Yeah, that seems reasonable. Unfortunately there aren't much options here. I guess I'll wait it out and see if my stores get the better PSUs. You wont find gray Corsair CSM/CSX units here. sadface

Just to restate what I said:
Anything from tiers 1 to 3. Doesn't have to be tier 1 to power a gaming build, you know, and the PSUs in tier 3 are usually cheaper.

How powerful? Because there's not a ton you can do under $1k.  And please for the love of god do not get a Lenovo.  I swear the Y series is designed to fail once the warranty expires.

    You're welcome, happy to help.

Re: video editing/blender - If you plan to do that, by all means, do not bother with the i5, go straight to the i7.  It was made for that stuff.  I have an i7 in my machine for just that reason (and it isn't for gaming!).  I film, edit, and render in 4k, the cost for the i7 is trivial compared to the time it saves.

The i7-4790k is, more or less, about the same speed as the i7-6700k.  The differences are very marginal and if you overclock both to 4.5GHz, they are trivial.  That being said, the Z170 chipset does have some nice features over the Z97 chipset, in the long run those may be worth getting.  The real benefit to Skylake over Haswell Refresh is the platform (motherboard), not the chip itself in my opinion.  DMI links and all that.

As for the DDR4 speed, it likely doesn't matter for gaming, I have yet to do any testing on DDR4 for that.  In DDR3, the differences for gaming between 1600 and 2400 were not worth bothering about, but for video work, there is a difference.  The thing is, prices have been dropping, DDR4-3000 is not much more expensive than 2133 these days, so why not?  $80 for 3000 vs $65 for DDR4-2133, for that difference, I think take the 3000, at least if you're buying a K series chip.

I do have a i5-6500 non-k chip in a ASUS H170 D3 Plus board that has DDR3-1600 in it, and frankly, it rocks along just fine with games (it is my son's machine, it has a R9 280 in it on a 1440p monitor, plays everything fine, mostly Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: The Old Republic).
