  1. Appreciate all the responses, looks like the 7600X and AM5 is the clear winner.
  2. Appreciate the response, can I ask what GPU you are using and whether you think these level of CPU will be a good pairing with my 3080Ti or should I go for something beefier? I also noticed the heat when I did a 5800X (non 3D) build for a friend, it was the first AMD build I had done after numerous intel builds and I couldn't believe the temps I was seeing just from it installing Windows. That said, doesn't AM5 also run very hot?
  3. Ever since picking up my 3080Ti a couple years ago I have been CPU bottlenecked but haven't had the right time to upgrade it. I'm finally at that stage, but the options available to me are both attractive and I'm hoping I can get some other input to help push me one way or the other. My current system specs are: i7 8700K RTX 3080Ti FE 2x 16GB 2400MHz Vengeance DDR4 Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 My monitor spec is 3840 x 1200, 120Hz. I know this is an awkward res, it's a Samsung super ultrawide. Performance wise, I've found my performance is actually comparable to when I run at 4k, even though it's like half the pixel count. I think the extra FOV and render area is what kills performance as my res is the equivalent of pushing two 1920x1200 monitors. I won't be changing GPU, but I do need to change my motherboard, CPU and RAM, due to socket compatibility and because my current RAM is just too slow for current standards. So the decision now is what CPU and platform to go with. I am stuck between the 5800X3D and the 7600X. I did originally look into the 7800X3D but the cost difference vs the 5800X3D was just too big to justify. Both of these are a similar cost, the 7600X is slightly more expensive. Both of them trade blows in performance with obviously the 5800X3D taking the crown in games that use the cache, the 7600X takes the crown in pretty much everything else though, probably because of higher single thread performance. I know Flight Simulator benefits a lot from the cache which I do play from time to time, but mostly I play games like Forza or 3rd person open world games like GTA, cyberpunk, watch dogs or Hogwarts legacy. I occasionally play call of duty, but not war zone or any other battle royals. In terms of performance and my expectation, I tend to push graphics over frame rate so long as I'm keeping over 60fps, unless its a shooter or something, then I will try and push for more frames. The 5800X3D system would be: 5800X3D - £310 Asus ROG Strix B550-A Gaming - £140 2x 16GB 3600MHz Vengeance RGB Pro SL DDR4 - £90 Total - £540 The 7600X system would be: 7600X - £240 MSI MPG B650 Edge - £250 2x 16GB 5600MHz Vengeance RGB DDR5 - £120 Total - £610 Whilst it costs £70 more for the 7600X, my thought process is that I won't have to spend as much if I want a CPU upgrade down the line. I'll already have the platform (provided AMD don't change it) and the RAM I need for a drop in replacement. With the 5800X3D, I might save now, but a future CPU upgrade would end up costing me a new motherboard and RAM in addition to the CPU, and I don't think I'm going to be able to make that happen in the £70 cost saving I'll be making right now. Even with prices dropping over time, I'll just about be able to get the RAM for £70 at that stage, it'll still probably cost me an extra at least £150 for a decent motherboard. I do worry about the longevity of a 6 core CPU. I don't know if it is something I should be worrying about right now, but that is a concern for the 7600X. What would you do if you were in my position? AM I even looking at the right class of CPUs here or should I be looking for something beefier?
  4. So for some reason since yesterday, any game I play has this weird issue where it just randomly drops to 1fps. If i alt tab or press the windows key, the game runs like normal again whilst the game window is out of focus. If im lucky, when i switch back to the game, it will continue to work for a while, but in some instances they instantly drop from 120fps to 1fps as soon as I click the game window to bring it back in focus. It is making no sense to me as you'd think when the game window is in focus, it would be running at full performance, but it is doing the opposite for me and running fluid when I have the game out of focus. I decided to pull up afterburner to see what my gpu and cpu are doing, and it turns out they just randomly stop doing anything for the game when I drop to 1fps, but I dont know why they just randomly stop doing any work for the game out of nowhere and why they suddenly start to work again the second I open up another window in front of it or something. The below is an example of my cpu and gpu utilisation in cyberpunk when it does this random drop. My gpu is at 1% and ,y cpu is at 25%. Normally they are both sat at around 80% minimum when the game is actually running properly. So far, I have tried closing down all the background programs I have open 1 by 1 to see if any of them are causing the issue, but none seem to be. I have also tried using only 1 stick of ram and testing all 3 of my sticks individually, but I am not having any luck. I'm stumped. Specs: i7 8700K, RTX 2080, 24GB DDR4 2400MHz I'd like to add this was working absolutely fine a few days ago. I took a couple days away from my pc, turned it on yesterday to play some games and this is the issue I am now having this issue with Cyberpunk 2077 (GOG), Cold War (Blizzard), Man of Medan (PC Game Pass) and Forza Horizon 4 (Windows Store).
  5. Ok so im after a new gpu and I was most likely going to be going with a 1080ti. However, seeing as the 2080 is pretty on par with the 2080 I am now considering that, just because if dlss is actually supported well it could be a game changer and also im a sucker for good graphics so I wouldn't mind ray tracing. The only thing I dont know is about if the VRAM will be enough as thats one area where the 1080ti is superior. I am currently using an rx470 4GB and I dont run anything above 1080p (as the card cant handle it) and im generally ok in terms of ram utilisation. GTAV is the only game I can think of I managed to top out the ram with upping some settings. However, I am planning on doing some 4k gaming or at the very least 1440p. Will 8 GB VRAM be enough for 4k gaming at as high settings as the card allows me to? I dont want to hit a ram limit as if its an issue right now, it will defintiely be an issue in the future as games get bigger and more demanding, and I want this card to last me 4 years at least. Am I better off going for the 1080ti for the higher RAM or do you think I'd be ok with the 2080 for the next few years? I dont really play any competitive easier to run games like csgo or LoL, I pretty much only play AAA titles and racing games.
  6. Will I be better off only using 2 of the 8 GB sticks or shall I use all 3? Will I affect performance negatively by having the third in there? Its actually how ive been running my current PC for two years so I hope not...
  7. Ok so I have just acquired a new pc as a gift and im planning on making it my gaming pc. However, my RAM situation is quite confusing and I need some advice. My builds are as follows Current Gaming PC - i5 6600k - 24GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400 MHz (3 x 8GB) - RX470 GPU New PC - i7 8700k - 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400MHz (1 x 16GB) - No Dedicated GPU So basically at the moment I use my PC for two things; Gaming and running my plex server. I currently have to leave my PC running 24/7 in order to run my media server and have it accessible all the time, but id rather not be doing that as its quite power hungry. Im planning on making the new rig my gaming PC as the processor is better and using my current rig as a plex media server/general household computer. I'll probably just swap over the current GPU for now in to the new pc. I know its a major bottleneck for the rig, but im waiting to see how the RTX2070 benchmarks against a 1080ti before I upgrade. After that I'll probably just put the RX270 back in the media server. Both motherboards are full ATX size so they have 4 RAM slots each, but I was planning on getting a new Mini ITX board for the media center as I want something thats going to be small and discreet. This of course means im only going to have 2 ram slots in that build but I currently have 3 sticks. I want to have a decent amount of ram in the computer as I am going to be using it as a media server so it needs enough resourses to transcode. Do I: A) Put the 16GB stick in the media server and put the 3 8GB sticks in the new PC B) Put 2 x 8GB sticks in the media server and 1 16GB and 1 8GB in the new PC Performance wise, would I have any major performance issues running 1 16GB stick and 1 8GB stick, or would I be better off running 3 8 GB sticks?
  8. Best projector I've seen yet. With it being able to just sit on the floor and project a huge screen from less than a foot away, I am definitely interested. Havent seen the price yet but I bet it'll make me cry ???
  9. Damn I've had this issue since I built my pc in December last year. Do you know what causes it by any chance so I can avoid it in the future? Il probably do a clean install this weekend now
  10. This worked great. Thanks for the assistance good sir. Hmm... Ive been looking for a name to put to the issue... Ive been planning on a reinstall for a while now as I had a feeling that would fix the issue but was going to wait to get my m.2 drive before clean installing. Maybe I'll just do it now anyway. Anyway, thanks for the info.
  11. Would you be able to give me instructions on this? Cant seem to find the right information with google. I dont like having it on 24/7 as I have an issue with my RAM usage going to stupid amounts of usage even when I am not doing anything (16 out of 24GB being used). Rebooting my system seems to be the only way to get my RAM clear again. Even if I only restarted once a week I would be happy, as the RAM issue seems to occur after a few days of my system being on.
  12. The pin would still require me to enter text which isnt what I want. The YubiKey could work however. If I left it plugged in to my PC and restarted my computer, would it sign in automatically, or would I still need to perform the first logon manually?
  13. Hi, So was just wondering if there was a way within Windows for my system to not require my login password during a certain time frame ONLY. I need to be able to have a 10 minute window or so where my computer is able to restart and load up my desktop in order to start all the programs and servers that I have configured to work at startup. I would like all of this to take place whilst I am asleep ideally so that the PC is available to use and my media server is accessible without me needing to touch my computer. I already have the restart bit figured out through Eventghost, so the password issue is the only thing stopping me from moving forward. In short, I want my PC to not require my password for a 10 minute window of my choosing. Settings within windows 10 Pro are preferred, but I am willing to download a trusted 3rd party app if it is required. Thanks
  14. I have no OC on the CPU. Ive tried all of what you asked and still no luck.
  15. I tried all ram on every slot individually. I bought the first 8 gb stick when i first built my system in december last year, and bought the 2nd and 3rd in a pack of two last month. The 1st stick is black and the 2nd and 3rd are red so I think the model numbers will be different , but the two reds will probably be the same model. All sticks came from Amazon if that means anything.
