Joe Brainer reacted to Fasauceome in Finally upgraded to a 30 series GPU but they only have DP or HDMI. My monitor is DVI. I'm confused about DisplayPort and Active DisplayPort adapters.
For only 60Hz, you don't need an active adapter. Any cheap HDMI to DVI adapter can manage 1080p60. It's for 144Hz that it becomes important.

Well you can connect it with lan.
1TB would need 2 hours 13 minutes 20 seconds to transfer with gigabit connection.
Transfer the files and watch a movie.

Joe Brainer reacted to Bombastinator in Adding files to recently wiped and reinstalled laptop hard drive(win10). Doesn't matter where I put them, everything ends up deleted.
    To ruminate on this:
This reminds me a bit of those counterfeit SD cards where they had a card with a really small size that was marked as a really large one.  You could transfer data to it as if it was a larger card but it would just loop.  The data effectively being dev nulled.

with a HDD data isn’t actually deleted till it is overwritten. the file allocation table is merely marked as having data that was deleted.  You could have a problem in that area.  No idea how to fix it personally.  Hopefully someone else will have better ideas than me.

Joe Brainer reacted to Dedayog in Can anyone ballpark a prediction of price drops to current gen GPU's when Nvidia and AMD's new GPU's come out?
Sure, look at previous gen releases and their effect on the pricing of the gen before them.

All we have is the past to predict the future, information is free for all to peruse.  pcpartpicker even has price tracking for you.

I've used something called block this which works pretty well, and it doesn't require root. It routes traffic through a VPN on your device to the app so that I can filter the traffic. The downside though is that you then can't use a vpn at the same time. Also, it doesn't work on YouTube ads but it blocks website ads quite well.

If you're willing to give Firefox a try, they allow using extensions, so you could add ublock origin to it.

    I use block this

Doesn't need root access either. Uses android's VPN mode.

Just install the APK (Google removed it from the app store lol) and enable it, easy as that.

Edit: DocSwag you heck, beat me to it

My problem on the free desktop version is not malicious ads, my problem is I get condom ads! Like I don't want to listen to a guy on my Bluetooth speaker during a party talking about how condoms can keep you safe from STD's. I am not lying or BS'ing this, Spotify really does give me ads like that.

Spotifad would inject ads into your brain while you're on your deathbed to make an extra buck. We need laws on Advertisements because they're getting out of hand. We also need advertisement profiles without utilization of cookies and such so ads are more personalized to your searches.

I don't mind ads I'm interested in, but Spotifad is the king of raping your ears with the most annoying, ear shattering, and unrelated ads out there. "What's this? You're enjoying some System of a Down? Oh, how about a Digsters top love songs playlist!" "What's this? You're smashing your head through the wall to some Slayer? How about a Don't shake your baby ad, with a baby squalling in the background for 30 seconds straight!"

-Sorry for the screwy font, I Ctrl + V'ed on the wrong tab and it took the font aaand now I can't fix it.

It's a hate group that needs to be treated as what it is. Sure some people that join it mean well, but the majority is ruining it. For example, the people saying "AllLivesMatter" is racist. They're part of the problem in this age. All lives matter, aside from pedophiles, murderers, and rapists.

Enable frametime (if its not enabled by default allready, not sure) and just check the graphs when playing ,or setup an OSD overlay, or create a log file...
For 40FPS I'd say 20-25ms frametime should be normal.
60FPS with vsync would be 16-17ms frametime

Joe Brainer reacted to Lotus in Should I replace my new GPUs *Thermal Compound that was sealed in box but sitting in dry storage for 2 years?
If it does what you need it to do, you should be fine. The only reason to spend money would be if a need isn't being met. It's not like you can return it and get your money back after two years.

Those, although generally accurate, don't count for PSU efficiency and other stuff plugged into the socket that cause interference and all that. Realistically you were using like 80W less than labeled by the readout (PSU efficiency) and your PSU was dying earlier than you though. A 780 might get you to 450W with some hefty overclocking which would make sense with efficiency of your PSU calculated in there.
