Budget (including currency): 500$ CND Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: ARK Survival Evolved, Escape From Tarkov, Monster Hunter World, Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft (modded) Other detail: Cyber Monday otw so looking to upgrade. Just need a new graphics card and some quiet fans I think? Issues: It over heats and screen turns lines locking up. Fans always go full strength for minecraft and gets quite loud. Not sure if a new 500$ PC would be just as good with upgrade options. 2. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/TSOShadow/saved/#view=V6Tpbv Not sure if this is right section. I've essentially got my build already done. Just need to get around to upgrading motherboard and may OS? I doubt I got more then 5-10gbs to backup. More interested in hearing about what OS people suggest. Long time fan of windows 7. But feel like windows 10 might be the new windows 7 for me... Thing is all I know about it is how shit I've heard it is... and that was a couple years back... I've heard nothing lately apart from some of my games are "coming to windows 10" It time to upgrade my OS or stick to my old trusty? I'm power gamer looking for performance mostly.
  3. I bought a new motherboard that I believe only boots uefi... would my windows 7 EFI HD have any problems booting on the new board or will I have to reformat? Switching from Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel B150 Micro ATX to Z270 Prime A. And I rather not have to do another hack job of getting OS installed and functioning properly...
  4. Alright so my Prime-A MOBO came in and I realized my old one has an hybrid of boot types... UEFI and something else... would the new board possibly need my HD formatted to workÉ Still using windows 7 and I recall my 3tb HD is only using 2tb due to the old boot restriction getting in the way of making win7 64bit work I think....
  5. That's the Ideal yes. It's the season to buy/find parts.. and if something doesn't work I'll have money to try again.
  6. Know that great bit where you write a proper detailed post and hit submit only to have it ask for a login and wipe the post? yea... Can, ON, Sudbury https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nW6hFd 500$ limit Gaming PC/Generic home gamer/Potential streamer/VR? Need a new motherboard due to lack of overclocking, a SSD part not functioning (listed) I presume just wrong board support, Win7 64bit patched OS and 3TB HD giving only 2TB... Case fits snug/tight so not sure about getting different dimensions by much more then an inch or so... Graphics card is already butting HD Bays... Open to more modular case suggestions under the limit. On the OS part I guess I'm considering suggestions for a upgrade I guess... As soon as I used windows 7 I've been with it ever since... Never seemed to fail me until now. Not familiar with finding OC compatible MoBo as well as I thought I was. (current board ads suggested it could do it but it's just some dumbed down 'turbo' version) Not sure how to find a MoBo safely compatibile with the rest of my parts. Anyone set me straight?
  7. This was the solution I was searching for my particular board and usb stick... thank you -.-
  8. So I got everything but the SSD HD here and running except now I can't get my USB windows 7 to install? Keep hitting a no drivers found window and none of my drivers are showing up under browse... Youtube is giving me shady home brew videos about plugging it in different ports and creating partitions through console commands, None of it has gotten me past this error so far... EDIT: And the fix can be found here: Beware the motherboard doesn't support usb windows 7 installations very well without another computer to fool around with the memory stick... EDIT 2: Apparently the windows install will entirely ignore usb sticks on the desktop from that point further.. idk how to fix it. EDIT 3: So my only way around my usb stick issue was to disconnect the entire hard drive and hook it into a functioning computer long enough to transfer basic usb software onto it. A new problem has arisen out of the MOBO in that the network cable connection doesn't have any network adapter software provided that works online... I was only able to get the proper networking software out of the provided MOBO disc using explorer in my working computer to pull out the most relevant looking files for my OS...
  9. So I put it back together after cutting my self on the CPU cooler... I guess it accepted my donation of blood because I got it to post! Graphics and everything short of SSD showing up is hooked in and running fine. 35*C CPU temp idle... Now to ever so slightly over clock (hoping to bump to 4.3) and move on to software! Ty for suggestions!
  10. cpu and atx power cables? my motherboard booklet seemed to suggest thats one and the same? And I couldn't find anywhere else to plug my PSU into... dgpu? I haven't put in the graphics card yet if that's what you meant. I've called it a night for now but I'll try playing with the RAM some more tomorrow...
  11. Might remember me from new build planning... So after getting some purchasing advice I went ahead and bought my parts... I got enough parts today to attempt putting the computer together and getting some basics done. like POST. Carefully attempt to snuggle all screws and cables in properly... What is hooked into motherboard was RAM, HDD, CPU(with fan) and it's all powered I presume. Computer fails to post in a quick test... I try 1 ram stick... no post... no ram... no post... unplugged HDD entirely... no post... I was going off this guide and eventually was at the end of the guide... http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems I'm goin over the guide again.... double checked a screw i lost early didn't lodge in the case and feel confident it isn't there... pretty sure I found it later. But i noticed some... scratch marks from the cpu fan stand off screws right over some circuity looking lines... So I figure I post the picture here to confirm if ppl think this damage would prevent a mobo from posting...
  12. Don't mean to necro but I'm pretty well done saving up money and wanted to reassure my self of my selection. Around 2k$ saved.. I did another pass over on my parts list to really try and get ARK to perform at it's best... I am a little concerned that my old keyboard and monitor might be the only bottle necks left... and if I were to wait on buying any parts for cyber monday coming up... would any really go on sale since it's all rather new?... http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/QpLK7h Interested in any last tips for first time buys and builders...
  13. Wow quick replies. Updated parts list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/yrcV7h I like what you did with the storage space...
  14. Purpose: Play ARK: Survival Evolved at best performance Mount new monitor on wall. Keep computer quiet. Future proof within my price range 1000-1500$ Location: Canada Sudbury Parts List so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZbqWbj Should this have enough performance? Can I reduce the cost?
  15. Motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3632#ov Dxdiag: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69984860/DxDiag.txt So I recently tried to upgrade my computer to handle some higher end gaming and screwed up. At some point I thought my motherboard had AM3+ support and seeing the FX-4130 at the bottom with no clear n/a for not supported I presumed it would work with my MOBO. 1 purchase later and a few attempts at powering up I find out I was wrong and screwed up at some point. So I'm kinda stuck with a FX-4130. ( lost the receipt) Would it be better to get a new MOBO to try and take advantage of the FX-4130 I now got or try and sell it back out for CPU my MOBO can support?
