xwboy got a reaction from Ben17 in This is a RAM issue, right?
Hi!
Recently I've been getting frequent "memory_management" BSODs while gaming. I ran the built in Windows memory checker and it almost instantly said that hardware problems has been found. This sounds to me like a memory issue. I tried resetting my CPU OC to stock but OCCT still prompted a BSOD. Before I go try to RMA my memory, I'd just like the confirm this is a memory issue. Thanks!

Sounds like thermal throttling to me. What are the temps like when you're gaming? Does it instantly drop or does it spike up to boost clock then drop soon after?

The QVL is basically what's been tested and verified 100% to work on that board. It's almost certainly going to work but they just haven't tested that specific kit to verify 100% that there won't be issues. You'll be able to hit 3000MHz no problem though.

I don't think I've downloaded anything recently besides updates to games. I'll try chkdsk though.

xwboy reacted to PLME888 in Oculus Rift vs. HTC Vive
Rift owner here:
I have experience with the Vive and picture quality and comfort are the same. I really like the Rift controllers (reason why i bought it over the Vive) as it sits nice in the hand. Roomscale is better on the Vive (better tracking at longer range from the sensors). Game selection is mixed, think of it like PS4 vs Xbox exclusives and timed exclusives, just look at the selection yourself and choose a side.
Good luck.

xwboy got a reaction from John russel23 in Can i change 32 bit operating system to 64 bit?
You installed a 32 bit version of Windows, but your hardware is capable of running either a 32 bit or 64 bit OS. Back up your data and reinstall a 64 bit version of windows.

Are the case connectors plugged into the correct headers on the motherboard? Check your motherboard manual to be sure.

xwboy got a reaction from TonyTheNain in CPU OC benchmark software
Cinebench, Prime95, and Aida64. Cinebench is quick and gives you a score you can compare to other people's or your before overclocking. Prime95 and Aida64 are stress tests that you should run for a long time to make your overclock is stable.

All that means is that the OS can detect the disk. The black line means it isn't ready to use. What you need to do is right click in the box where it says it is unallocated then click new simple volume. Go through the wizard that pops up, making sure to assign it a drive letter. When the option comes up, click "format this volume with the following settings" and select NTFS and Default, give it a name, check the box that says "perform a quick format". Click finish and you're good to go.

xwboy reacted to DyverTech in Internet on New PC Not Working
Possibly if it's not playing nicely with something else. I'd download the AVG remover software and uninstall AVG normally then run that to make sure it completely cleans it off. Then just download a fresh copy from their site. You can check through your event viewer to see if there are any errors coming up from AVG or a program/driver that isn't working with it then diagnose from there. Check to make sure your Windows Firewall is either running without AVG's or AVG's is running and Window's isn't. One of the issues I ran into was Creative Cloud also trying to update seemed to be messing with AVG. We ended up having to disable AVG while Creative Cloud updated then re-enable it. Not sure if that applies to you but may be worth keeping in mind if you have programs looking for updates.
You can also try a piece of software called Windows Repair Toolbox. It'll run different diagnostics and has a lot of useful software you can get through it. One of which is a network troubleshooting. Supposedly, it tries a lot of options to repair your network. I've never tried that bit but it might work for you.
Good luck,

xwboy got a reaction from SCHISCHKA in looking for a simple yes or no for streaming
I'm talking about price here. I know a 4790k will edge a 6700k out slightly but I would rather have a 6700k/1070 than a 4790k/1060. Sure streaming is almost all CPU-bound but he'll get a better gaming experience (especailly at 1440p or more than 60Hz refresh rate) as well as basically equal stream quality with a 6700k/1070.

So I just got this to find out that it already has a backplate on it. What do I do at this point? All I have is a hyper 212 evo for a cooler so I'm screwed if I can't use it.
