something i've found can help a bit is to add a fan at a 45 degree angle at the front of the gpu, to 'motivate' some air into the GPU, instead of just relying on the front fans to move air all the way down.

Air cooled 3080 tis are hard to cool especially in cases with a traditional setups. Some like the FTW3 Ultra(400 watts stock) are extremely hard to cools.

The issue is that hot air gets trapped below the GPU and gets ingested by the GPU over and over again.
    This video shows the issue.

For my gaming PCs I now use cases that intake from the bottom and exhaust everywhere else.
For my traditional cases with PSUs below the GPU I add a 60mm fan below the GPU as an exhaust or an intake. Whatever works.

It's a fine case. The airflow version is obviously better, but the standard 4000D isn't too bad.

If it's the GPU overheating (or getting hotter than you'd like), I recommend looking into under volting it with MSI Afterburner.

Front fans in, everything else out.

For balanced airflow, control the exhaust fans to spin more slowly than the intake fans.

Your issues with over heating may be due to the design of the case. Many prebuilts come with terrible cases. which one do you have?

There is no guarantee that a particular X570/B550 board will work. But you can buy a board that supports BIOS flashback. Then you can flash the BIOS without needing a compatible CPU first. Luckily most mid and high end boards have this feature.

If you're buying new, and you're looking for a board to use paired with a 5950X, you're most likely going to be looking at X570 boards. Any new X570 board will support the 5950X out of the box.

Just choose a Motherboard with a Bios Flashback Feature in it, Also if you go with a Ryzen 9 5950x I strongly Recommended an X570, I mean a X570 that doesn't sucks.

Don't be too paranoid about Bios Version on the Motherboard, Usually a New Motherboard (Whether it it's b550 or X570) Usually came with already supported BIOS for Ryzen 5000 Series, Just to be clear tho

Even if you're somehow got a Older Version of BIOS, The motherboard probably will have like a Bios Flashback on it (Because if you could afford a 5950x you has to somewhat buy a Mid-High end Motherboard..)

Even if your motherboard somehow doesn't have a Bios Flashback, You can buy a 3000 Series CPUs for a really good price (I mean again you managed to get a 5950x, So....)

To actually answer your question of price segmentation within the 2080Ti card, it does matter. As I said before, there are really 4 cards you want to look at if you want the best 2080TI experience. Those are the MSi Lightning Z, EVGA KiNGPiN, Asus ROG Strix, or Galax Hall of Fame edition cards. These are probably the 4 most expensive, but by far and beyond the best.

Thanks Aleks, the S8 is another option, I think ill go contract and from what I see the S9 was on a deal I can get like £1-3 more a month over the S8. When you say wait, is there any release dates or good guesses on how long the wait might be as I am on a bit of a potential month deadline.

    cheers,

I'd wait for the OnePlus 6 or Pixel 3, or consider the S8. The S9 imo isn't worth it, as it's a tad better than the S8(2GB more ram, faster CPU for £350 more) .

LewisBloom reacted to Pendragon in UK - VR ready laptop advice
Firstly this is generally not capable of running VR. Look at all the thin and light 1060 laptops. The majority of them fail VR spec because they are TDP limited, throttled, and a 6700HQ is god awful for VR because of 3.1ghz turbo boost. So you'll want a 1070 at least.

Since you live in the UK you have some good choices.

These are the Clevo's P series BGA lineup and generally one of the best gaming laptops currently on the market. Unless you want to go thin and light, then a GS63VR will be fine, but you're paying ALOT more for thinness. Whereas you can spec out these guys with a 1070 + 7820HK (4.8-5.0ghz OC). You need a better CPU for VR then just gaming.

Pick an area and learn it. Saying you want a job in computers is like saying you want a job in vehicles. Its too broad to actually really mean anything, do you want to drive taxi's, be a mechanic, wash them, sell them etc etc etc etc what do you mean?

I went the home system repair route way back via a small low paid job at a local independent place. It got me the experience I need (I don't have any qualifications in this area) that then led me to tech support in a school, which btw in itself is an independent industry as edu IT is very very VERY different to other sectors. The jobs didnt pay mega well but I enjoyed the work, I am a people person which helps as the old image of IT being locked away is essentially being phased out. More and more now its all about people skills in being able to not only deal with an issue but also the person having the issue and repair or fix in a way that lessens disruption to the job they are doing. being on good terms with the others you work with pays off big time and you have to realise that IT support is a service industry these days too so its smile and wave time boys lol.

Anyway, experience was key to me, I'm UK based btw. So if you can even volunteer at a PC shop a day a week or something silly just for experience alone it could pay off down the road. I think you just have to remember that your in it for the long game its not going to be a quick thing normally, so a part time volunteer or paid job and some studying here and there will pay off.

I myself did it the other way round I went part time and studying for a different computer sector and left the school in 2014 for the job of my dreams that I'd be working part time on for sometimes no pay for a decade.

best of luck in your own IT adventure,
    Lewis

    HP STREAM 11: BATTERY LIFE
HP claims that the three-cell Lithium-ion battery inside the Stream 11 will deliver up to eight hours and 15 minutes of life before it requires charging again. It just about delivered, too, as it managed just over eight hours of web browsing and YouTube viewing.
However, we were particularly impressed with its endurance under heavy strain. It lasted six hours of playing iPlayer and YouTube videos with the screen at maximum brightness and the volume at 80%.
It’s also a fast charger, going from flat to 24% in just 30 minutes. That would theoretically give you just under two hours of mixed use, or almost 90 minutes of heavy use.

I use the T150 and its a great entry level wheel. I would say FFB is a must for any wheel. If you go into somewhere like PC World/Curry's if in the UK you can also get a T150 cheaper than anywhere else. Not sure how that works but mine was £30 under the lowest price I could find online.

I use my T150 for truck sim and racing including iRacing and its got me up to B Class license for online oval racing so far OK, no issues.
