nsinnott got a reaction from Macboi in Ethernet network not using correct SSID - Preventing Homegroup sharing.
Have you tried setting up a share rather than doing it through HomeGroup? How about trying a remote connection from the laptop to the HomeGroup desktop? Have you tried pinging the machines from each other?

Qualcomm Atheros is a line of Wireless adapters. Sure you're looking at the right adapter here?
EDIT: whoops, I'm an idiot

Right, because you knocked $30 off the cooler, and $40 off the case... and gave me a really crappy looking one. Look, at this point, I have this, and I'm going to say thank you to everyone who contributed here, and go on my merry way. Who knows, by the time the money clears, I might have changed something, and in that case, if I'm still not 100% confident, chances are that I'll post again. For now though, I'm going to stick with what I have gotten from this thread (including info about overpriced GPUs as well as RAM speed and Ryzen.) Thank you to everyone who contributed, I really appreciate it, and I hope to be back in a couple weeks with a completed build

Yeah, I would use a bootable USB and follow the steps in that article you linked. Then just reverse the steps if you want/need to. It's worked many times for me in the past

nsinnott got a reaction from DrMacintosh in How do I install windows on a MacBook Pro 2015?
For starters, is this a 2015 MBP? Because those models don't have hard drives... And if it is, you can't buy a standard M.2 SSD because it is a proprietary connector, so you'd have to buy an Apple compatible one from OWC anyway.

I would tend to agree with this. I will say though, that within Windows, it stores the name of the device, which isn't necessarily the same as the SSID. For example, my router's name is NewHouse, but the SSID is something completely different. On wireless, the SSID shows as the "something else" but within Windows, it shows as NewHouse. However, I do have connectivity between the devices.

Then I would say go into the router and block the ports that the PS4 streaming service uses, or just set up MAC filtering during a certain time frame while he's using it, and have it shut off when your dad wants to use it
EDIT: looks like you can stream to multiple sites from the PS4, so I would just use MAC filtering. Should be some sort of parental controls section in the router control panel, or just manually block the PS4 MAC address.

I can't read Tele2's website, but if you google "Tele2 WiFi calling Croatia" it should come up, if it's even available. If not, I would give them a call and ask if they sell MicroCells, which are like boosters

nsinnott got a reaction from greeatzy in Improving mobile network signal
It doesn't matter. For example, I have Verizon for cellular, and then Cox for internet in my home. My phone will connect to Verizon's network through the internet, so the internet provider is irrelevant. However, like I said, if you have an iPhone, WiFi calling is unavailable anyway.

nsinnott got a reaction from Hungryhypocrite_ in Will my fresh Windows find my Raid 0
Is it set up as a dynamic volume through Disk Management (or Storage Spaces)? If so, then Windows should automatically detect the volume. If it doesn't, usually a quick trip into Disk Management and initializing the volume should fix the problem

nsinnott got a reaction from kirashi in RAID 1 of External Hard Drives
I have logical volumes set up through Disk Management that work just fine in other machines. The drives just have to be initialized and then I can access all the data just fine.
EDIT: just re-read your post and realized you were talking about one of the failed drives. *facepalm*

Um, I'm pretty sure that when I bought Synergy, it said "Lifetime access to Synergy"... so...

nsinnott got a reaction from SlipperyPete in Synergy, buy it for "life"
I bought synergy less than a month ago, with no mention of a possible new product/version, so yes, I'm a little ticked off that I have to pay almost what I paid for the original product again, 1 month later.

What power supply do you have? and what GPU? you can't make 3 from 2, so you're either going to need a new PSU, or a different GPU

I personally would go with Ryzen over the Pentium. I would say something like this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/CF6wWX. Obviously, you can choose the case you'd like, and you can find Windows 10 on various websites for $30 or $40

Modems and routers are not the same thing. Modems provided by the ISP are generally fine for the connection you are getting. When they provide a router, or a router-modem combination unit, however, those are usually pieces of poo.

Windows key + R, type diskmgmt.msc and right click the unallocated space and create a basic volume. Format as NTFS and you're good to go.

Or you could use something like the eero. You can find more info here.

No, it really hasn't. macOS is extremely optimized for the hardware that it runs on. This is why the 12in MacBook runs so well even though it only has a dual core 1.2 GHz processor. Now as for removing the USB ports, they haven't. They have just modernized them. USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 provides so much expandability. Displays, power, USB, external storage. The possibilities are great.

That looks great I would personally recommend an EVGA 1070, depending on your budget, either SC or FTW. I would also recommend an EVGA power supply because they offer a great warranty. The rest of it looks solid!
