Hi MavFlight09,
Just some quick info on the copper IHS being stained by the liquid metal TIMs.
As you may know, liquid metal is a mixture of various metals including gallium, tin or bismuth and a few others.
These metals are very friendly with copper and that is one of the reasons why the copper IHS does so well when paired with the liquid metal TIMs.
They are so friendly in fact that they are difficult to remove from the copper!!
So, how to remove the liquid metal from the copper?
We use a technique and chemical that has proven to be pretty effective.
What you'll need:
Arctic Clean "Thermal Material Remover" from the Arctic clean kit or we have a chemical that works better but don't have it for sale yet. (message me and I can send you some)
The gray scrubber pad from Liquid Ultra or Liquid Pro
Alcohol or acetone
Paper towels, coffee filters etc..
The cleaning:
1. Wipe the excess liquid metal from the copper
2. Apply a goodly amount of the Arctic clean or Rockit Cool cleaner to the stained area
3. Gently... use the gray scrubber pad to remove the liquid metal, careful not to scratch the copper. patience is the key. Apply more cleaner as needed. It acts like a lubricant to keep the gray pad from scratching the copper.
4. Clean with alcohol and paper towel. (use a coffee filter for best results)
5. Repeat 3 thru 4 until happy with the results. Generally we get it on the first try.
You may still see some silver stain but it will be minuscule and in our tests, does not effect the heat transfer qualities of the copper.
