  1. Will try windows system image and see where it gets me. Thanks for the replies.
  2. Yeah, I did consider VM-s but the thing I want to test out is whether the software I use will run smoother on linux and I can't really do that on a VM because obvious reasons.
  3. I intentionously added the PS. I know of dual boot, but it does not soothe my needs. My ssd is 110gb and my windows is 98gb, so yeah... a bit too close for comfort.
  4. Hi all! I have a bit of a situation: I have my SSD and a HDD. My SSD has a copy of windows 10 installed and personalized and I love it. However, I want to try out linux, obviously I want to install it on my SSD because understandable reasons. Also because of understandable reasons, I want to backup my windows installation to be able to revert to it if I find it necessary down the road. So, what software do I use to take a backup of my C and be able to restore my bootable windows as if nothing had ever happened if I need to? The windows is installed under Legacy MBR. Please excuse me if this is a duplicate topic, I did some digging, but could not find anything to soothe my needs. Thanks in advance! Cheers! PS: I don't really fancy having both installed at the same time for a number of reasons, the most significant being that my windows is rather big with a lot of software installed and that would leave a bit too little free space for me to use my computer comfortably.
  5. Using windows 10 pro edition. I have set up 2 languages: - Bulgarian: with one layout "traditional phonetic" - English (Australia) with also one layout "USA, qwerty" And what I get in the taskbar is this: http://prntscr.com/enwlml This "БГР USA" cannot be seen in windows 10 settings menu, nor in control panel. The only place it can be seen is in the taskbar. Please help me figure out where it's coming from and to get rid of it. Thanks!
  6. A bit of background: I was working in my htdocs folder, building websites. So what happened is I was in: "htdocs/project1/randomsubfolder" and pressed ctrl+z in file explorer, that resulted in the undo of changes I had done the previous day in the folder "htdocs/project2/" So I ended up infuriated with 2 days of work from the folder "htdocs/project2/" gone. Woosh! Questions: - How do I make the windows explorer undo feature request permission to delete and/or modify files. - I want some advice on software (preferably free) that will keep a changelog of that folder for me. So next time something similar happens I can just check the changelog and return a given file to a point I prefer.
  7. I intend to try that first thing tomorrow, and am also rather irritated by the network and want to just redo it myself SOOO bad... But it's a rather large one and is ran through walls and such, so no one knows what is really going on... Would take a few days to just figure out which cable goes where - let alone properly rewiring the whole thing. What makes me sad though is the fact that I, as a student (currently 11 grade), have a greater practical knowledge than the person who is supposed to be teaching me...
  8. Will do, thanks for the help! Appreciate it!
  9. That teacher is the school IT department and he has basic theoretical knowledge of networking. So the school network is an absolute mess - and now this... I could not stand it anymore. The new router is for my class room so I don't want IP conflicts and such on the network I am going to be using.
  10. Because he is a tech retard and will mess up the entire network, the router he got is for my classroom, so I benefit from having it properly configured. I want it to be a seporate lan from the already existent networking because the school network is a complete mess - computers with matching IP's, improperly used routers&switches and so on and so on. And ofc I want wifi in my class room - another reason to use a router instead of a switch. But by what I read, this one is just not going to make it.
  11. What we've got is an RJ-45 cable with internet on it (not sure where it's coming from because as I said it's at school so I am rather unfamiliar with the networking). I beleive it comes from another router that is somewhere prior in the network. As far as the model goes, it's currently saturday so I can't check right away, but I believe it's a DSL-N12E, by ASUS.
  12. Hi all! Straight to the point: In school we have internet on an RJ-45 connector. My IT teacher is a bit disorganised so he ordered two adsl routers (6-pin plug, with 1 and 6 unused). My question is how do I make things work? Someone please explain if those standards are compatible with eachother and if yes, then can you provide a pinout of both connectors so I can rewire things to work. Thanks in advance!
  13. It's not OS, it's just some data that I want to migrate to a hdd, while keeping the file system(UDF) and the exact way the data is stored. I want to basically clone the CD to the partition on the hdd. Literally clone
  14. Hi all! Situation is following: I have a DVD disk. I used nero to extract an image (NRG) file of that disk. I have an empty partition on my hard drive How do I mount that NRG file to the empty partition as if I was recording it to another DVD. PS: I have no idea if the word mount is the correct one I should be using, you're going to have to forgive me on that one.
  15. Yeah, I did do a factory reset in the end, didn't really want to come to that, but it fixed the problem. My curiosity is still bugging me tho... I have no idea what he could have done to make this exact error pop up. Corrupt or missing config file sounds like the best explanation so far.
