I really like the sleeved tubing,  I can already tell how clean this rig will be from the nice cable management and short straight-ish tubing runs.

I love your builds because your attention to detail is amazing from the sleeving to the angled fittings on your loop if I where to change one thing thougt the powersupply draws my eye because it dosent match the rest of the build so you could paint that or remove the sticker but I like your taste it is hard to beat a system full of ASUS and Corsair hardware

    Hello everyone,

I'm doing a few esthetic upgrades to my rig and wanted to share. This is the first rig I ever built about a year ago.

    Raw specs:
    MB: Asus Sabertooth Z77
    CPU: 3770k @ 4.3 GHz
GPU: ASUS Direct CUII GTX 660 ti SLI
    Cooler: H60
RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance (1600 MHz 9-9-9-24 if I recall correctly)
PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750 Watt

The first thing I wanted to do was sleeve my PSU properly instead of the crappy standard sleeving. I didn't do everything but I did do the main visible cables: 24 pin, CPU 8 pin and all 6 pin connectors.

I'll watercool later on and probably update the thread.

This is how my rig started out:

And this is the package I received from MDPC

The 24 pin connector had a few double cables so I fixed those by cutting them and soldering a few pieces together

    And applying lots of heatshrink

And this is the finished result

Thanks for watching, I have more pictures if people would like to see a few more
    Hope you enjoyed

I told him he should get that too but he doesn't want it. So it's his choice. I was more wondering about the rest of the build besides storage though thanks

His old one dies so it's not really an option but thanks. But the presumed 9970 will be more expensive than the 7970 is now right? With the budget he gave me, I was thinking around 400 euros for the graphics card.

    cool cheers for the tip

He doesn't want storage. I told him to get a drive too. And I haven't decided exactly which 7970 yet. I was thinking off getting the highest overclocked one if it wasn't too expensive idd

I actually haven't considered that, I'll look into it. Sounds interesting and cheap atleast!

It is a breeze to work in that case. Although It was a bit tight in the bottom for me, but that's because of all the hard drives.

And here are a few more pictures:

Glory shot of the fan in the back

And glory shots of the graphics card. I do like the looks of that ASUS cooler and PCB

24-pin right after finishing it. I did redo that left heatshrink. It was way too short for my OCD :P

Cables mess in the back before cleaning it up

Cable mess cleaned up to the best of my abilites, didn't use too many zip ties just yet because I still plan on messing around with it. I know there's room for improvement here :P

The theme of my build was black and red and the white power and hdd led in the case bothered me a little so I decided to change this aswell (sorry low quality pics, had to use my phone for these)

    The result

    And the work in progress

Add a bit of heatshrink around the solder and that's how it looks.

And this is the whole setup all together with the Corsair K70. Damn that keyboard is gorgeous

    Thanks for viewing!

I have not used the MS-3 but I own a corsair M65. I have very small hands (like linus-small) and I palm it as I have done with my G5 for years. Fits very nicely in your hand although on the right side there's a sharp little corner that can be a little annoying. But I don't feel it anymore now. You should hold the mouse in your hand if you can before purchasing. The M65 might be a bit small if you want to palm.

Yeah I understand, here in Belgium I have the same problem for keyboards and mice. Maybe you can see if one of your friends owns one? That's how I tested my M65

Mooru got a reaction from MichalCZE97 in 3pin vs 4pin pwm for CPU
A 3 pin header controls the fan speed using a constant voltage. This has one big disadvantage. Most fans need a minimum voltage to start spinning. Let's take as an example 5V. If you want your fans to spin really slowly and you set them on the lowest setting it is possible they'll receiver a lower voltage, and won't even start spinning (especially true with a fan speed reducer, tried this with some crappy noisy fans in an attempt to make them quite).

A 4 pin header uses PWM to control the fan. This kind of controller will send a pulse of 12 volts to the fan and afterwards turns the output to 0 volts again. This means that the fan will start spinning due the maximum volts applied. But while the voltage is 0, the inertia of the fan will keep it spinning for a while. To increase fan speed, longer pulses will be applied and the 0 volts won't last so long. In general this method can give much better control results and lower rpms. Life span of these kind of fans could be lower, but in todays world with quality components this is hardly an issue anymore.

I hope my technical rant is a bit understandable.
PWM is alot easier to understand with a drawing.
    Google is your friend :)

Mooru got a reaction from therealrealisback in Razer's CEO on the decline of PC
But is the market really killing itself? I think you have to look at it from a perspective.

The market is shifting to portability. So PC makers don't really make PC's anymore, but they make portable things, like tablets.
That's also why Haswell for example isn't a huge leap in performance, but it is in power savings. So we get longer battery lives.

This is a shame for many enthousiasts that are on this forum. But enthousiasts are only a small percent of the market. Most people want portable devices with long battery lives and don't need the most beast laptop out there. They want something they can do text processing on the go with and things like that. And for things like web browsing and even basic professional applications, there's no desire for more processing power.

I'm personally a gamer and have a pretty decent desktop pc for that. But for work I wanted a laptop that was small, light, long battery life, decent screen, quick wake up from sleep and high build quality so I got a MacBook Pro (I can feel the Apple hate already coming). And I am actually very happy with it. This desire for portability is imho what caused intel to create the ultrabook label. Because that's what consumers want and need these days.

Desktop PC's are probably not going anywhere as been said many times before (by Linus too). But they are probably not gonna be the main target for hardmakers. Even regular laptops are starting to become too bulky for most people since tablets became popular.

I personally don't think there's much we can do about it so I say embrace the future and make the best out of it. And pray that there will still be awesome high end hardware for the enthousiast. I would like to see some really innovative things happening with laptops and desktops though. It would be awesome, unfortunately, I don't think the big companies will do that as currently the profit is with portable products.

This is just my opinion and I'm quite curious to other opinions actually
