  1. I quite like the understated design. Doesn't really shout about being a performance notebook other than the subtle red accents. Reminds me of the Audi RS6: Estate car with a Lamborghini V10 engine. Phwoarrr.
  2. Currently using 2x 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD's in RAID-0 as my boot drives due to my speed addiction and need for a responsive computer for my daily tasks, and use a Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive to store all my music, photos, documents and games as they take up a metric butt-tonne of space and don't want to use too much space on the SSD setup. Been meaning to get some form of backup storage but don't really have the cash at the moment and working my ass off in college. Lost 770GB of music back in 2009 and don't want that to happen again!
  3. Pretty awesome giveaway, good luck to everyone!
  4. Cheers for the quick replies. I do quite like the look of the K70, but it's a fair bit over budget from what I can see. Glad to hear that QPAD are good too, I shall be comparing this to the Quickfire Rapid seeing as that also comes within my budget.
  5. Hi guys, Yesterday my Logitech G19 died on me after just 2 months, so I contacted Amazon for a warranty replacement. They told me they have none in stock so they are just giving me a refund when the receive the keyboard back. So now's I have the opportunity to buy a keyboard again, I'm thinking of going mechanical, more specifically, the QPAD MK-80. I've never owned a mechanical keyboard before but have used them, and I quite like the feel from what short experience I have had with them. My question is, are the QPAD keyboards decent? The MK-80 is £5 cheaper than the £90 paid for the G19 so is ideal for the price range I'm aiming for, as I can't go over that price. I'm quite a fan of the cherry blue switches too, so if there are any other keyboards out there that utilise those within the price range, I'm open to suggestions. I do quite like the look of the QPAD MK-80 right now though. Cheers.
  6. I use a Noctua NH-D14 with a 3570k @ 4.2GHz and my temperatures are great.
  7. Wiser words have never been spoken. ;)
  8. Changing to cooler is no problem for me, I've stripped and rebuilt many cards over the years and have also rebuilt my own when it got clogged up with dust, and as the blower cooler isn't great for my temperatures I am after something more beefy. As for getting a 680, it was £150 more expensive than the 670 at retail was, and was purchased 8 months ago. Well, I say purchased, I actually didn't get charged for the card when I bought all my components for the build in January, so it's not like I am losing anything really. I think I'm going to go with the Prolimatech MK-26 anyway, seems like after many hours of google translating forums that the Alpenfohn is not 670 compatible.
  9. Hi guys, Joined the forum a couple of days ago so I'll start by saying hello to you all! I'm after replacing the blower cooler on my 670 and have 2 coolers in mind that I'd like to replace it with; the Alpenfohn Peter or the Prolimatech MK-26. I know the MK-26 fits the 670, but it isn't mentioned on the Alpenfohn. I know of a few aftermarket coolers that have fitted GPU's other than what were officially listed for them, so was wondering if anyone had any experience at all with the Alpenfohn / 670 combo as I would much prefer this cooler to the Prolimatech. All help is appreciated. Regards.
  10. They're not terrible drives, if power efficient storage is all it's for. I wouldn't use one as a primary / boot drive though. Had a few in the past, and although they proved reliable, they were slow as hell. Really, really slow. Shouldn't be too much of a problem if the OP is using an SSD to boot from as stated.
  11. No problem. Well if you want to spend as little as possible then the i5 3570k would be a better bet as it is cheaper, and there are a wide range of motherboard choices out there for the LGA 1155 platform as it has been around much longer than the 1150 Haswell socket. Also, the performance gain from Ivy Bridge to Haswell isn't that much (speaking of the CPU alone), and as you aren't throwing bags of cash at every component, some features of the Haswell platform won't be utilised to their full potential. For 900 euro you should have no problem getting yourself a decent i5 Ivy Bridge system. Gigabyte make reliable Z77 motherboards that aren't too expensive, as with Asus. Your other components are all good and case is a personal preference so stick to those and you'll be good to go. The Noctua NH-D14 is arguably the best air cooler on the market and is near silent, so as a work machine that'll be a bonus + It's great for a modest overclock, so will fit your requirements nicely. Regards
  12. Hi there, Do you have a specific budget in mind for this build? I generally find that Intel have been better on the price / performance front than AMD as well as running cooler and more efficiently, so the i5 could be worth that little bit extra, especially the K series if you are planning to overclock. As for cooling, how do you want to go about it (liquid / air / closed loop)? With my current build I am using a Noctua NH-D14 on an overclocked i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz and my temperatures are very good (idles at around 24 Celsius and leads at around 55 Celsius, winter temperatures are as low as 8 Celsius idle) and it is also rather quiet, being a Noctua product, so I could personally recommend that cooler if you were happy on air. http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=34&lng=en As for WiFi, which is how my main rig connects as it is not near my router, I use a TP-LINK card which works excellently http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-WN951N Hope this has helped a little bit.
