  1. Okay, apparently I was downloading something in the background and that could be why the temp was spiking. It now seems to no longer be spiking, however it is still fluctuating between 35-42 degrees.
  2. Okay, so I finally built a new computer, super happy. Everything running, all looking good, however I noticed something about the CPU temps and I am wondering if I should be concerned or not. At idle, my CPU temps are going from about 35 degrees and spikes up to about 45 degrees, then go back down to 35. It will do this ever few seconds. Now I know that temperatures do fluctuate some, but I'm not sure about a 10 degree swing back and forth. CPU is not overclocked yet. Overall system temperature seems stable at around 42 degrees. Do I need to be worried? System: i7-6700k (Noctua nh-c14s in push pull) MSi z170a Gaming M5 Sapphire r9 390 Nitro 16 GB Hyper X Fury 2400 NZXT s340 case
  3. Okay, so if I do go with the 390, which one should I get? Reading over reviews, it looks like the top two to chose from is the MSI and the Sapphire Nitro.
  4. Okay so I am building a new Skylake i7-6700k build and I have all the other parts picked out ready to go. The only thing I can't seem to decide on is the graphics card. I currently am playing games on a 1080p monitor, however I am wanting to upgrade to a 1440p or 144hz panel soon. I just want to know what some good options are for GPUs. Should I just say f-it and go all out for the 980ti? Or would I be happy with going with something like the normal 980 or even the r9 390x? My primary hesitation about going for the 980 ti is obviously the price. While I can afford the $670 to get the card, I certainly would be more comfortable spending only $400 if that would mean I could still get excellent performance.
  5. Hmm, okay. Thank you very much for your responses. I think the smaller form factor of the s340 is more important to me than having the noctua nh-d15.
  6. How is the airflow on the case? I plan on using the NH-D15 cooler not an AIO and I was concerned about not having adequate airflow through the case. Also, how is the case size wize (in terms of real estate it takes up on a desk/the floor)?
  7. I am finally in the process of upgrading my PC after three years and it seems that the hardest step of the process for me is finding a case that I really like. I had originally fell in love with the NZXT H440, however after a lot of looking, I ended up instead leaning more towards the S340 (seems to have better air flow, as well as being a smaller form factor, which I really like). I really want to use the new Noctua NH-D15 cooler, and it seems as though it will not fit into the S340, which really bums me out. Also, it seems that mounting 3.5" HDDs seems to be a bit more of a challenge as the mounts are not tooles. So I guess the question is, what are some good alternatives to the S340. I really like the smaller form factor and would like to stay in the smaller mid-tower range. Price really isn't a determining factor here. However something that will fit the Noctua NH-D15 as well as having tooless 3.5" HDD mounts is a big plus.
  8. Well what would be a better wifi card then? I just bought this wifi adapter on Sunday. I guess I can still return it, but what would be an alternative
  9. Okay so dropping down to 2.4 band seems to have made things worse if anything. I checked to make sure I wasn't on the same channel as my neighbors, but a lot of them are using 2.4 GHz bands (only one other person using 5 GHz band). Unfortunately I can't move my desktop, it's now in its new home in the master bedroom. I did move my router to the middle of the house (living room, one story house) from the office. The signal strength seems to be stronger, however connectivity issues still the problem. Oh, I live in a 1600 sqft home that was just built this year (2015).
  10. Okay, so I am kinda at my wits end at this point. Long story short, I have had to move my desktop setup into our bedroom because we are turning my old office into a nursery (yay kids!). Anyways, there is no way for me to have a wired connection to my router with my desktop in its current position (which isnt going to change right now). So, I went out and got me a usb 3.0 wifi adapter (Netgear A6210) to connect my desktop to my router (Asus RT-AC87R). Unfortunately now, my connection seems very unstable. I am on the 5 GHz band, and using Vistumbler, I made sure I was not on the same channel as any of my neighbors (im on 161, closest neighbor on 149). The RSSI is hovering around -50 dBm. Anyways, I am not sure what to do at this point. I am unable to play any games online, can't watch Twitch streams, I feel dead in the water. Any help would be grateful. Router: Asus RT-AC87R WiFi adapter: Netgear A6210
  11. So, after getting sucked into folding@home (thanks to LTT!), I decided I wanted to go ahead and update my pc this year, rather than wait. Anyways, I was wanting to get an i7 4790k, dual gtx 970s and probably switch from air cooling to one of the AIO water cooling options. I currently have a Seasonic 660W 80+ Platinum psu, and was wondering if this would be enough, or if I need to bite the bullet and upgrade the PSU as well. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ss660xp is a link to the psu.
  12. Okay, looks like lots of votes for the Asus, thanks all
  13. Hey guys, I just finished building my new gaming rig, and the last thing I need is a new monitor. My rig is running a single Gigabyte GTX 760 at the moment (I plan to add a second in SLi around December) and I use it primarily for gaming and watching movies. I really have no idea where to start in terms of finding a good monitor. I have a $200 budget and would like to get something around 24" if possible. Thanks for any help.
  14. So they are essentially all the same then performance wise (or at least close enough I would never notice)? Also, I heard that there is (or will be) a 4 GB version of the 760, worth getting that or no?
  15. Okay, so I finally decided to go with the GTX 760 for my new gaming build. Howvever, with so many options in terms of branding, I am kind of lost in terms of which one is the right one to buy. I have heard that Gigabyte and MSi have great cards, but what about Asus and EVGA? Kinda lost, not sure where to go from here.
