Nintendo GameCube: RGB Scart, D-Terminal, and Component, all are region locked (RGB Scart locked to PAL, Component to NTSC and NTSC-J consoles, D-Terminal is presumably the same as component)
Microsoft Xbox: Component and D-Terminal(?), not region locked (both support up to 1280x720p or 1920x1080i)

If you want me to do anything else, just say it and I'll look into it.
    Any questions? Post 'em!

FullTank1337 reacted to B16CXHatch in So I have this n64
Double check your TV and see if it has Component (the red, green, blue + red and white RCA connectors). On a lot of modern LCD TV's, the green connector doubles as a composite video connector (the yellow RCA connector).

If it doesn't have that, then just use a composite to HDMI adapter.

Or you could check if it has (RGB) SCART if it doesn't have component. (I don't actually know how common SCART is outside of Europe)

Here's what I know for sure:

Famicom/NES - no SCART support, requires a HUGE hard-mod that involves sacrificing a Nintendo Arcade machine (or aftermarket board)

Super Nintendo/Super Famicom - Model 1 supports native RGB SCART. Model 2 requires a hard-mod.

Sega Mega Drive/Genesis - Model 1 supports native RGB SCART - I don't know anything about model 2 or 3.

    PCEngine/TurboGrafx16 - Requires a hard-mod. (needs an add-on just for composite >.<)

    Nintendo 64 - Requires a hard-mod

Sega Saturn - Supports native RGB SCART

Sega Dreamcast - Supports RGB SCART, although natively does 640x480 60hz VGA.

I did void the warranty, but there was only 6 months left. And I told my brother he has to pay me if he breaks the ps4. We bought the ps4 together 1.5 years ago and we both paid €200 each.

Either you send it in, void your warranty or let the console die an early death due to heat

    Tell your brother that

FullTank1337 reacted to Moonzy in What's the difference between games on disk to those on cards?
cards = scratch resistant (to a degree), less seek time, good for consoles that doesnt put the entire game onto the RAM since it can just access the data almost instantly
    CD = cheaper to produce

I would see if Realtek has the drivers directly on their web site and download them to a flash drive. I do recall once upon a time during the Windows XP days when I used Ubuntu, I had to plug my laptop in wired to get the right wireless drivers to install. Hopefully you can find the drivers online and get them via a flash drive to you Linux box. Could also be the card may not be compatible, maybe its not the right driver. Hard to say.

I would check a supported device list before buying a new card. This way you can  find one that will work.

im about to give an neutral answare on this question.

peaple who says that a console is better than the other is because they have a good experience wit that console. (and mostley, they don't have a full experience of the other console where they speaking about. I don't say this things myself untill i have played both consoles for a time. usely peaple who say it are fanboys (on both sides). but you have to compare consoles at almost identical situations. like playing the same game on both consoles. after that, you can say what controller feels better what graphics feel better and what extra feautures feel better. but almost nobody does that. becouse thay believe that microsoft is better than sony or otherwhise, and will not test the other console becouse of this useless opinion.

Install Linux. Preferably a Debian-based distro with LXDE or XFCE. Something like Lubuntu. Maybe throw Windows XP on as a secondary OS...? That way you can play all your DX9 single-core games that run like crap on Win7 and newer.
While you're at it, go ahead and max out the RAM (should be able to take 2 or 4 GB) and get a graphics card for it. Pentium 4s are actually pretty fast, they are just limited by the one core (and the cache, and the thermal output...and the 32 bits) just make sure you dust it out, because CPU throttling on an old clunker is a big problem, even with tons of RAM, and a semi-badass graphics card (like 2GB of VRAM)

Other than that, you can make it into an office PC for documents, media center for videos up to 720p (maybe 1080p if uncompressed?), local file server, Router, the list goes on.
If emulators are your thing, it should be just barely enough to run Higan in Linux if it's a 3Ghz Pentium 4 with DDR2 RAM. It also might come in handy if your main PC doesn't support IDE.
