I'm sorry I did not want to be condescending. Maybe I was just lucky with the connectors I got. I'm really sorry if my message was condescending to anyone, it wasn't on purpose. -

Sorry. Perhaps this picture of a kitten makes up for this -
newbie Very First PC Build ($500 max)
Dr.Fr4nk3n5731n replied to MOK8's topic in New Builds and Planning
He could also take an AMD FX6300 into consideration which would save a few bucks. And there is always the bonus of an heater embedded into you PC so it won't get cold in the winter. And yeah the 6 cores I guess.- 20 replies

I personally do prefer Cat6 over Cat5e on my local 1GBit Network -

Dr.Fr4nk3n5731n replied to Cyberspirit's topic in Networking
Those Cables are called Cat Cables which use the RJ45 Connector. Those are the specs of the cables: Cat5: 100Mbit Cat5e: 1Gbit Cat6: 1Gbit Cat6a: 10Gbit Cat7: 10Gbit they also have different max lenghts but I don't know them right now also UTP means Unshielded (Your power cables might cause interference) STP Means your pairs are shielded FTP Means Foil shield which means you've got a shield around the whole cable but not the pairs SFTP means both STP and FTP -
A pre built NAS would probably be fine. But you are way more felxible with a custom built one. Resons for pre built: easy setup no need to setup up the whole system with an OS and so on proably easy configuration Reasons for custom built: upgradebility/expandebility Custom Stuff like Filesystem RAID (which is the best option (Btrfs, ZFS)) you get regular updates (security, features, bugfixes, and so on) You aren't limited to what the manufacturer of the NAS let's you use featurewise I hope this was helpful to you.

Is the 1600 even X370? I thought it only has the B350 Chipset. I'd like to be corrected if I'm wrong. -
How to try out Linux on Laptop?
Dr.Fr4nk3n5731n replied to TheEndIsNear's topic in Operating Systems
just do it then. Purge Windows from your Harddrive. Take the first step to get your freedom and privacy back. But you should backup your data if you want to go back to Windows. Also for many Windows Appilcations it's just fine to run them in a little VM. Something like 2 GiB RAM and 1 CPU core. This excludes stuff like Photoshop or demanding Games, but for instance M$ Office works just fine. -
Small yet fancy Python Logging Modul as an alternativ to "logging", I hope it's somewhat usefull to some of you https://github.com/guenniman/PythonLogger

Ubuntu on USB
Dr.Fr4nk3n5731n replied to TheGhzGuy's topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
What's you current situation on the PC you want to use to download Puppy Linux? If it's a Windows 8(,1) or 10 it will mount the ISO and see it like an ordinary disk drive. you could just try to copy everything from the "disk" onto your thumbdrive. Also I would recomend Linux Mint XFCE or Lubuntu/Xubuntu since they are small and user friendly. Also you should probably use ext2 as Filesystem on a thumbdrive and move the /tmp partition into the RAM. Oh and turning swap off might increase the lifespan of the Stick as well, but this depends on your needs and how much RAM you use. I hope this comment was helpfull.
