hmm i personally have no intention to use the water cooling block yet so i kinda left it out, the reviews were nice though and it's nice to see asus put in a hybrid solution for those who don't feel comfortable ripping their fan/heatsinks apart but have an all in one solution [another being their maximus 9 extreme mobo] technically it wasn't worth it for me [at this time of writing] as we are talking about 1500-1600aud in terms of initial price...

not that i have experience with anything water cooling since I've never touched base on... but my initial impression is that wit h that hefty cost upfront, it is to my belief that the poseidon [with Watercooling] will obviously have the advantage over the strix in terms of core temps [gpu/finfet/vram]. assuming both are overclocked to 2GHz++ at the same spec same gpu clock same memory clock / etc.

edit:  most of my comment just coming off the reviews that ive been watching on Youtube and reading off various sites so there might be some degree of error with my "claims"

Man, congrats on the build bud.  Results look good!

I'm not having any VRM related issues clear up to 4.9 GHz on 10 cores and 5 GHz on 8 cores in Cinebench.  Proof that if you make a video where you test the cheapest x299 boards that you can in an open bench configuration with no air flowing over the VRMs, you can make people believe that the sky is falling.

Depends on implementation, single-port TB3 controllers are limited to 4 lanes of DisplayPort 1.2 (max 4K 60 Hz), while dual-port TB3 controllers have up to 8 lanes of DP 1.2, which can be allocated to a single port if desired (so max 4K 120 Hz or 5K 60 Hz or 2× 4K 60 Hz, though using the full bandwidth on one port will disable video capability on the second port). I haven't looked into it but I gather that's not how most aftermarket motherboards with TB3 are set up.

I haven't watched the video and I will probably have some similar issues with it. But the concept of it can be explained. Think of the standard as a toaster. 4k can be like a regular piece of white bread that can easily fit into the toaster, no problem. 5k would be like a piece of sourdough which (depending on the loaf and toaster) will usually not fit in the toaster. The toaster has two slots that can easily fit 2 pieces of white bread (4k monitors) and if those two slots were put together then they could fit a sourdough slice (5k monitor) but those two slots just can't be arranged like that. That concept is the same that can be applied to technology and of course, that is a very distorted way to explain it but hey, it works.

The companies generally do not mention the color gamut that the laptop supports.
In order to find that you'll need to look for a review of that particular laptop on YouTube, youtube reviewers usually cover that if the laptop is a high-end one.
Dell XPS 15 with 4K display has the best color gamut as of now.

Umang Goel got a reaction from UnCaged in Displayport 1.3 / 1.4 where to buy?
Displays with DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 will be out when the displays start supporting over 4K @ 60 Hz like 4K @ 120 Hz or 4K HDR @ 60 Hz.
Graphic Cards with DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 are already out although they just support DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 but are Displayport 1.2 certified.
Cables are the same across all versions.

The main reason why DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 are not mainstream yet is that Intel's current Skylake or even the upcoming KabyLake processors are not compatible with DisplayPort 1.3/1.4. The CannonLake processors which will be out in late 2017 are expected to support these.
    Till then, no 4K @ 144 Hz.

Many laptop manufacturers continue to opt for dual core processors as they consume less power, thus generating a lot less heat, while still performing quite well for regular use (oh, and they're quite a bit cheaper). Intel doesn't currently make laptop processors with more than 4 cores, so a desktop processor is necessary, anyway, and unfortunately laptops that use these kinds of processors aren't terribly common.

Power usage for CPUs are going down every generation, so it wouldn't surprise me if we see some actual mobile hexacore i7s.

Clevo has had models with the i7-4960X. I'm not sure if they have something recent, but they probably do.

Another point is that many professionals don't buy Core i7s at that point, but opt for buying a Xeon. One reason is that a similarly clocked Xeon (that supports more PCI-E lanes, has more cache, and supports more RAM) is almost $400 less than the 8 core i7.
    Intel Core i7-6900K 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor $1049.99
    Intel Xeon E5-1650 V4 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor $669.00

Tring to cool a 100+ W chip would be a nightmare, you would end up with a 4-5in think laptop to provide enough cooling.

If the laptop only was 2-3 inches thick it would just thermal throttle.

Just like how @doomstriker said, it would make the laptop VERY hot, also power consumption is a point as well, unless it has a super battery then it would die in minutes

Heating issues. Those processors are powerful but generate HUGE amounts of heat. With a desktop case, it is easy to fit a big cooler required to keep the temps down. But with a laptop, you don't have that much room to work with and everything is kind of jammed in there. A hot CPU inside a laptop could do damage to itself and other components around it which is why Intel makes less powerful versions of different processors to keep the temps at a good range.

Edit: and those processors EAT UP power which laptops can't provide.

Like getting a Broadwell-E 8-core processor on a laptop would be great for professionals.
    Thoughts?
