  2. I am in the process of getting my mom a PC upgrade, and I took advantage of Newegg's 15% bundle.

I went with a Z690 board mainly for future proofing.  I know that LGA1700 is getting it's final gen with Raptor Lake Refresh, but with this board seemingly to be one of the more decent-ish boards, if in the future, I could put in an i7 14700K or something to get more life out of it.

Here is the parts list for any who want to see.

    PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JPGZ34

    Storage: *Kingston NV2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive  ($57.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte EAGLE Radeon RX 6600 8 GB Video Card  ($199.99 @ Newegg)

I think this will do her pretty good.

Only reason I didn't go with AM5 for her also was because of prices on DDR5.  Only reason I went AM5 and upgraded when I did was because my 2700 was showing it's age, and I was at microcenter and could take advantage of a bundle.

      I take that statement back.

      Based mom.

  3. I think AI is stupid. Not all AI, but AI that people use to "make videos for them" and "draw art for them." It's all soulless and I don't think it should be encouraged. I think AI can have a really good impact in other ways and situations. I just don't think using it as your main content creation tool is the way to go.

I have been, been using it to play Fortnite and Helldivers 2 on it with no issues.
  5. My bf got an ultrawide monitor, so he gave me his old Gigabyte 1440p monitor.  My first 1440p monitor too.  It's pretty dope, and it has freesync premium so it works with my 2070 Super.  It's funny too, he got one after I told him later down the line once I finish getting the new SSD and case for my PC, I was wanting an ultrawide.

I'll keep this monitor for the time being, but I do eventually want an ultrawide. It's also nice to have something besides 1080p for my PC, and the 2070 Super holds up with 1440p surprisingly well.

3440x1440p is awesome highly recommend it. 1440p is great too, if I were you I would just skip 1440pUW. Enjoy it ✌️

  6. I used to always try to do budget builds as, "skimp on everything you can to get the best GPU you can." But nowadays I look at budget builds a little differently. I tend to put a little bit more money into the PSU and motherboard. PSU is obvious. Mobo because even if you plan on only getting say, a Core i5 12400F, or a Ryzen 5 8500G right now, getting a better board now should (in theory) last you a couple generations that it can handle a much better CPU down the line. Like I'm slowly acquiring the parts for my mom's new PC. I got her the 12400F (first new Intel build for me in years), and I paired it with an ASRock Z690 board. She can't OC the i5... but the board does have support for the Core i9 14900KS... not that she needs a nuclear reactor for a PC, but my point is there. (It's the same reason I went with my Gigabyte board, it's not a high end board, but it's a respectable midrange board).
  7. Redragon K631 PRO keyboard and Tangerine 62G switches. The keyboard is hotswappable with 3 and 5 pin switches, I've already applied them to the keyboard. Love how these switches feel!
  8. My friend had a PC I helped him build with parts found for stupid cheap. His GPU had no backplate, but a red PCB, the MOBO was a blue PCB, RAM was green PCB, but it still performed well for the price he paid. It was fun to look at, like he got an amazing bang for buck. Wasn't uniform at all, but it still was neat and interesting to look at with how it turned out.
  9. Now that's it's been a couple days, my take is that, yeah, I'm glad GN called out LTT. Could it have been done better? Sure, but it needed to be done. LTT's inaccuracies are part of the reason I stopped watching LTT altogether. Their employee(s?) trying to call out GN and HU on testing and accuracy was laughable at best. What they did to Billet Labs was just disgusting, and how they reviewed that mouse was also laughable, especially since from certain angles on the video for it, you can tell there's still plastic on the feet. Linus's rant on here was just a nothing burger, it was gaslight, gatekeep, (attempt at) girlboss. He felt attacked and considering how passionate he is about LMG, I can understand why. But having watched GN's original video a couple times now, it's clear he wasn't attacking LTT, he was voicing his concerns. He mentioned during the warranty debacle that LTT/LMG would be treated like any other corporation from then on, and that's what he did. Steve's follow up also wasn't bad, it was straight to the point, he said what he had to say, and left the ball in LTT's court. As for that apology video... Lmao, lol even. It is one of the videos of all time. Idk what it is about it, it felt forced. Some of it felt genuine, most of it felt fake AF. The new CEO being front and center at the beginning was smart, I felt since the beginning of this whole thing he should have been the one doing the talking, not Linus. The first joke about sponsors was fine, I know a lot of people have been arguing about that on reddit and twitter. Breaks up the tension and eases the viewer into a video with a heavy topic. The LTT store plug, and showing off a new screwdriver color wave people can buy though? Not the time and/or place, and made most of the video feel fake and like "we just want to put this behind us, buy our merch uwu," and the sponsor joke again at the end was a little much, but that's not as egregious as the LTT store plug/ad, or the monitizing of the video itself. Luke and the new CEO felt genuine to me, so did Yvonne. Someone should have kept Linus on a tighter leash though, or not had him in the video at all, he just went right back to gaslight, gatekeep, (attempt at) girlboss. As for the Madison situation, I don't have a huge opinion on it yet, I hope her the best, and I won't attack her or go after her or LTT over the allegations, I'll simply wait to see how that plays out in court (if it goes to court or settlement). All in all, I feel like GN did the youtube tech community a favor, a lot of viewers had been saying this stuff to LTT for a long time, so have their employees apparently according to the "employees answers" video, but Linus and other leadership didn't listen until a peer of theirs in the community called them on it.
  10. A lot of your issues are just a "you" problem. You bring up some decent points, sure, but they're all issues that have solutions. Don't buy an ATX case, get one without a glass side panel, they still make aluminum cases. Cable Management isn't a waste of time, it helps a lot on the off chance you do have to do some troubleshooting, but PCs are also customizable and personal by design. You don't want to cable manage? Then don't. It's your build. Who cares what others think or say? Sure, a lot of people don't like RGB. I don't care for it, but I also don't mind ARGB, it allows me to set a color I want and it makes it easier than ever before to color code a build. Custom water cooling isn't as widespread as you think, it's still pretty niche. You don't have to make a custom loop, I don't, and neither do most PC builders. Sure, Nvidia GPUs, but you say that as if Nvidia is the only GPU brand on the market. AMD still makes GPUs, good GPUs at that, and Intel also recently started getting into the dedicated GPU market. You have two other options to pick from if you're unhappy with Nvidia. I agree that modern computers aren't as fun. Yes, all black PCBs and black/gray/white/combination of the three make for cleaner looking builds, but I miss the wacky colors and designs of heatsinks, the different colored PCBs they'd do, etc. It would make for a messier looking build, but those were at least fun to look at.
  11. My LGS had a huge sale today! It was their 20th anniversary and they had all games and systems 50% off and all movies and TV shows at 75% off. Picked up a few things I was wanting, got the Pokémon SwSh Switch Lite for $90!
  12. I should watch House again.. Got a 1TB SSD for my PS5, Crucial P5 Plus. Just had to order an aftermarket heatsink for it. It was on sale and I had a gift card from my bday. Got the SSD and heatsink for like $35.
  13. ITS FINALLY HERE!! Xenoblade Chronicles OST Trinity box set. A giant box set of the complete OSTs from Xenoblade 1, 2, 3, and their OSTs! I preordered this so fast when it was first announced! It’s my favorite RPG series with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 being my favorite RPG of all time! I am so excited to finally have this!!
  14. Nah, it’s their bundles for me, they come in clutch when building a new system. Sometimes their sales are decent too that it makes it worth to go to one over waiting for the mail for certain things.
  15. This is about Final Fantasy 16, and I'll spoiler it because the game just recently came out.
  16. Also a fair point. Also let's be real, even if BNSF and Canadian Pacific did hold up their end of the deal, they wouldn't actually utilize high speeds, or if they even could. I've ridden trains (at least in the US) in Denver, New York, and Minneapolis St Paul, and I'd argue their systems, while not perfect, are decently well set up.
  17. The thing is at one point we could (I'm not saying to the extent that other nations have it now), and we have individual cities that prove that at least parts of the US knows how to implement public transportation. Our issue is two (probably more) major issues. Lobbying from the car industry, because a lot of cities had a semi decent public transportation system in the past, and our two biggest train companies. Amtrak was basically a bailout to save what is today BNSF and Canadian Pacific, with the lines they still own to be upgraded to be high speed rail capable. They keep delaying upgrading their lines. The US only has one "high speed" line, and it's on a stretch of the eastern seaboard that Amtrak owns. We in theory could do public transportation again, but lobbying from BNSF/Canadian Pacific and the car industry will mean we never spend the money to actually do it right. (Also I want a viable high speed rail public transportation system in the US. I'd even be happy if the current routes Amtrak has were upgraded to high speed rail nationwide.)
  18. I've stopped trying to get people to get into PC gaming. I've learned that the average consumer just doesn't give a damn. I have a few friends, and while yes, they do have gaming PCs, they don't care about the latest specs, the fastest GPUs/CPUs, staying up to date with everything. Most of them just want to play games with everyone, they don't care how. Granted, this is all anecdotal. But even on discord and other social media platforms, people I talk to just wanna play the latest Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation games. A lot of them also already have 4K TVs and if they want to play games in 4K, well it's much cheaper and easier to buy a Series X or PS5 and play games in 4K that way than building a PC capable of it. IDK, I guess my unpopular opinion is that, PC gaming isn't the end all be all, and it's not the best solution, especially for a lot of people. It'll always remain niche compared to consoles.
  19. I buy the Best Buy Essentials lightning and USB cables to charge my shit, use for Apple Car Play, etc. I keep the cables that came with my devices also, so I never needed to buy new ones. On top of that, if I just need a USB C cable to charge something from my PC? Well I just use the ones included with my Switch Pro Controllers, those things are built like tanks and they're just included with every switch controller (something Sony could learn from) Don't really see how LTT could justify the pricing of a cable through their website, especially considering the prices of other things on there, what might end up becoming a $20 to $30 cable.
  20. And you also completely missed what the person was asking also. Like, yeah, Linus isn’t wrong, but that’s not what the person was saying, asking, or insinuating. It was simply about inclusivity and feeling like they weren’t alone, especially considering that the YouTube tech space is basically represented by straight dudes. They weren’t saying that a gay content creator is better than a straight one.
  21. I've done it several times, first time with the clickbait titles and thumbnails. Second time, it was when I became content with my PC build and I just gradually cared less about PC hardware so I stopped watching. Started again for a bit during the pandemic, and it seemed like Linus was going off about something random all the time on Twitter. The whole "adblock is piracy thing," the Attack Helicopter joke in a video, and when he attacked someone on twitter asking about LGBTQ tech content creators, saying how that person shouldn't be looking at their sexual orientation on if they're good or not. (The person who asked him this wasn't saying that, they were just curious as a fellow LGBTQ person). Ofc, the cesspool twitter is, Linus going off caused a bunch of chodes to come out of the wood work and force the person who asked the question to lockdown their account. Now, most of the videos I don't find interesting, so I'll check once a month or smth and see if anything seems interesting.
  22. Then what would you recommend that’s not overly expensive?
  23. The cooler I'm not too worried about with noise, especially if it'll be fine. As for case fans, I know it can take an 80mm slim fan at the top, and I think 120mm fans on the side. Might grab a couple of Noctua fans.
  24. Yeah, the Wraith Spire I have has the copper slug. As for the SSD, I completely forgot about that! Apparently this ADATA SSD has DRAM cache? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1J3C23?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1
