If legitimate criticism of how a company's testing methodology resulting in errors is considered an attack, then I'm not sure what else to say besides it not being one.

Here's the thing, if you want to be a lab, and you want to be held to lab standards, then you open your methods and data to scrutiny, which is what GN is doing here. LMG has the ability, and the right to respond to these allegations by re-running the tests to reproduce the data if they want to stand by it, but they aren't. GN's video isn't an attack, it's a flashlight on some of LMG's recent practices that have dubious ethical standings that need to be addressed.

There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

    Thanks for reading this.

Maybe a long shot but I'd first pull all of the keycaps and give the keyboard a proper and deep clean with compressed air, dusters and finally a lightly damp cloth. It may be that some crud has gotten stuck in some funny places. Usually keyboard switches are meant to last for millions of actuations. All else fails you could try to replace the switches.

From the online materials available the switches appears to be a soldered on. It may be a tonne of work but you could disassemble the keyboard down the the PCB, plate, etc. and from there manually desolder the problematic switches. At that point you could consider disassembling the switches or just replacing them and soldering the replacement switches in. From what I could gather on the web it looks to be using Gateron switches.

Really depends on your expected use. If you are planning to upgrade your ISP plan to the full 2Gbit and would likely benefit from/saturate the connection then I'd lean towards the 2.5 option. The DS920+ from what I'm aware of doesn't natively support 2.5gbe but can be made to with a USB dongle.

In terms of the switch, do you have a home network ecosystem? (e.g. Ubiquiti, TPlink, etc.)

My personal preference is spend now and save later but the affordable option is usually the best option.

another random person got a reaction from Raiyu in pc shuts off randomly, more details in post
It doesn't seem to be a Windows issue as similar logs are made if a PC were to be shut off from the wall switch. If you managed to break standoffs on your CPU cooler it may be likely that the Motherboard has sustained damage around the socket area. This is sort of a critical area as a lot of the VRMs are in the local surrounds and the traces between the CPU pin pad and the VRMs are easy to break. Often the sudden shut off will be a result of protections built into the motherboard to prevent huge issues in the event of shorts or arcs.

Apart from that, I'd look into the power supply but currently with the info I have it's sounding like a motherboard issue.

Maybe starting in safe mode and then use ddu to uninstall your display drivers and then reinstall the latest drivers and reboot to see if that fixes it.

Fluids (air included) always typically flow towards the path of least resistance so to answer your question, it would flow with unless if the flow was with gravity in which case the bubbles would flow up (Pending velocity/flow of course). Unless of course there's some other random physics phenomenon which I haven't encountered yet.

Not many modern thin and light laptops have USB A ports let alone 2-3 of them. You may have to start looking into devices for enterprise.
One example is the Lenovo Thinkpad T14, another would be the "New" Inspiron 14 as inbetweens.

The only laptop I can find which would fit your requirements is the Dell Latitude 3520, though it is a fully enterprise level device so it does not look as nice as the consumer models and is a little thicker.

Personally, I used a Asus Zenbook Duo (Non-pro) for mobile editing in my professional workflow. I found that photo and video editing did not use the GPU as much as I would have expected so I'd recommend going the Thin and light direction unless if you are also planning on gaming.

Some good baseline laptops to look into are the Dell XPS range or LG Gram range or the HP Spectres

By USB ports do you mean USB C or A

An upgrade should be alright in this case if you're just going between editions of Windows. It's typically when upgrading between major releases of Windows (like upgrading from Windows 10 to 11) where you'll see problems where a clean install is often better. In this case, it should be as painless as going between Windows 10 21H1 to 21H2.

another random person reacted to HanZie82 in What is arguably the best performing air cooler for high end CPUs?
Yes and no, its a really good cooler but there surely are better ones.
And also, since you can replace fans yourself, the cooling block should not be discounted if it has bad fans, since you can put your own on.
So no the NH-D15 isnt the best, but its a very very good one.

another random person reacted to mariushm in The fan is rated at 12V 0.3A, do you think a charging module that could do 12V 1.5A output will work?
    Yes and no.
The fan's nominal voltage (the voltage the fan is 'most happy' at) is 12v but will work at lower voltages, but making the fan spin slower.
The 0.3A is the current, how much current the fan will take from the power source. If you power it  with a power supply that can supply 10A of current, the fan will still take only 0.3A

Anyway... the charger can output UP TO 12v, but something needs to tell the charger to bump up the voltage from the default 5v to 12v ... by default, the charger needs to output 5v for safety just in case you plug other things in it. There must be "some brains" (in your phone the battery management chip) to tell the charger to increase voltage to 12v.

If you connect the fan directly to the charger, the charger will give the fan 5v, and depending on the fan it may start and spin but at very slow speed.

another random person reacted to GuiltySpark_ in what does ftpm mean?
fTPM or Firmware Trusted Platform Module is a security device that handles various cryptographic functions that the system can use for security. If the PC is brand new you can ignore/acknowledge this message. You'll find that this is required to be enabled for Windows 11.

    https://www.makeuseof.com/amd-ftpm-intel-ppt/
Enabling fTPM will not encrypt the drive by any means. If they enabled TPM then used drive encryption like Bitlocker, that would encrypt the drive. Enabling fTPM on its own will not do anything.

I'd recommend reinstalling Windows.  I'm presuming you have Windows 10, which, if you linked your Microsoft account when you first got your laptop will keep the same licence.  I think Microsoft have sorted out a backend where if you sign in with a Microsoft account, it'll automatically activate Windows with any keys previously associated with that account.
If that doesn't work, go to Activation in System Settings and follow any prompts resembling 'Activate Windows' or 'I changed hardware on this device recently'.
    Might work.

Just make sure you install the same version of Windows (i.e. Home or Professional).

There are no commonly available or viable options to achieve a true anamorphic look via a screw on filter in front of mainstream consumer lenses. There are however anamorphic look filters which aim to imitate the flaring and bokeh of anamorphic video though none deliver true stretched image anamorphic.

So like @AqHu mentioned, the Panasonic range of mirrorless cameras are something you should seriously consider since those cameras offer robust video quality for a reasonable price.
For now I would stay away from Canon cameras, especially the m50 in terms of video performance. That is because as much as the 4k function is advertised, the actual performance of it's supporting features are quite limited. One such example is the crop meaning that you would have to get quite a wide lens or have the camera placed a significant distance away from you to get a reasonable frame. Not to mention the fact that DPAF (Canon's famous in sensor focusing system) is disabled for the 4k shooting resolution. (No bias as I am a canon semi-pro shooter)
A camera to consider would be the GH4 which I believe is on offer currently at BH photo
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1028453-REG/panasonic_dmc_gh4kbody_lumix_dmc_gh4_mirrorless_micro.html
Considering your former choice was a Nikon B700 I'm assuming that the focus is on video and less so photography.

Though if you wish to be able to do more serious photography sony's range of APSC mirrorless cameras from the a6300 to the a6500 are reasonably priced and offer 4k as well as plenty of photography features.
And yes all the cameras mentioned above all have external mic line inputs and some have clean HDMI output for external recorders down the line.
Though if you are looking to grind and narrow fully into videos and have a slightly larger budget, the BMPCC 4k is worth considering.
