I updated my Asus X99 Deluxe’s Bios today due to an issue with RAM, and after settling it via tech support, they told me to overclock the CPU to 4.2Ghz at 1.35v. for both the CPU Core Voltage and CPU Core Cache Voltage, with a bus speed of 100mhz.
Previously, I was running the 5930k at 4.25Ghz at 1.25v with a 125mhz bus speed.
Later on, after fiddling with the settings, I pushed it to 4.5Ghz but managed to lower the voltage to 1.15v for both the CPU Core Voltage and CPU Core Cache Voltage, with a bus speed of 100mhz. I ran the usual stress tests (including AIDA64) and it seems stable with no core going above 71c at 100%.
I tried 4.6Ghz, but I needed to push voltage to 1.205v for stability, with the highest core temp standing at 75c.
I want to balance performance with stability / longevity, so I’m sticking with the 4.5Ghz. Looking around the web, I saw that people were going over 1.2v for 4.5Ghz on the 5930k – am I doing something wrong or does it really depend on the chip?
