I'm not sure if this if fake but tell em if it is

- Selling my old PC for $550

- Guy on Facebook texts me and is interested, he lives in British Columbia and want a mover to pick it up.

- Sends me a cheque for $1750 and I am to deduct for what I give to this mover. Waiting for the cheque to clear.

-Today he asks me to get a $100 steam gift card for his mover as a favor, even though the cheque hasn't cleared.

Should I do this or should I wait, I don't know if he's trying to scam me or trick me in a way.

I don't see the scam yet but it sounds fishy as hell.

Kinda sounds like a typical scam.

Why would he make you give the "mover" a steam gift card? Why not do it himself?

Absolutely a scam, why is it not being a scam even an option? Don't try to cash in that check, they usually somehow do a chargeback, and then bank removes 1750 from your account and gives it to the scammers or something.

Other option is that the check is just fake.

Whatever you do, keep in mind that you are being scammed, don't give them money in any way, especially in a gift card form? NO.

If you already gave the bank that check, I suggest informating them that you might've been scammed before something happens.

Oh, i remember one more variant.

The check clears, so you deduct the amount you owe them, and give it to them in cash, and then they chargeback, so your bank takes 1750 out of your account, so you are left with -1200 and -1750, so you just lost -1200. Also the -100 steam gift card.

Anyways, keep in mind, if they were actually using a check to pay you, they would have written a check for 550!

Just repeating, Don't give them ANY money in ANY form. NOT giftcards, not cash, not a bank transfer. Either they pay that 550 cash, or they don't get the computer. Don't accept anything else from them!

One of the oldest scams in the book dude.  Good thing you checked here, otherwise you'd be out at least $100, presumably $1200 to pay the "mover", a PC and whatever the bank smacks you with for massively overdrafting when that cheque bounces.

For future reference, shipping a full PC via  xpresspost will cost you $50-100, purolator 1-2 day would be $200-400 and in no situation ever will it cost a fucking grand
