So my roommate is getting his dad's old work computer.  Has a Core i7, 16GB of RAM, a 450W PSU, and a 120GB storage device, don't know if SSD or HDD.  That's all I know for now.  But my roommate is wanting to get into PC gaming with it.


I'm thinking, buy a cheap 1TB HDD and an RX 470.

Oh yeah, it'll be kicking some serious ass.

    450W should work with a 470 though.  So I'm thinking he should be fine.

    If it's 120GB of storage and it has an i7, it must be an SSD (or his dad apparently used an 8 year old HDD)

    The computer is like 3 to 5 years old... that's all I've been told so far.  I'm thinking it's a first or second gen i7 though.

    The PSU in the system will probably be under a lot stress. Work PC PSU are not meant of adding GPU's.

    Just let you know the 470 can pull about close to 150 watts full lode so yea.

    Hey everyone, funny thing on that PC.  I still haven't seen it, but I was sent a picture of it.  It was built at my job, The Computer Store.  So I know the 450W PSU it is using will be at least decent.

    Also, according to my roommate's dad, it's using dual AMD Fire Pro GPUs.

    Also forgot to add, when we switch them out for a RX 470, my roommate said I could have the FirePros
