I mean technically i did post mine a minute earlier xD

  2. Intel and Micron announce QLC or Quad Level Cell NAND dies. Now the basis of the article is that first the QLC will be used in enterprise data center drives first which to me is no brainer. We need as a society quicker access to our videos and what not so using a SSD that can fetch data faster is always a good thing. Second item is that size of the drives from Micron appear to go from around 2TB to almost 8TB which is close to the size of the HDD that we had about two or three years ago in the data center market. Now the here is the kicker that was not talked about in the first part of the article and that is an increase in the number of layers for 3D NAND TLC memory. This is technology that will impact the consumer market place faster in my mind. From what I recall from the HOLY$HIT episode on the huge SSD that Linus got his hands on was that it was a memory controller issue for creating larger capacity drives. If QLC would be a 1 bit improvement over TLC that would mean a memory controller would not be needed to be improved drastically to handle the large size of the storage. With the same number of dies a QLC drive and a TLC drive would have a 33% increase in size alone. Now a quick look at pcpartpicker on the storage showed a drive I have not heard about from samsung (PM1663a) that has been around a while but I skip over that but go to the evo and pro line ups and that have a 4TB as the largest drive out there. With a 33% increase in drive size that would take that 4TB drive to 5.25TB with just a different die type. Now the speed will more than likely suffer though. If I remember the Techquickie video on SSD technology TLC is slower than two bit and one bit dies so I can see the QLC also being a little slower. However, given that the controllers were the prime issue in addressing the ability of TLC 3D NAND to get faster has worked upon and I do not think it will be an issue with say the 3rd version of QLC drives. Its a new technology so with the enterprises getting their shot first at the technology to smooth out the roughness I think consumers will be able to get a high capacity SSD in the near future. Although their is one item that is troubling me and that is outside of storage box for say videos what is the consumer need for a SSD drive of say 8 to 12 TBs. I can see it if some businesses want to reduce their cost and go with consumer drives instead of server grade hardware I just do not see a lot cases for such a huge drive in the market place. Maybe I am wrong but then again getting a bigger platter for HDDs could be a good reason but most programs are not getting that big outside of some games.
  3. Well it looks like I found what I was looking for. Just not completely sold on it yet. It is the Asus Transformer line of 2in1s. It looks pretty good and some of the newer models have USB3.0. The issue I been wondering about is charging and the camera. I am not sold on only a front facing camera but then again I guess I could break out my cannon digital camera I was hoping on retiring that camera but looks like I will I need to keep it around. Now I am thinking of skipping the 64gb drive versions and going with the 128gb as windows likes to do a lot writes to the disk which scares me. I also plan on getting a 128 SD card for applications. Anything I should be worried about with a setup like this. I am trying to get as much data as possible on this before I spend the money on it.
  4. 200 is a goal of a budget but is not a requirement. Like a lot of things the only requirement is Windows 10, a decent cam for 1080p video (if possible), and 4gb of ram. That is all I need. Outside of that cheaper the better but I am not looking to spend over 500 dollars at this point.
  5. I prefer Windows as I am used to it and a phone is not an option plus I know how to sync it to my desktop and laptop. Basically I would prefer 4GB as I find 2GB for browsing not workable. I would like between 8 and 10 inches. As for the USB it is something I would like versus need. As for budget well I prefer under 200 but that is not an issue per say.
  6. I am looking for a Windows 10 tablet that has at least 4GB of RAM and has decent camera that I can use for video of up to 1080p. Not looking for awesome video quality but would like something that I can post to the net. Any suggestions would be nice. I am on prime so the ability to buy on there would be nice. I would suggest that at minimal would have to be 8" in size and having a USB port that can be used for a flash drive while it is charging would be nice.
  7. So would a 1050Ti be an option. My last gpu was a 550TI until it died and went to intel graphics but been noticing some issues and rather keep that cpu running for a few more years before I upgrade to cannonlake. I do not play FPSs so gaming is not a huge issue for me at this time. It just be nice to have a game going on monitor, a video on the 4k, and some VMs and browser on the third.
  8. I am looking to add a 4k monitor video watching along with productivity with my 1080 monitor for gaming. I was wondering what Nvidia Graphics Card I should look at provided I can expand to a 3 monitor setup with a 1080p monitor as my 3rd one. I play no fps and ony rts and ksp as my primary games. I have looked at a 1060 6gb but was thinking maybe a 1050ti might be a good option as well. BTW my processor is an i5 4440.
  9. Say linus you may want to press Youtube on this video. They stole your entire video.
  10. Okay I know Motley Fool is not a tech news site but they do follow financials a lot and have been for years. The biggest thing is they only report on technology when it will impact the bottom line and this article about the Skylake processors will certainty do this if it is rumored to be true. First is some facts, new 14mm design process should give the xeons better performance. Next is this should drive more sales for Intel as the business side of processors is where they make money to do more enthusiasts grade stuff like the i7s and i5s. The biggest thing is they need to have chips that in the next year or two that can take on AMD's new architecture if they are going to survive losing a chunk of the personal home market when AMD comes out with Zen. Intel needs cashflow and the only way to do so is by reducing power consumption or increase performance which should reduce the need for as many processors for servers. That in turn can drive sales as people go to replace their processors. The rumor might be is moving off the 2011v3 chipset and if that is the case then that can drive even more sales for them. 2011v3 has been around for several xeon chips so they could move forward with a larger pinout and hopefully increase the PCIE bandwidth and possible start looking at the new PCIEv4 that is due to come out before the next decade as the need for high speed storage is increasing at a very high rate. The PCIE storage cards are running at 8x right now and with just one xeon you can run at most 5 of those cards which gives you without any RAID at most 20TB of storage. The issue is that when you start looking at RAID with those cards you have have the issue of that fact the card itself is already in a RAID 0 configuration. So you will have is a RAID 5 of a RAID 0 set of 5 cards or RAID 6. In any case if they can squeeze out another x8 of PCIE you can get a 20TB of RAID 5 or 16TB of RAID 6 with one processor. In anycase it should be interesting next spring when these Skylake processors are rumored to come out.
  11. I just never seem to get why the AMD has their chips run hotter. I still remember seeing a video where an AMD chip without a fan will start smoking where an Intel chip just stops working and saves itself. For me I rather have a company throttle and then shut down a chip before allowing it to damage itself. Not sure if the video was accurate or not but it was a LONG LONG time ago. It might have been the athlon vs a P3. Yeah I am old school. In any case I love ATI cards back in the day as they had the all in one vid cards but after AMD bought ATI I was not impressed. The biggest issue is I am also not a huge fan of Nvidia as when I buy products I like for the company to make the components they are selling. Like if it is branded Nvidia or AMD I like for those companies to actually make the card. Right now they are only making the chip and a select number of cards most of which are way above my budget for PC components. In any case getting back to the topic about the 1060 3GB. I hope JayZ will do some videos along with Luke. I like both of their bench marking methods and they work real nice. This is one card that I am actually looking forward to. The only other card that I would like to see is a 1050 2 or 4GB version. Something like a regular 1050 at 2GB and a 1050TI at 4GB.
  12. Yeah Nvidia has dropped the ball on DX12 in my mind which makes me mad. However, AMD has also not been working on heat issues with their chips either. So frankly when it comes to my next GPU I am looking more on Nvidia as I already have a hotter house and would prefer not to deal with overheating issues. As for the difference between the 480 8GB and the 1060 6GB it is one where Nvidia dropped the ball in pricing. I think they found out for 1080p gaming and 1440p gaming 3GB is enough and there is no need for 6GB when most people will not be gaming on 4k with a 1060 even though it could handle it. The price for those 4k monitors are still a little to high for the average pc gamer to buy. They are coming down but it will take some time. BTW a rumor I am thinking they might be doing is a 2GB and a 4GB 1050 cards as well. I think that might be a good option for them to take on AMDs lower end graphic cards.
  13. Uhm this post was just dropped today at 8am. NVIDIA did not say they were making a 3GB 1060 until today. Everything was rumors until now.
  14. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3109132/hardware/nvidias-new-200-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-challenges-the-radeon-rx-480-head-on.html Okay well here we go, here is the biggest thing when it comes down to it, The other big thing is the price point is 200 dollars which matches the RX480 MSRP. So for me this is great news as I was looking for a new graphics card but the MSRP for 1060 6GB and up just scares me. The other thing is I am not a fan of AMD. I just do not like the heat they put out as that tends to scare me. Overall this is a great news that NVIDIA is actually going into the low budget options. BTW here is one other thing is that the RAM is not the only thing changing, its also the base architecture. Frankly it looks to me that they had some 1060 chips that did not work out completely and instead of hording them for a 1050 they are just releasing a 1060 with a touch reduction.
  15. ONOTech PCWorld stated it is coming from a company called Galt. Look at the article link I posted earlier tonight.
