    I have been summoned.

Alright, if there is one thing I have learned about the 3D printing industry is that you really do get what you pay for? Sweet, a $200 reprap kit! Surprise, it's a piece of crap that will cost you more money and much more time then buying a quality machine from the start. The same goes with filament. I made the mistake of buying a $20 kilo of filament from maker geeks. Worked great at first, then I could never get it to print again. Hell, that shit started to burn in my hot end.

To answer the OP's original questions, it gets easy once you figure out how your machine works with a certain material. Hell, even getting a different color of the same filament can totally screw with your prints and the settings required. I mean sometimes my ultimaker just doesn't want to print some days, and the next it spits out perfect prints.
Is it expensive? Well yeah. At first. If you want to do it right, you need to get a propped printer like an Ultimaker or a Printrbot. These range from $300-$3000 ($1000 is about the sweet spot). After you get your machine working, a $40 spool of material lasts awhile so you don't have to buy that stuff too often.
Is it fun? Hell yeah. When it works. It can be infuriating as every machine has it's own quirks, but once you learn your machine it's a blast.

Start with something cheap and dirty like one of these Chinese 200€ kits, they are great for experimenting. Just take in mind 3d printing takes a ton of setup and you will fail a lot of print.

Yes, resin printers are really amazing, unfortunately they cost a lot more than classical 3d printers...

Some sort of glitch then? Let us know if it happens again. It's a R9 380? Jeez, heck of a glitch for such a new card. Never mind changing the thermal compound that'd be a waste of time.

When you don't have other components to test with its hard to tell. Do you have any other graphics cards you could test, or a friend you could borrow one from to trouble shoot? You could try putting the card in another computer to see if it has the same issue.

    Before

    After

Watching Scrapyard Wars, I have always found myself thinking - "Gee, I should try this".

This will not be my personal rig, I just decided to find some used parts online, put them into a new case, prettify it and... well I haven't quite figured out the "and' yet.

    So here goes.

So far I have gotten a pretty banged up, but not too shabby used PC at a very nice price. i5-2500k, ASUS P8P67 LE mobo, 16 GB of 1333 A-Data memory, 2TB WD Caviar Black 7200RPM HDD, A 500W Fortron Saga II 80+ PSU and a pretty ballin' looking old-school Zalman CNSP9900 All-Copper CPU cooler with a blue LED fan. These are the parts that I intend to use. It also comes with a banged up case that I can not invision using for anything, as well as a GTX 460 and a CD-RW, which I will probably keep for something else or sell off. Otherwise, the machine has been tested extensively and works without a hitch.

In place of the GTX 460 I found a guy selling what he claims is a "brand new" MSI GTX 970 Gaming pretty cheaply. I will test it and see if everything is ok. If it is, into the Ice Queen it goes. If not - I'll find some other good GPU offer.

I intend to buy a small amount of new things. A NZXT S340 case (White), a 120GB Intel 530 Series SSD for OS and a couple of games at a time, as well as four blue after-market memory heatsinks, not because they will do much heatsinking, but because these bare A-Data modules that I have will be sticking out like a sore thumb in this beauty otherwise. I may end up painting the latter white, we'll see.

    So here's the preliminary plan:

    Put this

    And this

    Into this

Then I will paint the red parts of the GPU shroud white, add all white sleeved PSU cable extensions and run a blue LED strip along the edges of the case.

Well, that's it for now. I will post updates as I go along.

Update: Day 1 - Waste management and LEDs ^^

So far so good. Now put on your gas masks!

That's it for today. The GPU comes in tomorrow. Painting, sleeving and cable management to follow...

Update: Day 2 - Sleeving and painting

So far so good. Unfortunately, my pesky real job interupted the process yet again. I will pick this up tomorrow and likely finish the build. After that, a load of testing.

    Update: Day 3 - assembly

She's alive. Alive and working. I have yet to do any extensive load testing but everything seems to be operational at the moment.

    Hello again.

Not giving to much away on the case ATM. But it is well under way.

if anyone wants to know how the can it still be opened I'm making it so all the panels can still be removed.

To start the ball rolling here is the Mobo process.
The Mother Board going into the Doom build is the ASUS Sabertooth X99 2011-3
The link can be found here : https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X99/
I think a very cool looking Mobo to start with for the Doom case. and should work well with the theme with it's armor plate cover.

What I like most about this Mobo is all the extra bits that come with it like the PCI-e covers and a plug for every thing plus a fan that can be add to the Mobo for some better cooling that I'm going to be using.

Plus you get 4 ram bank fillers to hide the empty ram slots. as well as 3 thermal sensors that plug into the Mobo.
So to start off I have removed the Armor to get it ready for it to be painted in silver.

Ok here come all the PC goodness so I wont do much more talking as I know most of you will just look at the pretty photo's

    All Silver.

Adding a small amount of yellow. more yellow will be added to the inside of the case later.

Here I also repainted the text onto the hole mobo. to make it all stand out.

For the next photo's I have done a small amount of weathering on the Mobo.

Thanks to Cooler Master and AVEXIR I get to use some sweet looking BLITZ Series AVEXIR Ram. You just have to love how good there ram looks.:D

But I'm still going to mod it just a bit. to work in with the look of the Mobo.
    Black.

    Now silver.

And now even sexier then before.

    Here is the Mobo completed

That it for now, As always thanks for stopping by.
