  1. The way it was described to me by the ISP customer service was that "bridge mode" disabled all router functionality and radios in the ISP Modem and sent the internet connection directly through to my ASUS router, letting it handle all the IP configurations and such. The ISP I use is in Norway and is called "Altibox". I mentioned the suggested DHCP lease and the bridge mode being the problem to my ISP customer service and they also said we could try using the modem in "default mode" with the radios disabled, the only downside they mentioned would be that we are effectively going through 2 routers and any port forwarding or similar things would have to be done in both devices. I will try the new configuration and see if it improves things.
  2. The LAN1 (of three) port on the ISP modem is connected to the blue port with an internet symbol on the Asus router. There is another port called m2m on the modem but that doesn't work it seems like. All other connections gives me no internet at all.
  3. So I have a 500/500Mbit connection over fiber-optic cable coming to my house. It feeds in to a modem provided by the ISP. The modem is set to bridge mode and feeds my Asus N66U router updated with the latest firmware. Internet drops out regularly but the ISP says everything is fine coming in to my modem. I have noticed that the blue "connected to internet" light on the Asus N66U goes off but the ISP modems "connected to internet" light is still on when the dropouts occur so it seems that after a while the Asus router looses connection to the ISP modem for some reason. Any idea what might cause this? Does the ISP modem update some internal ip or dns or something regularly and the router doesn't get that new information? Restarting the Asus router usually solves the problem for some time but it gets annoying real quick having to do it at least once a day. Sometimes just running the diagnostic tool in the Asus router android app also restores the connection. Suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further?
  4. Let me follow up with a few quick questions: 1. If I add files to the drive while it is resynching, will it restart the process from the beginning? 2. If I clean install my windows drive (different SSD drive) will windows still recognize the two drives as mirrored drives or do I have to do some wizardry to get them back together? Thanks!
  5. My original backup disk (just a single 3TB drive with no redundancy) started dying on me. So I bought 2 new 3TB drives and put them in RAID 1 to prevent a similar situation and recovered my most important files. Now my new volume has about 52GB of data. The drive is just for storage and does not contain any windows files or software that runs in the background. I noticed that the drives where active all the time and didn't spinn down going on many hours now. Then I noticed it was actually reading from one drive and writing to the other in what seems to be a synchronization operation. It reads and writes at over 170MB/s so with only 52GB on the drive it should be finished a long time ago. Or does it resynch the entirety of the drives regardless of actual space used? This is my first time using RAID so I was wondering if this is normal? Will it happen often or just the first time? I expected it to just be synching/resynching the files I add.
  6. Logitech G930 which I use when gaming online with friends. They have decent sound and mic quality but get a bit sweaty after a few hours. They are a couple of years old now and have started to have some issues with mic not unmuting after a mute. Sennheiser HD650 for gaming alone and music. Hands down the best headphones I have ever owned. Bought them back in 2009 and they are still working flawlessly with amazing sound. Beats by Dr. Dre - Powerbeats2 for listening to music when I am going to work or running. Initially I was kind of disappointed by these. But after I bought some aftermarket foam tips from Comply it made a world of difference and they sound very good even if a little to powerful in the bass region.
  7. I am trying to set some custom fan profiles for my CPU fan using the software included with my ASRock Z170M Extreme 4 motherboard called A-Tuning. It does not seem to be working. My CPU fan sits at the lowest setting at 400-500 RPM even when the CPU reaches 90 degrees in cinebench as shown in the picture. If I change the lowest point in the curve the fan speed changes accordingly so i know the PWM control works. It just seems that the change with temperature doesn't work. Are there some MB settings I have to set for the profiles to work? Or is this simply horrible software and I need to use something else?
  8. Alright folks. Bought the card yesterday and so far it seems to be working great. Got 16834 in Fire Strike. Is that a typical number for 1080's? Using GPU-Z it looked like it thermal throttled for a couple of seconds during the run but the fan speed was never above 2100RPM which was indicated to be 54%, how come? Do I have to manually set fan curves to get it over 54% fan utilization?
  9. Sometimes I miss my home country which has 5 year warranty enforced by law and a 30 day moneyback guarantee on all computer parts bought in web shops also enforced by law. Might be why parts are so expensive in Norway though...
  10. Here is the manufacturer website. http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/product/graphics_bord/nvidia/gf-gtx1080-e8gb_blf/ It seems the warranty is one or two years. I'll have to confirm it in the shop. I think I'll buy it, try it and I can report back on how it runs. Thanks for the help folks!
  11. So what you're telling me is that I should head down to Okinawa and befriend some US military personnel with US addresses in Japan? Not a bad idea.
  12. I bought that CPU from that shop yesterday and its running in my rig now: The webpage is 100% legit and I actually only paid 32,000yen for my CPU in the physical store located in Akihabara. I am not worried about the shop, only the GPU brand. The return policy though is a bit weird. I can return any product if i pay for a "return insurance" for about 5USD. However it only lets me return the product and get store credit in the amount. Not money back.
  13. I am looking in to buying a GTX1080. Due to my case limitations I am limited to the typical founders edition size cards both in height and length. I live in Tokyo and found this: http://shop.tsukumo.co.jp/goods/4988755030250/ The brand is 玄人志向 which translates in to something like "Expert-oriented". It seems to me that most of the GTX1080 cards are quite overpriced in Japan ranging from 800USD to 1000USD. However this card is only about 620USD. I have bought a lot of computer hardware over the counter at Tsukumo before and have no complaints. What do you folks think? Is it safe to buy a brand like this?
  14. I belive you are correct. I measured it with my oscilloscope and the pin is always at 5V. Here is an excerpt from the manual. I belive the CHA_FAN1 header should be PWM controlled.
  15. So I brought out the old oscilloscope and did some measurements. Seems the PWM pin is always at +5v.
