Sotti got a reaction from metro8 in gtx 780 sli or gtx 1080?
I've been using the 780 superclocked SLI since 2013. No problems at all and all games supported so far. So I don't know what people is talking about. It looks to me that most of people that talk about SLI don't have one.

That being said, I'm changing the 780 SLI for a 1080 SLI. The reason is even with high clocks on the 780 SLI (watercooled 1200mhz+ core) can't play some games at 1440p at solid 60fps. So far I've been using my 1440p monitor for gaming and not my 4k monitor because the 780 SLI just don't have enough VRAM, and of course even if it had enough RAM, doesn't have enough power for 60fps.

Agreed, it varies and especially for what you use it for.

At home, I use a single 20" 1680 x 1050 monitor as my primary, and a 32" 1080p HDTV as a secondary (Mostly for youtube/netflix on my bed).

At work I'm using dual 22" 1680 x 1050 monitors. I cherry picked the best ones we had on hand for spares, and we didn't have any 1080p ones left.

I think my "idea" workstation setup would be a single 21:9 1440p monitor, flanked by dual 16:9 1449p monitors that are height-matched (Or possibly just triple 21:9 1440p, but I'm not sure if that would be too much).

For gaming? Either the same as my workstation, or perhaps just triple 16:9 1440p.

Yeah, I understand that. I just wanted to point out that he might be considering going from 3 monitors to one good one, sometimes it's difficult to say if you haven't tried a new good monitor. I have some experience with this. I have had configurations from 1 up to 4 monitors and I've been thru a lot of resolutions from 1024p up to 4K. In my case I'd prefer a good 1440p monitor rather than 3 1050p monitors (the last 1050p monitor I bought was in 2003 for a laptop)... but that's up to the OP as you said.

8K is around the corner and probably will become an standard in the next years just after 4k.

Now 4k is starting the rise to become an standard. This could take up to 5 years to have most of people with 4K monitors.

    I ended up with a Dell U2713HM (1440P) and just bought a Dell P2715Q (4K).

Gaming at 1440p is hard with my rig (4770k + 780SC SLI) so I'm stick with 1440p for gaming now. I'll start to make some test to see how much I have to lower the settings in my games to get the 60fps but I guess I won't use the 4K monitor till I update my GPUs... so no before next summer. And even with the next iteration of NVIDIA top notch (1080 or whatever is called) I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to do it at 60fps maxed out. It's true at 4K I won't need much AA but who knows.

Regarding your question, depends on the size of the screen. 1440p at 24" probably is crisper than 4K at 46", and then you have the distance view... so is very relative.

When the resolution rising will stop?? Probably when is so high everyone agrees on call if "Infinite resolution", this is everyscreen is above 1000ppi. What resolution is this? Well depends on the screen size but in a 5" mobile screen you have to go above 4K... So I can see TVs much higher than 8K not too far. Japan already has some emissions at 8K resolution.

All of these are very minor points.99% vs 100% sRGB is extremely minor and not noticeable.
Both monitors support 10-bit color (1.07B colors) not just the ASUS, but again this doesn't matter to the average user.
    Both monitors are HDMI 1.4
Dynamic Contrast Ratio (CDR/ASCR) and response time are both basically meaningless, just read my FAQ at the top of this section for a more detailed answer.

The 10 bit colour doesn't matter- unless you are using a quadro GPU, you won't be able to drive all those colours. I also can vouch for Dell's great customer service, and their monitors come very well calibrated straight out of the box. Just something to think about.

If you use chrome or safari on a phone with not enough RAM to hold all the tabs, Either it will refresh the page when you switch back or it Wil cache it which makes switching very slow. It's very very noticeable.

A 770 would be great for 1080p, but at 1440p you'll be seeing sub 40fps on modern games. Like everyone suggested, grab a 780 and save yourself an upgrade in 6 months.

Great but... most of 780 owners are already playing at 1.1 or 1.2 Ghz.... This is what I meant everytime I've recommend a 780 or 780SC over a R290x, in performance is better than 290X, it simply overclock much better.

I own 2 780SC and both are running at 1200mhz core speed.

4k will be the standard before 2560x1440. 4k is being pushed very hard right now unlike 1440P. So i would look out for 4k rather than 2.5k
