  1. Don't worry about it, on my driving test I was really stressed and drove incledibly bad compared to usual and I still passed. Only a few points above the passing grade but I still passed
  2. No point in paying for anything but a home mini. If you want to play music get real speakers.
  3. You're getting this a bit too far. It was so long ago that it's no longer engineering, it's history. I'm not an historian.
  4. Lol sorry, but I wanted to add that he might be confised by 32bit and 64 bit systems, which store data and do operations in packs of that number of bits, but that doesn't change the fact that a byte is 8 bits.
  5. A byte has always been 8 bits and always will be, I don't know what you are talking about. Just like 4 bits is a nibble and 16 bits is a word (also 2 bytes is a word).
  6. Seriously though, are people really choosing a console over a PC and vice versa based solely on price ? I like gaming on PC period. I don't care about the price.
  7. I know and I fully support AMD when I make recommendations, I know it isn't rational. Besides, I don't think I'll be getting a new display anytime soon after all.
  8. I don't really like AMD cards, the only time I bought one I had issues with the software.
  9. Hopefully I won't have to spend too much but I would really like a nice 4k gsync monitor. I don't really have a budget.
  10. Hello, I would very much like to upgrade my current display to a 4k screen for general use, but I don't have the graphical horsepower to play games at 4K properly. Does 1080p on a 4k screen look bad ? Thanks.
  11. Wow really ? It's hard to find benchmarks with my CPU !
  12. Yeah I'm not going to upgrade my CPU right now, I was just wondering about what I should do when Volta or Ampere comes out since I've always upgraded every next generation.
  13. Oh so by overclocking it I would get the frequency on all cores ? I didn't think of it that way that's why I didn't bother.
  14. Sadly my CPU isn't overclocked, maybe I'll FINALLY get to it during christmas break. But isn't turbo boost doing enough ?
  15. So based on this, my 3960x is actually currently bottlenecking my 970 ?
  16. Hello everyone, I'm currently running a 3960x with 16GB of ram and a GTX 970. I am planning to upgrade when the next Nvidia cards come out and I was wondering if I should also upgrade my CPU (and therefore my motherboard and memory). I know we can't possibly imagine what it will be like, so does a 3960x bottleneck a GTX 1080 Ti ? I don't feel like my CPU is slow by any means, but I might not be aware of it and it's getting old. (Sandy Bridge-E dates from the end of 2011) Thanks !
  17. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a really thin and light laptop for university to bring with me to classes and to do work on the go. I'm wondering if an i7 7500u, which is only dual core will be able to last me 4 years of computer engineering classes. Especially since the industry is FINALLY starting to up the core count of their new processors. I know we can't predict the future, but I'd like to have more opinions along with my own to make a final decision on weather to buy a laptop with the new 8000 sku's or not. Like the new xps 13 model.
  18. I hope I will, I heard it makes coding much easier. Maybe for prototyping ?
  19. Thanks that confirms what I just looked up, both have far superior raw specs, the question now is all about gaming. I should have thought of that earlier
  20. It doesn't require it, but it can be used to accelerate certain calculations. I haven't started yet so I don't know what I'll be doing but the recommended laptop (which I don't like) has a Quadro M620 2GB That's why I'm lost.
  21. Hello, I am talking about laptops, but more specifically about their graphics card, I hope I am not posting at the wrong place. I will be starting a computer engineering course in about 2 weeks and I am looking for a laptop to program, follow powerpoints and do matlab calculations (Which are accelerated by cuda cards). I have narrowed down to two choice, a laptop with a 1050 Ti, or one with a 1060. I will be gaming a little bit on the machine but I already have my desktop for this so this isn't really important. Do you think the 1060 will be significantly faster for Matlab ? I don't know if it can justify spending 250$ more. Here are the two laptops : 1060 : https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234455 1050 Ti : http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-rog-gl553ve-i7-7700hq-16gb-fb-138421.htm?promoid=1239 Thanks !
  22. Anybody know what resistance I would have to solder to a cable to make one myself ?
  23. Oh I didn't notice this, thanks ! Thank you, that's what I wanted to know the most.
  24. Hello everyone, Next semester I'll be entering university in computer engineering, and I'm wondering if I'll need a dedicated graphics card. Please excuse my lack of knowledge, I have stopped following the tech industry religiously a while ago. I know I don't need a dedicated graphics card to run VM's or to code, but the recommended laptop at my university for electrical/computer engineering students is a Dell Precision T3520 and I don't like it. The keyboard and screen look awful, the io is terrible, it doesn't seem really portable. But, it has a quadro, which makes me wonder if I'll need a dedicated graphics card. It's probably not necessary, computer shops are renown for making false recommendations. I doupt I'll be using programs which require a dedicated graphics card, but if I have to, do you think the Kaby Lake integrated graphics can handle it ? I heard integrated graphics have improved a whole lot. I really like this laptop with comparable specs : http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-zenbook-ux390ua-xh74-bl-i7-7500u-16gb-fd-135460.htm?promoid=1965 This is the recommended laptop (In the middle) : https://ti.fsg.ulaval.ca/fileadmin/ti/libert/documents/LiberT Automne 2017 - 3 portables.pdf It's in french but the specs read pretty much the same. In summary, do you think the Kaby Lake integrated graphics can handle what I'll need to do as a computer engineer, or do I need to search for a laptop with discrete graphics ? Thanks !
