NTDaws got a reaction from dean_5234 in How come there is no DIY Laptop?
Yeah but desktops are a breeze to build, cooling would be a huge factor in a custom laptop. And even today they aren't "great" for cooling.

NTDaws reacted to Deslumo in LTT Hard Drive Shirt Spells Out "Linus Tech Tips" in Binary
No idea if anyone else has already had the time or the interest in doing this. Anyways, I'll just post it here in the hopes that anyone who hasn't seen this before is fascinated. I was actually just taking a dump when I noticed this.
Look at the Hard Drive Shirt. You'll notice a that there's Torx-esque stars that seem to be leaving a trail of dots and dashes.
There's a total of three separate 8-bit sequences of dots and dashes. Two sequences are of length 15, and the remaining one is of length 3.
I translated this into binary. Each dot represents a "0" and each dash represents a "1".
Long 8-bit Sequence of Length 15:
01001100 01101001 01101110 01110101 01110011 00100000 01010100 01100101 01100011 01101000 00100000 01010100 01101001 01110000 01110011
Short 8-bit Sequence of Length 3
01001100 01010100 01010100
The long sequence translates to "Linus Tech Tips"
The short sequence translates to "LTT"
This is some great attention to detail done by the merch team, and certainly the most clever thing T-Shirt design I've ever seen. I wonder what other easter eggs are hidden in the merch.

NTDaws reacted to manikyath in Is my switch failing?
that may as well be an issue on the speedtest server's side, in the 300 range is a really common speed to hit a 'bottleneck' on.
as for the lifespan of an unmanaged switch.. they last until they die. as long as you're not seeing lost packets they can be assumed good.

NTDaws reacted to GDRRiley in Can I just rag on CompTIA for a minute?
While I'm not a recruiter I know California state government will accept ether relevant certs or a degree.
certs is a good way to not go to college and get your foot into the door of many companies but you are going to want a degree to climb the rung. I've got at least 1 family member who can't move up any more at EA because he lacks a bachelors degree
and thats why I'm an IT degree. I wouldn't recommended my school for it till they replace 2 of the most dumb class requirements. needing discrete math to start basic IT classes and assembly programing, which I'm sure was put in because we spent 2-3 weeks talking about hardware.

Most laptops have a power savings feature to shut down drives that aren't in use. I recommend replacing the drive and disabling the feature.

NTDaws got a reaction from Mista Alff in Will HP Z420 upgrade with Ryzen 5 work?
No this is not possible at all. Intel and AMD are two different platforms and sockets. You would need to build a whole separate computer.
-
NTDaws reacted to tishous in Ryzen or Intel CPU's
Right now, I would say the 10600k is the best 'bang for the buck' CPU for mid range builds. You can find it for around $220 and you get performance almost the same as the 5600x, a $300 CPU. That is, a $300 CPU if you can find it in stock AND for MSRP.
It used to be that Ryzen was the best bang for the buck, seeing as you usually got more cores for the same price, and productivity was a lot better than Intel, but you had worse gaming performance. It's kind of the opposite now, except AMD are the best in everything and their price premiums are a result of that.

NTDaws reacted to Stahlmann in Is Nvidia going to announce a GTX 1700 series any time soon?
As there are already RTX 3050's popping up i don't think the GTX series will be continued. Imo that's a good thing because then stuff like DLSS also gets to the budget cards.

NTDaws reacted to p51mustang23 in Looking for a new Keyboard
If you go with blue switches, the general consensus is that you 100% want cherry blues. For brown switches, it's more up to personal preference what brand switches are best.
I have an RK Royal Kludge brown key keyboard. It lacks a numberpad, which you may not like. However it has both a wired and wireless mode, meaning when wired by USB C you get the latency of a wired keyboard, but you still have the option of going wireless. It also has decent RGB, which can be turned off when you go wireless.
It's not a known brand, but I've found it to be a pretty impressive set of features for the 50-60$ price point.
Read through reviews, and there are some other gems like this one to be found.

NTDaws reacted to kelvinhall05 in Looking for a new Keyboard
They're quite good if you insist on something wireless. Keep in mind their metal boards are just a metal frame around the sides, not a full metal case. It's mostly plastic lol.

Isn't Shenmue 3 like... terribad though? I'm remembering watching some reviews and the end result was that the entire game is just a waste of time and doesn't actually progress the story of anything.
