  1. My friend is looking to upgrade his computer from 8gb of ram to something more. I was telling him that he should just get another 8gb stick, but he proposed buying a 4gb stick because he's a little short on money for his pc. Is there any performance benefit from having 2 sticks with the same amount of memory or would adding 4gb to make a total of 12 be just fine?
  2. It still works like it did before. No damage done that's noticeable at least
  3. A little bit of a backstory here: I have a focusrite scarlett audio interface, and I have an XLR to audio jack adapter that I would use for my phone. I am trying to use my phone as an audio source to mix w/ my mic. The only issue is that I use a condenser microphone and thus it requires phantom power and you cannot turn it off for a specific XLR port. When I plug my phone in it does not recognize headphones unless the phantom power is turned off. I was wondering if I could use an external phantom power injector for my microphone and if it would interfere with any other XLR ports on the interface, or the device itself. Thanks in advance
  4. Here is a great video from Kyle/Bitwit about how to choose parts so that they work together. It's definitely worth looking at. For a GPU: what you should get depends on what you want to play, and at what resolution. A gtx 1070 or 1070 ti is great for 1080p at ultra settings at high framerates or 1440p. A 1050 ti is great for 1080p at medium settings. I wouldn't go to AMD just because of pricing right now, and the better performance on the green team. For a CPU: Most CPUs today will not bottleneck your gpu, but for gaming, clock speed is key. Don't go with old offerings from AMD because they have no upgrade path and are very inefficient. New stuff from AMD will be good for overall multi-tasking, but intel is always the champion in games. Since 8th gen intel CPUs are so highly priced due to availability, I would go with a 7th gen option. An i3 may be tempting, but they do not work very well for gaming. For a Case: Pick something pretty that you like For a PSU: PCPartPicker is a great website that you can put all these parts into. It will also give you an estimated voltage. Always go about 100 watts above that to be safe though. For a Motherboard: Use the provided socket number with whatever CPU you get, and find a motherboard that will fit your case. For intel, if you want to overclock, you need a K series processor and a Z series motherboard. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then get a non-k CPU and a B or H series motherboard. For Storage: I highly recommend a SSD of a capacity above 500gb. If you need any more storage, you can get a regular hard drive for cheap. For Ram: Either get 8gb or 16gb of ram. Buy Ram in 2 stick kits and get a speed of 2400mhz or more. Make sure it's DDR4 For a Cooler: If you are going with a large case, get an air cooler. If you want something more pretty, get an AIO water cooler. If you are going with AMD for a CPU, make sure there is an AM4 bracket included or one that you can buy. EDIT: If you want to do streaming, I'd go with AMD. More CPU cores will make it less impactful on your game to stream.
  5. Is your game in fullscreen, windowed, or borderless windowed?
  6. I'm assuming ATX, so here is a link to a cheap Gigabyte MOBO with z270 because I assume you will be overclocking. On sale for $80 for a few.
  7. You might be able to get away with it, but that's only after moving fans up a few notches. People have reports of it working like that for ripjaws ram, but that is shorter. I would get some other brand, but just be cautious. Your ram : 53mm height, Trident Z : 44mm. The person got by barely with the Trident Z and that was prob. in an ATX case. I don't think it would work very well if at all for you.
  8. It could be display settings in your graphics card's control panel
  9. I have a pair of m50xs and they are great. Fairly accurate. There's a graph Right Here
  10. Its a free beta for the time being so no. On the FAQ for GeForce Now it states the pricing that will be upcoming.
  11. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/10/a-surge-of-sites-and-apps-are-exhausting-your-cpu-to-mine-cryptocurrency/ A company by the name of CoinHive has been selling a service to website owners and hacking their way into others to be able to run mining software through a website, depleting your system resources on your phone or tablet for money, even when you just have the tab open. It is usually used to prevent a website from having to run ads. The only problem is that this mining is done without any permission or consent from the user. This is not cool on the part of the site owners. IMO at least tell your visitors. Its similar to if someone made YouTube videos from your computer without your consent, and gave a small cut to YouTube.
  12. I have a Huawei honor 6x and I bought it for around $210, now $195 . It has a fantastic battery life along with dual cameras, even though that's not an important criteria. The screen is okay but you could probably get something better from LG like a V20. just my 2 cents though
  13. I currently have a scarlett 2i4 audio interface and a pair of m50xs and was looking to upgrade from a cheap microphone I bought a year ago. Looking for something that records good vocals and doesn't break the bank. I already have a boom and am not worried about any xlr or phantom power problems. No usb mics
  14. Crucial has some cheap ssds with their mx lineup. A 1TB m.2 ssd for only $300. this is the 2.5" drive
