  1. hey wow - that's a good point mate! Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro WiFi = 1 x system fan header MSI B450M Mortar Max = 3 x 4-pin system fan connectors (also the Gigabyte mobo is $377 in my country, the MSI is $159)
  2. a good point, thank-you Jurrunio - I guess the kit below has the exact same performance as the NEO's mentioned above? G.Skill Ripjaws V F4-3600C16D-16GVKC (2x8GB) DDR4
  3. thanks - thanks... If I just want to run the whole PC stock? I am not an avid overclocker and this will not be my main rig but instead part of a farm for most of it's life. in my country the price difference to go up from the MSI to the Gigabyte is $218...
  4. Hello gang, I am going to build a "budget" 3D productivity PC around a 3700X. I have an older Micro ATX case (that also supports Mini ITX) ready to go. I also have an ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 Ti card ready to drop in. My question is as follows - do I lose any RAM performance going for the MSI B450M Mortar Max over the Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro WiFi ? I would be dropping in 16GB of either: G.Skill Trident Z Neo F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C14D-16GTZR 16GB clearly the MSI board is the winner in terms of price - I am also confident about the MSI mobos VRM - but this is a 3D productivity PC that will be rendering Arnold for hours on end - will the B450 mobo handle the RAM as well as an X570? thoughts much appreciated! Yardy.
  5. hmmm - ok - so am I in trouble then? each intel SSD wants a PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 and the GPU wants the PCIe 3.0 16x looks like I am missing two PCIe 3.0 x4 slots!
  6. Hello gang, I have been planning this one for quite a while. I do a lot of 3D animation and After Effects stuff. Thus the 2 x Intel 750 PCI-Express 400GB SSD (for AFX ?). This is actually going to be a temp PC that I will put into my mATX render farm when the new AMD stuff hits later this year, at which point I will upgrade the mobo, CPU, & Ram... My main 2 questions are: 1 > is this mobo going to support the 3 PCI-e devices happily? 2 > the RAM question - are these G.Skill modules in the sweet spot? - here in AUS it costs an extra $100+ to go up to the F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX sub question - but not a biggie 3 > 2700 or 2700x? ... I'm not crazy about heavy over-clocking - the machine in the farm that is being replaced was over-clocked all it's life and is now very dead. here are the details of the build - AMD Ryzen 7 2700x (with stock cooler) MSI B450M Mortar Titanium Motherboard G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3200Mhz Memory AMD... F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX EVGA - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB SC2 2 x Intel 750 PCI-Express 400GB SSD (1 x scratch, 1 x project files) Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD 250GB (OS) NZXT H500 Mid Tower Case Matte White 3 x be quiet! Silent Wings 3 140mm PWM Fan (2 in front, 1 on roof) 1 X be quiet! Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM Fan (rear) Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum 750W Power Supply any other observations most welcome! cheers and thanks, Yardankerty
  7. Hello gang - I am wondering when these fans will actually be available... the BLACK "Noctua Chromax Edition Fans"... to be clear - these are *not* the black industrialPPC fans but rather they are black versions of the standard models! When I wonder? MORE INFO HERE and HERE (at 12.03 seconds)
  8. A good point M.Yurizaki - but i7-7700 @ 3.6 GHz, i7-7700K @ 4.2 GHz... with the 7700K $10 more at Micro Center Also - Looked at lower wattage PSU but weight is identical at .86kg, so a little future proofing in the decision going for the higher wattage
  9. Over clocking not a priority. Ryzen not an option because Mini-ITX...
  10. Hi all - build is for a nice portable productivity PC (3D animation & rendering). Mild Overclocking of CPU may happen. Build will be happening in LA/USA, need to start later this week. I want it to be light and minimal for travel - with as few components and cables as possible: Ncase M1 (ordered) i7-7700K EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC (Does not require power supply cable! Nice!) Corsair SF600 DARK ROCK TF *or* Noctua NH-D9L SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 500GB ASUS ROG STRIX Z270I GAMING LGA 1151 G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200 Case Fans - Be Quiet! Silent Wings 3 Thoughts and advice appreciated. cheers!
  11. I think I might wait for Ryzen thanks all. So - another question - Could I get away with a cheaper CPU than the i7-6850K (or AMD equivalent) and not feel like my NEW portable PC is slower than my OLD i7-3930K ?
  12. Yes I want to go very small - I am looking at either the NFC S4 mini or Dan cases A4-SFX - I am going to be travelling with this PC internationally so I want it to be small and light.
  13. thanks for the heads up - I wasn't even thinking about non-intel - good to know. As far as intel goes is that i7-6850K going to be my best bet? I find the actual intel site inscrutable, I wonder if I am missing whole swathes of CPU's that would be perfect for my applications...
  14. Hello all, planning a portable (mini ITX) 3D animation and rendering rig and looking at all the new CPU's out there. Currently I am using an older i7-3930K... Looks to me like the best bet for lots of cores and ok price is the Core i7-6850K. If I want to go crazy I could go up to the Core i7-6900K... but that's a bit pricey. Am I missing something here? Are there better CPU's out there for my purposes? - 3D animation and rendering (Arnold mostly) with some light compositing work in After Effects. I'm not much of a gamer so don't worry about that. I do like having 3D graphics grunt when I am moving around large data sets in my 3D animation software - but I am sure a new GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or GeForce GTX 1060 Mini ITX will have me covered for that. cheers!
  15. Hi there, I would like to replace the stock 120mm fan (QF120 BALANCE) on my CRYORIG H7 with something better. By better I mean quieter. I would also really like the new fan to have LED's (my case has a big window). I would also like the new fan to feature PWM as the current fan has that and my mobo supports the 4 pin connector. I was very excited about the Phanteks PH-F120SP LED, but sadly no PWM. The only other guy I can find is the Spectre LED PWM Fan Series from BitFenix. Am I crazy to limit my options to PWM only? There are these details on the mobo website - just to add a little more detail to the mix: "*CPU_FAN1, CHA_FAN1 and CHA_FAN2 can auto detect if 3-pin or 4-pin fan is in use. The CPU Fan Connector supports the CPU fan of maximum 1A (12W) fan power." cheers!
