  1. What you need is a VST host, look up tutorials on using Reaper VST plugins in discord, that's what you want.

At the ultra-low price point it's hard to beat KZ for value, they have great sounding inears from $10 up, I used to use the ATE but I slammed one pair in a car door and the other had the cable war through because it's right up against a metal piece (took a year or so for it to happen though). After that I decided replaceable cables were important so I had two pairs of ZS3, one wired and one bluetooth and they worked great for me until I decided to grab the new KZ S1 TWS bluetooth headphones. I prettymuch only purchase KZ inears so take my comments with a grain of salt but for the price I've never found something I liked more.
  3. But they use balanced cables so most people have an external audio device to feed them as there's no real way to get audio from your PC to both (without a stupid amount of adapters)
  4. DAC receives digital signal from the PC (or at least it should) so you don't have to worry about balanced cables between it and the PC.
  5. The dt990 250 ohm will not be powered well by your interface, the MA400 is about $30 and is probably the cheapest way to power those headphones.
  6. UMC 22 isn't a great interface, poor driver support and no dedicated headphone amp. UMC202HD is the good one that (according to the manufacturer) can power 250 ohm Beyers well. Now, unless you'll be purchasing an XLR mic there's little reason to use an interface and the MA400 has more than enough gain to power those headphones. Keep in mind that they are a studio option that provides clean gain, they are designed for precision so if you're looking to get a very musical amp that's not it.

  8. What is your mic? If it's dynamic a phantom supply won't help, phantom supplies aren't amplifiers what you need is an Audio Interface. If it's a Condenser mic, a phantom supply will help but phantom supplies aren't amplifiers what you need is an Audio Interface.

  12. 5 Pairs actually (six if you count SPDIF) and the dual headphone amplifiers can be set to different outputs (switch to go between 1/2 and 3/4 for each) that allows for two separate headphone mixes, say for you and a friend who is being recorded. Neither interface has per-channel phantom control but the 18i20 only has line/instrument selectors and pads on channels one and two while the UMC1820 has them on all input channels. 1820 also has a knob to adjust between monitoring your PC and inputs which can be helpful when tracking while the Scarlett relies on software controls for that sort of stuff (not that software is a bad thing, I just like analogue controls). IIRC the Scarlett pres have slightly more gain but in reality both have more than enough for Condenser mics and nowhere near enough for Large Diaphragm Dynamics so in practice it makes little difference. The Scarlett pres are warmer according to some but the warmth of a recording is a stylistic choice and can be attained through plugins fairly easily, the precision of the preamps on either interface is far better than the price range would suggest (for either) and I'd happily record with either interface. Behringer has gone a long ways towards fixing their reputation over the last few years and the UMCxxxHD interfaces as well as their X32 mixer probably have made the biggest difference to that. It helps that their acquisition of Midas gave them access to a tonne of better preamp designs too, one such design being the main selling point of the UMCxxxHD interface lineup. As for the ADAT counterparts, a blind test on another forum between the ADA8200 ($180 USD or so) had better conversion than the Lynx Aurora 16 (8 channel version goes for $2999, industry standard and it doesn't even have any preamps onboard). I know with ADAT you can mix and match a bit without any issues but for me that was the final nail in the coffin for my plan of purchasing the 18i20. I'm sure the octopre is great I've just never felt the need to purchase or use one since the 8200 is so well revered. In the end it's up to you what you purchase and either option is great but don't discount the UMC1820 just because of the brand, have a play around with it before making your decision, you might be surprised.
  13. They wouldn't be my first choice in this price range but I've been using the M20x for years and they're truly great headphones for the price.
  14. In theory, of course you are right, in practice there is no measurable difference between 44.1khz and anything higher. Most studios mix down to either 44.1 or 48khz for this reason and many studios don't even produce at above 48khz. If you can't measure the audible difference between 44.1 and anything higher the argument that the sample rate produces higher 'definition' audio is pretty dead in the water as if it's not measurable you for sure cannot hear the difference.

Before you get an 18i20 consider the UMC1820, I was leaning the same way but after comparing the two I ended up going with the Behringer because of the better price and more powerful headphone amplifiers, besides, they're both ADAT expandable and the ADA8200 (counterpart to 1820) has some of the best converters commercially available.
