  1. I'm mainly looking online at the moment. The local store I tried didn't have anything for it, but I'll be looking at a few others nearby. Was mainly just checking if there was anything in particular I should look for. Thanks for the suggestions/ While I'm rebuilding the engine, what else should I replace? It's an interference engine so definitely getting timing belts, but what other stuff would you normally change out? Water pump, pulleys, maybe the starter? This is my first full automotive engine rebuild and we're not trying to upgrade too much, just get it reliable and working well.
  2. Just throwing this out there in case anyone's familiar with DSMs... I'm president of the autos club at my school. Mainly we just work on the club car, a '98 Eagle Talon Tsi. Right now we have the engine (the one and only Mitsubishi 4G63T, ours is a seven-bolt if I remember right) out of the car to rebuild, and I need to find a good kit with all the gaskets/seals/rings/bearings to rebuild it with. I've done some research but I'm not really sure where to start and I haven't found much. Anyone know a good place to shop and what I should be looking for?
  3. Saw one of the new camouflaged M-plate Ford Fusions just now driving home, that's always fun. I interned in Dearborn over the summer so I already know what they look like, but it's nice to see one nonetheless. Reminds me of work.
  4. So in case anyone else on here is slightly more of a car n00b than I am, I made an instructable from when I painted my valve cover, and it got featured so they must think it's pretty OK. http://www.instructables.com/id/Paint-Your-Engine/
  5. Driving what? I'm curious, as I hypermile my Cobalt. I normally get high 30s/low 40s highway if there's no traffic.
  6. Very nice. The Cobalt is a pretty underrated car- the SS is great, especially the turbocharged ones. I wish there'd been a coupe for sale when I was shopping but the sedan was the only thing in our price range at the time. It doesn't look as sporty and there are less parts available. I guess all that means is it'll be even less expected when I turbocharge it and start chopping sportscars at the drag strip. /s
  7. I drive a Cobalt sedan with steel wheels and a chip in the windshield. It's not even got the crappy supercharger. I am in no position to be judging anyone for liking the Protege, I just thought it funny that of all the cars to be preserved so well for 16 years it was a rather plebian Protege. Definitely. That's one thing that's great about that kind of car is it has character, especially if you've worked on it yourself at all. And the Protege is pretty cool as far as common cars go.
  8. Oh, I intended to be humorous, not inflammatory. Didn't mean for any misunderstandings if they occurred.
  9. Absolutely, it's worth it. Cheap project, just takes a few hours. The prep work is the hardest especially if you use hand tools like I did. I used Duplicolor's engine paint, pretty happy with how it turned out and still looks fresh after more than a month. If you want to do the lettering you can mask it just like any other paint, that's how I did the stripes on mine. I filed the logo down instead of masking though.
  10. Wow. Of course when you find something from 2000 with <30,000 miles on it it's a random Protege. Did it blend in with the walls of their garage so well they forgot it existed or something?
  11. Heyyyy LTT I'm back. Got my first car in June. 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT sedan, has the 2.2L EcoTec. Got it for $2,900 in great shape with 142,000 miles on it. Was a family car. Pics: Already given it a bit of love; intake, weight reduction, painted the valve cover, shorty radio antenna, working on re-sleeving the wiring harness and replacing the hood insulation. Thoughts?

    Michiganders!

Yeah, there are two or three I've seen in the area. I've yet to meet any of the owners to ask about how they got theirs though. They're really impressive vehicles and I do hope the company eventually gains a foothold here, especially once the more affordable Model 3 eventually makes it to full production.
  13. I'd have an AI on my computer. I would try to make friends with it, and teach it not to go crazy and take over the world dammit Would you rather only be able to build PCs out of used components or only be able to play video games released more than five years ago?
