  1. Skylake/Kabylake has a lot of disadvantages with regards to PCIe because if you try and use any of the M.2 slots on almost any of the Skylake or Kabylake MOBOs, it will disable PCIe slots or even sometimes several SATA ports. I got my Extreme11 because of the two PLX chips (providing 64 PCIe lanes) and LSI SAS controller, so I can run my many HDDs and have room to expand to many NVMe drives over PCIe in the future without crippling other ports or slots in my PC. If you only have a few HDDs or plan on never going to SLI/Crossfire, it shouldn't be an issue though.
  2. As a 5820K owner, I say get Ryzen. I love my CPU, and it was a great purchase at $370 back in late 2014 when I got it... but not so much anymore. For the same reasons stated here; X99 is a dead end, and X99 MOBO & CPU prices haven't come down in all these years. AM4 will hopefully live on for several more years with new CPUs w/ higher IPCs. Sure you will be able to get old server CPUs for cheap on X99 in a few years, but they won't offer any advantage for gaming compared to current X99 consumer processors. I used to be on X58 and went from an i7-920 to a used X5670.
  3. Smartphones are using DDR4 now. More demand with not enough supply. http://www.pcgamer.com/heres-why-ddr4-ram-prices-have-spiked/ http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/ram-prices-are-increasing-until-third-quarter-2017/
  4. If you don't care about HDR, then now is a good time to upgrade. If you do care about HDR, then by the end of this year or early next year. There will be many new monitors with HDR10 support released by the end of the year. Here is a list of some of the known ones: Asus PG27UQ, Acer Predator XB272, LG 32UD99 (just released), Samsung CHG70, Samsung CHG75, Samsung CHG90, BenQ SW320, Asus PA32U. The first two on the list will be 4K, HDR, 144Hz, quantum dot, IPS, with a huge pricetag. I'm still using an Acer HN274H 120HZ 27" monitor I bought in 2011, and I plan to upgrade to the Samsung CHG75 when it releases later this year.
  5. CPU: i7-5820k @ 4.2GHz GPU: Asus GTX 980 Reference @ +240MHz core, +450MHz mem (stock reference air cooler) RAM: 32GB DDR4-3000 G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series MOBO: Asrock X99 Extreme11 Score: 9.5
