  1. Hey everyone. We currently have an Intel 6th gen, GTX 1060 PC hooked up to our TV. We use it for a multiple of purposes, and I would like to spend some deliberate time improving the setup Budget (including currency): 8-15k SEK Country: Sweden Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: It has many jobs aside from being primarily a gaming PC: Gaming: Both locally installed and streaming from my more powerful personal desktop. Hooked up to a 4k TV @ 120fps. Although it doesn't need to be powerful, as if the PC runs out of juice, I will just stream it from my desktop PC Plex Perforce: I am a game developer, so I have a perforce server for all of my projects NAS: We have a few networked drives, but we rarely use it, which is what I wanted to change. I wanted to get a more serious with our file storage, and move our local files to a NAS, as well as just clean up our setup that we have right now. I want to upgrade and give it a refresh, set things up properly and spend some deliberate effort improving what we already have. Also as I said above, improving our NAS setup is important as it would be nice to move all of our local storage onto the NAS. We don't even necessarily have to buy any new tech, although it would be nice to give it an upgrade so we don't have to lean on streaming so much, and can play more games locally From here, I have a plethora of options, and honestly I am just overwhelmed with what to go with. I would love some advice, perspectives and suggestions on what could be a nice setup. My first thought was keeping the PC as one unit, and upgrading it. All of the servers (perforce, plex, and anything else) can still run on the machine which is no problem. The problem becomes setting up the storage, Next thought is separating the NAS from the PC. Having a small NAS machine purely for storage. The servers on the gaming PC could still point towards mapped drives. I don't however know if its a bad choice to have plex reading from network drives, rather than from storage local to the plex server. Then there is the software considerations. UNRAID, FreeNAS, Windows 10? etc. I would love some help before my head explodes. Thank you
  2. Yea I get that, wanted something solid that I could trust with a 24/7 machine. I would drop it if the gain didn't seem worth it. I'll take a look at the XFX. Thanks
  3. Yea - I'll probably just go with it, but wanted to make sure as I got a negative POV from that part.
  4. Hey guys, I was planning on getting the RM450, but was told to steer clear. I was given an alternative, but more opinions is not a bad thing. Here is my build (for now): No GPU, just a CPU plex/storage PC. What PSU would you advise for this system? Will eventually add 2 more HDDs, probably reds as well. Thanks a lot Clampy
  5. Cheers buddy I'll take a look, for sure! Have a good evening.
  6. Yea correct - no graphics cards, just using the APU. Can you get those boards in a mATX? Looking for a small form factor (mATX or mITX for the Air 240). Looking myself as well of course EDIT: I found 4 from ASUS B150M-C B150M-PLUS B150M-K B150M-D I'm gonna look into them - thanks a lot
  7. I have had incredibly good experiences with Corsair parts, so I am a bit biased in this regard. Anything specific you think would be better?
  8. It was actually recommended that I use a gaming board as a good compromise for price per quality (on reddit). It would be amazing if you could give me some recommendations. It will basically sit on a shelf and run plex (local and moderately outside - so some transcoding). It will also be used to store data (I expect to expand the hard drives to 3 x WD Reds - which will then be backed up onto a NAS). The main focus is Plex though, and something that will last.
  9. Ah christ - that's right. Sorry, correct - I got mixed up. Leaning much more to the non T versions then - heat will be a non-issue.
  10. Hey guys, We're looking to buy a media/storage PC, and originally were planning on getting the i3 6300T (35W TDP). I did some maths, which leans highly towards the non "low TDP" versions. Here is the chart: So basically, how important is low TDP for server machines (24/7). Does it mean it will draw 85% more, whatever you are doing? Or is it just a limitation on the CPU so it cannot draw more than that. If you do the same task on a 6400T & 6400, will they draw similar wattage? Or will the 6400T be a lot more efficient. 8.5% increase cost for a 50% improvement seems like an easy choice (even the entry i5 is 30% for 4% extra). Wondering what you guys think Any input on my build is appreciated as well (but not necessary) Thanks a lot, Clampy
