  1. Taken the system to a repair shop for diagnostics and now Ive been told both the Motherboard and CPU and DEAD. Im out £510 on a system Ive spent 2 years saving and building and now I cant even afford to replace either of these components.
  2. No spare psu. The only thing connected to the mobo is the psu, 2 ram stick and 2 fans to the cpu fan header. Ive tried with the cpu installed but no cpu cooler and i still cant get it to power on when i press the start button for some reason. At this point im facing the prospect of having to buy a new cpu, motherboard and psu to see if any of the three i have is responsible and at that pointi migbt as well buy a fucking console because the performance will be the same it will be cheaper.
  3. Surely the fans should spin however if the mobo is receiving power when the start button is pressed atleast?
  4. Ive disconncted all sata connections, removed all m.2 drives, gpu and cpu. Only had the RAM, 2 fans and psu plugged into the 24 pin with cpu 8 pin removed and the psu still wouldnt power on when i pressed the illuminated start button on the motherboard itself. If i disconnect the psu 24pin and short it the PSU and HDD spin up. Ive no idea at this pointm
  5. I disconnected the cpu power cable and tried powering on with only the motherboard 24pin connected and a red led by the cpu 8pin came on indicating their was an issue so the mobo could detect there was no power coming in when i intentionally disconnected cpu power.
  6. Not much i could do other than stick it all together and assume each component worked. Ive built numerous pcs using used parts but this is the first time ive had this issue where it just outright refuses to power on, not even the fans will spin. What i cant understand is how the motherboard bios will update when flashed but refuse to power on or post. I dont even get any error codes on the back of it when i press the power button, nothing. The mobo is like 2x the value of any other part in the system and if its broke im fucked.
  7. Spent the last 2 years saving and buying parts for my pc. All parts bought used off eBay or reused from old build. First buy was an Asus Crosshair VIII Impact DTX motherboard, and ive built the remaining system around that. Heres the specs (all bought used on eBay) Ryzen 5600x 2x8GB Patriot Viper 4000MHz CL19 DDR4 Dell OEM GTX 1060 ASUS Crosshair VIII Impact DTX Silverstone SX800-LTI PSU Icegiant Prosiphon Elite Cpu Cooler various SSDs\HDD from previous build that arent important. Put it all together. Plugged it to mains, updated mobo BIOS using flashback feature on mobo, waited till it stopped flashing to indicated its complete (motherboard isnt compatible with 5600x out of the box). Press power button and nothing. Motherboard lights stay on, keyboard and mic light up showing they are reciveing power through mobo, tried reflashing bios and it seemed to be successful again. Press power and Nothing. Stripped it all down, dismantled mobo and replaced the CMOS battery which i assumed might be dead as the mobo was stored in a box for nearly a year now whilst saved for other parts. Reassembled and still nothing. Shorted the PSU without the cpu in and psu starts and HDD spins up. At this point i dont have the money to buy replacement parts to test with as i bought everything on a super strict budget but didnt want to compromise so its taken over a year bidding and buying to collect and build this pc but now all i want to do is throw the damn pc out my fucking 2nd storey window.
  8. The system is for a family members business premises. They system they had running died (my guess is overheated judging by all the dust build up). I offered to build em a new system thinking it would be an east task, ive built like 5 gaming pcs myself, but this has been the most infuriating. All the cameras are wired and run to a DVR card, the entire system is disconnected from any networks or internet for security but records 24/7 with like a months worth of footage backed up. I just cant seem to get a damned OS installed on this system. I cant understand it. It has a ive replaced the cpu, mobo, ram psu, hdd, cd drive, everything but the chasis, and now i cant install windows for some reason, from windows 2k to Vista
  9. I'll be checking back in the morning for any responses. Its been 3 months trying to ger this damned pc to work, an im at my wits end with it now
  10. I have a pc running on some relatively old hardware, Intel Pentium cpu, LGA 775 motherboard, 2gb ram, that I am trying use for CCTV recording. I have the system all wired up and it posts, but i have been having a nightmare trying to get an OS installes. First I bought a copy of Windows 2000, but it would just hang on install, so i tried installing it with another cd rom drive and it wouldnt even read it, giving stating that some file was missing. Then I tried a copy of windows 10 I have on USB, the boot manager detects the USB but does not tells me install boot media upon restart so im assuming the motherboard doesnt support USB boot. Now Ive bought a copy of Windows Vista Business 32bit OEM with a license keys, but it comes with 2 cds. The one states it must be preinstalled by the system builder for all new builds But when installed simply brings up a command window as administrator with system32<wpeinit and no prompt afterwards. If i install the other CD i have in the case first I get this prompt asking me which operating system to select. Im certain that there should be more options than just this. Upon selecting windows setup the pc begins to load, then I am left with a blank screen and nothing but the blue back ground from the wpeinit photo, except I dont even have the command prompt on screen. I have tried installing the 2nd CD after getting to the wpeinit command, and that does allow me to type commands into the administrator command prompt. I had got so far as going into diskpart, cleaning and partitioning, then checking the directory of the windows CD for a windows.imo but this is all I found. I dont know where to go from here. The video i followed online had a file on their cd that stated windows.imo which would be a bootable file, but I dont have that option it would appear. Here is the video i followed for reference https://youtu.be/a1zJblWqEFE Any help would be greatly appreciated
  11. So heres the problem. My grandfather has a business and their cctv computer crapped up basically. Being the grandson who "knows computers" (basically ive built a few custom gaming pc's, cutsom watercooled them, stuff like that, I was basically the one to call on to fix it. Anyway when I got my hands on it, I checked it and this is what I was greeted with. They have some construction works going on outside and apparently that kicks up a lot of dust, but im betting some of this is due to the fact it prpbably hasnt been cleaned in the last decade or so. So i cleaned it up (cpu block and fan, gpu, case) and reapplied some thermal paste, and it looks much better. I havent bothered with cable management atm as its still unfinished until i can get it working. Basically I turned it on and,was suprised to see it post, what with some of the parts being from around 2001, and the operating system being windows 2000 so nearly 2 decades old. The problem was that after posting, the windows start up would hang at about 60%. I bought a windows 2000 SP 4 cd with key off eBay, changed boot priority to CD, and restarted. The pc overcame the 60% hang, the screen goes black, then comes back at like 98%, then hangs again. The little bar along the bottom continues to pulse left to right, but the keyboard becomes unresponsive. I have tried everything I can, even booting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, debugging, directionary restore, last known good config but nothing seems to work. Even safe mode appears to hang. I have tried booting with the DVR card removed, reseated the gpu. My suspision is that the gpu may have overheated as it appears there is some artifacting on the windows 2000 loading screen. I am uncertain however if this would prevent the pc from booting, even from a bootable cd. I have offered to build him a new pc for as cheap as i can get the parts, however it would be more convienient for me annd him if i could just figure out how to fix this one. The pc wasnt connected to the internet, and was running pretty much 24/7. I suppose it could be component degredation due to age or mistreatment that some component has failed, but i cant figure out which. My money is on the gpu, but i cant be certain. Does anyone here have any experience with a similair issue, or any suggestionf for me on how to fix it.
  12. Yeah new intel cpus are ridiculously expensive now. Personally I might jump onto the AMD Threadripper platform if their cpus like the 1950x drop as low as £350-£400 because at that price the 16 cores make sense. Also Asrock did a X399M Taichi mobo that would also fit in my current case and it supports up to 3x M.2 SSDs mounted to the board itself.
  13. Im know what you mean when you talk about having an affinity towards a certain bit of tech. For me its the X99 Platform. IMO its by far one of the best value platforms now which still has support for new tech like M.2 and multi gpu setups with a i7 5930k or higher. Also it was one of intels last platforms in which you could get the cpus to OC around 50-60% higher with little to no experience with overclocking, and all with a AIO setup too. My current i7 5820k will keep me going until I can find a cpu that supports the same minimum of pcie lanes and can hit 5ghz stable as Im trying to build a 1080p 240hz gaming pc for my new ASUS PG258Q monitor but the cpus and gpus are only now capable of reliably delivering that and they are grossly expensive. I only paid £200 for my cpu and mobo combo used on eBay and the idea of having to spend X2 that just for the cpu doesnt sit well with me anymore.
  14. A GTX 980TI is perfect for 1080p gaming though, and 6GB VRAM is ample for modern and future titles. Ive owned 1080's in sli and that was overkill for 1080p gaming because they dont scale well in SLI especially in 1080p. Also a 980TI is almost equivilant to a 1070 and I dont think you will find anyone calling that a shit GPU. Also I only paid £200 in total for the 980TI with the Waterblock included, which is about £100 cheaper than they usually sell for on eBay and £70-100 cheaper than an aircooled 1070 sells for with a refference cooler. So its actually pretty good considering most people buy the likes of a 1060 or 1050ti which get destroyed by a 980TI with a decent OC like +100mhz Core, +150mhz vram. Also the gpu never exceeds 38'c which is great in a loop like this.
  15. I needed to maximise the cooling capacity of the rads that I could mount to the case, which meant mounting as large a rad ontop as possible, which the Monsta 80mm filled perfectly. There was just enough space inside to fit the additional 30mm thick rad inside with the push pull configuration, so these two rads combines gave me the effective cooling of a up to 2x240mm rads potentially. There really isnt any AIO 120MM rads that fit this role sufficiently either, and Ive got plenty of experience with custom loops now so I figuered why the hell not. Plus, theres a sense of personal achievement when a completing a custom loop, and it really makes a pc build unique and personal. Plus, I wanted to try something no ones done before.
  16. Ive recently completed the custom built pc I always promised him I would. It cost me <£1000 in total, and Im pleased with it. I was aiming for a modestly powerful build that can do 1080p 60fps High-Max settings in most titles and future gamez for him for years to come. Here are the specs: .intel i7 5930k clocked to 4.4ghz, .Asrockmotherboard X99M Extreme 4 .16gb of corsair dominator platinum DDR4 3000Mhz RAM running at 2666mhz atm .Geforce gtx980ti with EKWB fitted .Samsung 950 Pro 512gb and 256gb M.2 ssd's .Seagate Firecuda 2TB SSHD .kingston HyperX 120gb SSD .Corsair ax760i .EK Revo D5 Vario Pump and Reservoir, .Alphacool 120mm 30mm thick Rad and nexxxosmonsta 120mm 80mm thick rad, .Fully custom watercooled hardtube Loop .Silverstone ft03 PC chasis Mix of slim 15mm 120mm fans and 2x Corsair SP120L's on the Monsta 80mm thick rad
  17. Happening on nearly every game now. RIP 1080.
  18. It only happens sometimes in certain games. Anyway someone is buying the card off me on eBay so it is their problem now haha ? Let this be a warning to anyone buying pc parts online lol
  19. No, i even have the power limit and temp limit set to 120% in msi afterburner.
  20. So basically Ive owned my GTX 1080 for about 2 years now. I used to run relatively high overclocks on it +245/+495. Now I cant even run +50/+100 without games crashing. I have removed all overclock on my gpu and things have only gotten worse. And now recently I have encountered this issue where my screen will freeze whilst gaming with these pixels appearing, the sound will continue, and the game will either crash or the screen will go completely black with no video feed being detected. At this point i have to reset my pc. Does anyone know what this issue could be? Is it degredation of the gpu, is the card near death. I have the latest drivers installed, the gpu is watercooled with temps not exceeding 60'c, yet the gpu is constantly hitting its power limit at 1 when the gpu is at stock boost clocks of around 1860Mh. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  21. Not if they intend to overclock their cpu, ram and gpu.
  22. Buy a used i7 5930k and a something like an Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard, used GTX 1080 founders edition and a Corsair AX 860i, 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 RAM, Corsair H115i cpu cooler, any case that supports ATX motherboards. Storage is up to you.
  23. Im currently pushing my GTX 1080 OC as far as possible. My current OC is 100% Core Voltage, +120% max power limit, +189hz clock speed and +465hz memory speed. The problem is I used to be able to run it with in SLI at +198hz and +498hz on the memory, but now the card cant support that on its own. The card appears to be hitting the power limit aswell for some reason and fluctuates really badly. I have GTX 1080FE but its watercooled with an EK FC1080 and custom loop with 2x240mm and 1x360mm rad. Can anyone recommend how I stabalise this OC?
  24. Finally got the system completed and up and running. Heres some pics of the finished thing. p
  25. Got my new loop installed. Everything looks great. Going to test the loop for leaks. Hopefully should be gaming on it by the end of the day.
