Not really, he's great.  Super cute.  We have a lot of similar interests.  He's big into Kingdom Hearts and we kinda bonded over that as I had been playing it and he'd hang out while I was playing it.

Now we're both going through all the Halo games since he's never played Halo, almost done with 2.

Brick is expensive to transport, and North America has a gigantic land area. Austria is about 80,000 square Kilometers, the United States alone is nearly 10 million square Kilometers. Older houses were made from brick, but those materials get more difficult to source and have fallen out of favor for other reasons as well. I say this as someone that's worked in commercial architecture for nearly two decades, there's no reason to flex about having a 17 ton snow load or overbuild the structure of a building beyond a reasonable engineering margin. It's a waste of money and valuable resources, and a structure also needs to meet insulation requirements and other building codes and municipal ordinances, and brick may not be the best way to do that.

I doubt you have any familiarity with building codes either in Europe or NA, so your opinion on what's "solid" is of little value. Depending on the part of the continent where they're located, North American buildings have to stand up to things like hurricanes and earthquakes, which you don't have to worry about in Europe, so they're probably more "solid" than most of the buildings where you live.

Most buildings in the US are much newer, whereas in European population centers many dwellings or businesses may be repurposed from structures that have been there a couple centuries. The mere fact a structure isn't built out of brick or stone just because other building materials have been developed doesn't mean it's less durable, though.

I have an unpopular, non offensive,  opinion.  Since some real jerks believe depression is make believe and that his facebook conspiracy theories is the answer to everything.

Seafood gets a bad rap.  I love seafood, I've tried almost all of it.  The amount of people I meet that refuse to even try it because the name sounds weird or the fish or cephalopod while alive looks weird.  It's such a close-minded worldview.  "I refuse to try octopi cause it has suckers."  And?  It's cooked, it tastes amazing when cooked right.  I was raised with the mindset of, if it's food, try it at least once before you say you don't like it.  I've discovered that most seafood, tastes great.  But people don't want to try a fish or anything else cause, "it comes from the water and it sounds/looks icky wicky!"

This isn't me talking about people that have allergies, that makes sense.  It's the people that refuse to try it without having an allergy.

Oh shit that's right.  I actually forgot.
At the same time, this doesn't excuse it, but I consider half the products that released in 2020 as a soft launch.  They released on paper, but with all the issues with production and the global recession, they weren't truly available.
But since they were released in 2020, AMD should support it.  I just know they won't cause they don't care.

kaiju_wars reacted to Kisai in AMD prevents motherboard manufacturers from releasing beta BIOS for Ryzen 5000 on X370
I doubt this is the case. The problem with the AM4 migration path is that the MB manufacturers all cheaped out by releasing boards with too small of a firmware, so in order to squeeze a newer CPU generation in that wasn't intended for that chipset, it basically requires doubling of the firmware space. So the more likely reason nobody is permitted to have the firmware updated to support a newer CPU is that it creates a support problem where the released boards don't support 5000 and you need a 3000 part to flash it to 5000, because it drops support for the earlier cpu's.

It's the MB vendors that are either lying, or incompetent by cheaping out on the parts. Now, that said, AMD is not blameless either. If they were not intending to for all AM4 boards to support a CPU, they should have pulled an Intel and relocated a single pin, so everyone would need a new motherboard. Intel's reasoning is very likely the same, some minor architecture changes warrants a new chipset, thus the cpu has to be mechanically incompatible. It's very likely they (Intel) could have had every 14nm cpu supported by the same chipset, but the number of cpu's released will never fit on one firmware.

And here's the thing, in the end, most people do not upgrade their cpu's on their motherboards. Only the really high end builds may even attempt to do this because they like to piecemeal upgrade. All the non-X chipsets are not actually intended to be upgraded, because they're intended to go into "budget/business/laptop/embedded" devices.

One thing we need to keep in mind and understand is that budget chipsets are very likely the same chipset core, but it's the difference between an i7 and an i3 in terms of features, and thus they are very likely have been binned, and the firmware updates may unlock features that were explicitly turned off, and the motherboard vendor didn't engineer the board for (such as PCIe4.)

kaiju_wars reacted to mariushm in AMD prevents motherboard manufacturers from releasing beta BIOS for Ryzen 5000 on X370
    I'm fine with it.
AMD never promised support for x370, and officially only promised support for 5xx series chipsets then agreed on b4xx chipsets due to consumer demand.
If they let Asrock make updates for x370, every x370 motherboard buyer would put pressure on the other manufacturers and ask for bioses and complaint that they're greedy and don't release bioses to make more money out of new boards, which is bad.

Most x370 motherboards had small size bios chips, which can't even contain the microcode and all the stuff needed for new ryzen processors, so they'd probably have to drop support for ryzen 1xxx processors and a lot of those boards don't have bios flashback feature, which means if something fails during bios update, you're screwed.

Also, the x370 boards - majority of them - have bad VRMs ... bad as in poor heatsinks and only 4-6 phases with average mosfets ... decent for up to a 8 core cpu, but forget about a 12-16 core cpu on it.
A lot of manufacturers weren't sure about how good AM4 processors would be and they preferred to focus on paying SLI licenses and fancy heatsinks and rgb instead of vrm and io features.

My issue with the Wii U, and as much as I love the system... is it's games library.  Both first party and third party.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, and Super Mario 3D World are my favorite games on the system.  They're great games, but they're very similar or straight got ported to another system.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse granted is a sequel from the DS.  But the 3DS got three kirby games itself.  Yoshi's Woolly World is ported to the 3DS.  3D World is a sequel to 3D Land.  And a lot of Nintendo first party titles are like this.  They have straight ports or similar enough games on a 3DS that your average consumer, didn't need to drop $300 plus $60 a game to get Wii U games.  Just buy a 2DS for $70 and then pay $40 per game.

There's some decent third party games too, but they're hard to find after the first year and a half cause of how fast it dropped off.  But even it's biggest third party game, ZombiU, eventually got ported to other consoles too.

The gamepad was comfortable as all hell, the battery life irritated me with it though.

The Wii U should have just been called Wii 2.  But Nintendo tried to be cutesy with the name.  I didn't have lofty expectations of the console.  Nintendo had great games on the system, but they overshadowed it with the 3DS and just.. underdelivered.  No one really had too lofty expectations of the console, at least from what I've seen.  Nintendo just underdelivered and didn't live up to all promises.

As for the Switch.  I honestly don't get why people are pissed about no web browser.  I get that a lot of consoles have had them.  But being realistic here, how many times do people actually use their console browser over a proper PC or laptop, or their smartphone, or an actual tablet.  I've never once with my Wii U back in the day gone like, "I need to google that, let me open the Nintendo Wii U Browser TM!"  Nah, I just... pulled out my phone or my iPad.

Every single one of my consoles, minus my Xbox One S, just because Android TV is utter garbage, I use for just games. I have more convenient ways to stream content from bed, or the couch, or my desk.  My Switch plays games and it does that well enough. I can play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at work no issues, and that's my favorite JRPG of all time. (as an example).

But it was a disappointment for me.

So I have quite a few consoles, I like to collect games as a hobby (on top of playing them, yes).
The Wii U was the first home console I bought with my own money.  My Wii was a chirstmas present back in the day.  And in 2013, right before graduating, my buddy gave me his 360 cause he switched over to PS3.  So about two months after graduating, the Basic set hadn't even been canceled yet. So I went to Target, I picked up a deluxe set Wii U, Batman Arkham City, ZombiU, and obviously the console came with Nintendo Land.
and... until about 2014, Nintendo wasn't doing anything with the console.  It was a slow start, and it didn't have too much.  3rd party support seemed like it was going to be super strong at first, but after the first year it tapered off hard.  I had to sell my Wii U in college for money, with all the games I owned.

The Xbox One.  I was working at a now defunct retail chain and they put the wrong sales sign on the Xbox Ones.  I had warned them of this but they didn't believe me.  So I took advantage of it and got an Xbox One for the same price as a PS4 release year. I liked it more than my Wii U at first, I was liking it.  I was still on the high of that 360.  I saw the teaser that a new Halo was coming.  While I hadn't owned a 360 for long, I played it a lot with friends with games like Halo and CoD and Gears and shit.  So now I have an Xbox One.  I got a few of the games with gold titles, I tried Destiny, and Sunset Overdrive is a truly underrated game of the 8th gen, but then.. nothing.  For quite a bit.
The 8th gen just had a super slow start.  So I got bored and even disappointed with my Xbox One.  I kept it, but I also had to sell it in college for money.

Now fast forward to today.  I bought another Wii U and Xbox One S.  I love both of them, and they both get a decent amount of playtime from me.  I have a few of the heavy hitter third party games, and all of the games Nintendo published in North America.  My Xbox One collection is slowly growing, and getting back to what it used to be.  The Wii U especially, holds a special place in my heart.  As the two consoles lifetime went on, I did have more fun with them, and now looking at the end with both consoles, they had good games on them.  It just took so long and I was just like, "this, kinda sucks.." at the beginning.

This is from anecdotal experience tbf, but here it goes, I'm also using these unpopular opinions to vent some.

Most people who buy Playstation don't care about Sony published games.  Most of my friends might play Ghost of Tsushima or God of War cause I gush about them a lot, but most don't care to play a lot of Sony's titles or outright skip them. It's just the platform they grew up with and they stick with it.  As a result, while Sony's exclusives sell well, their outlook is skewed to think their audience only cares about western titles and third-person, over the shoulder games.

Sony has (had), a diverse and unique set of IPs that could rival Nintendo.  Jim Ryan came in and decided to hyper focus on the the western market, and close down Japan Studio.  The only IP they have so far confirmed to have save is Astro Bot.  Sony now has a lot of third person, over the shoulder games.  And that's fine.  God of War is my second favorite Sony title ever.  I loved God of War on PS4.  That first boss fight (and you know which one I'm talking about it if you played it), is one of my favorite moments from the 8th gen.  I loved Ghost of Tsushima, even if you want to be as basic as possible and go, "it's just Sony making an Assassins Creed."  That's fine.  You don't always need to reinvent the wheel with your games, some games just need to be a lot of fun.  But Japan Studio, imo, was always that "experimental, try new things." side of Sony that rivaled Nintendo on that front.
Loco Roco on the PSP, fun little platformer that uses physics and the shoulder button for platforming, and it works surprisingly well and is a lot of fun.  I recommend trying it before the PSP store closes.   Gravity Rush on the PS Vita.  It's rough compared to 2, but it's a proof of concept and does a lot for 3D platformers, it adds a new plane to play on. Gravity Rush 2 also, on the PS4, it perfected what Gravity Rush on the Vita did. The Hot Shot's Golf series.  It's golf sure, but it has that Nintendo, "it's just fun," charm to it, while not being Nintendo.  Hot Shot's Golf on vita even allows you to play as other Sony characters, including Kat from Gravity Rush.
Maybe I'm biased cause Gravity Rush 2 is my favorite PS4 game, but I'll use Gravity Rush as an example. (And this goes into a 2nd unpopular opinion in this).  Yes Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are listed as action adventure games, and they are.  But they're also platformers, and until now, Sony couldn't make an actual good feeling platformer, or great one IMO (For the most part).  Sly Cooper was fun yes, but the rest from Sony always didn't feel... tight enough... to me.  Nothing got the tightness, controls, and polish that Nintendo has with platformers, hell even Microsoft nowadays has.  Then along came Gravity Rush, and Sony finally did it, they made a good platformer.

Now before people come in here and tell me how I dare I shit on Sony for this, or dislike Jim Ryan, or I have no idea what I'm talking about.  I grew up with both Playstation and Nintendo.
    I had a PS2, a PSP, a PS3.  I later got a PS4 and PS Vita.
My PS3 collection is one of my largest collections.
I have always liked Sony's games.  It just sucks cause moving forward we aren't going to get all the cool Sony games we used to get.  It feels that way even more now with Jim Ryan in charge, him hating anything older than 2017, hating Japan Studio, hating the PS3, PSP, and Vita (and even closing their stores all this year).  Hell he's so shitty that Sony didn't even give devs forewarning.  There's still people making games for the Vita, and some have gone on Twitter and announced they never got a warning from Sony about this.
Hell one dev even said they got a dev kit for the Vita from Sony just a month ago.

I just feel like Jim Ryan is taking Sony in a not good direction.
