  1. Okie dokie, yes its the entire system gets a bit on the hot side but its not always which is always a little weird (flight sim, sim racing sometimes seems to be fine othertimes the case really hot to touch with the side glass getting pretty toasty. Not sure if you have access but I updated my profile with the full system specs, having all the Hard drives (for work) probably doesn't help with the heat as I think I am somewhat maxxing out what is possible to cram into the case. Ill do some googling on the undervolt stuff, as that's something ive never had to do before. I expect things will improve once I get this flow thing sorted though. Even when I ramp the fans up its not clear using my hand to know if a fan is exhausting or sucking in, which I figure is the sign of a really bad fan. Thinking I might get three Notua fans to replace the exhaust and two top fans. Thankyou so much for your input so far its super helpful, as I said in my first post, though I watch LTT videos so much I always feel guilty only coming here cap in hand asking for help, it truly is appreciated. cheers, Lewis
  2. Oh buggar yes, so the case is; CORSAIR 4000D BLACK CASE This is my cooler; CORSAIR HYDRO H150I RGB PRO XT CPU COOLER For nutjob reason even though I was balls to the wall on the system I decided at the time to replace the fans with cyberpower UK fans, and they really are trash.
  3. Hello you lovely people, I always feel guilty as I only ever visit this forum when I am in need of help and advice but you guys always knock it out the park so here I am again. Ive got a question regarding the current thinking of how fans should be setup on my case. So iuve a radiator on the front with three fans, two on the top of the case and one on the back of the case. GPU has its own fans down toward the lower half of the case (3080Ti) I believe I am a year or so older than Linus and I got into PC's slightly earlier and been building my own, for all PC's except this one. I decided time and money wise, I could afford my very first pre-build. Specced it all out and ive been happy with it except the fans it came with seem to be trashed and maybe installed all wrong meaning the PC runs very hot under heavier VR loads. I am going to replace the fans but not sure how to set them up. TL:DR if the radiator is on the front should I have the rear fan blowing in and the front fans blowing out, and then what should the top/roof fans be doing, blowing in or out of the case? thanks, Lewis
  4. Thanks for the help peoples, its like being back in the 90's when AMD where king again lol, its a shame this particular aspect hasn't changed though. Intel might not be king anymore but I had gotten use to the plug and play nature of them over the past couple decades hehe. Lazy in my older years for sure, I am even considering a pre-built just configured sans GPU and HDD's. Seems a smart way to get compatibility and more of the plug and play I'm use too. Ill keep an eye on this thread and continue some reading online over the next couple weeks before I press the trigger on anything. cheers, Lewis
  5. Hey lovely peoples of the LTT community. I am looking at updating my 6700k system, going back to AMD this time around to be expected of course. My only real confusion is in the damn bios flashing issues. I don't have an old chip to flash a bios and I am unsure of which models of motherboard are plug and play with the current gen? Any advise appreciated, any being pointed in the right direction greatly thankful for cheers, Lewis
  6. Okie dokie so if the only option is modem and then router separate maybe I should just keep the existing Hub in modem mode and get a new router for the wireless element?
  7. Yes please, any all in one recommendations would be best over having to have a separate modem and router using two plugs, two pieces of hardware etc is just a litle more annoying over a single even larger piece of kit I can have on what is the small porch table. I am happy to spend the cash so long as can sit where my current hub sits and not randomly drop devices as its limit gets hit lol. Thank you for the help so far cheers, Lewis
  8. Thanks for the help, glad to hear I am not the only one. I've been grandfathered in I think on the package, I think it used to be called Infinity or something. The actual hardware is the BT Smart Hub - Type A My package is; Your BT Broadband Your current BT Broadband: Fibre with BT Halo 1
  9. It was specifically the BT Hub replacement I was slightly worried about just as I have read some older posts about Netgear not being overly compatible with the BT systems in place. cheers, Lewis
  10. Any comments or advice on the following issue appreciated, The BT Hub I have had a few years is either failing or we are hitting the limit as to what can be connected, as it regular wont let devices connect and needs restarting. I was thinking about just replacing it but not sure what the best option would be? We have a fair amount of devices in the family from tablets, phones, smarts TV's and alexa's etc throughout. cheers Lewis
  11. My interest is more in the VR element, and the improvements and better future proofing over the 980Ti. I am a power game/sim user I guess so ignore the 1080p thing, its not an average use case for me.
  12. Hello peoples, I am a lowly 1080p gamer but also a heavy Vive VR gamer currently on a 980Ti. Looking forward to the newer headsets but enjoying my vive immensely for sitting, standing and roomscale immersive experiences and games. Time for me to think of a GPU upgrade and just wondering given the price I have to shell out on what people might recommend for an air cooled version. prices range from 1k to several hundred above that, is the several hundred more or less just brand pricing mark ups? cheers and thanks for any and all advice as ever, Lewis
  13. Hey peoples, wanting to get eldest daughter a little gaming PC for christmas. She plays minecraft, sonic racing, stardew etc. Because I want to turn it on and go rather than have to build it which I unfortunaly dont have time for in the christmas build up/hard to build it and keep it a secret I am going to go pre-built. I've looked on Amazon, ebuyer etc at the classic cyberpower PC's and cheap random amazon builds but before I buy a little cheap gaming desktop thought I'd ask in case anyone has any advice or deals on where is best to get such a little system ideally under £500, the cheaper the better. cheers Lewis
  14. Ended up with S9 Plus, getting on really well with it. The included transfer cable was pleasant surprise and made the change stupidly easy. Thanks for the advice peoples
  15. Thanks Aleks, the S8 is another option, I think ill go contract and from what I see the S9 was on a deal I can get like £1-3 more a month over the S8. When you say wait, is there any release dates or good guesses on how long the wait might be as I am on a bit of a potential month deadline. cheers, Lewis
  16. Hello peoples, Been out the loop phone wise for a while now. I have an iPhone6 and ready for an upgrade and change. My only requirements are headphone jack is needed as I regularly use headphones with the phone and also looking at a better camera than the somewhat rubbish iphone job. Whats the low down in peoples opinions right now, is the S9 worth a punt, and any advice on going from Iphone to samsung? cheers and thanks for any help and or advice, Lewis
  17. Thanks for the heads up on the laptops Pendragon duly noted for future use. Just trying to get budgets sorted for new financial year so I know when I can get my gurbby mits on one. cheers, Lewis
  18. yes you are right there are no laptops that will be as good as my desktop, but like it or not if I'm at a local airfield ill still have to work so will need something better than the cheap £500 laptop I have now really, I've managed just about till now but need something with more clout that can run the sims better than 10fps. Budget will be around £2k anything under is of course mega bonus points. thanks, Lewis
  19. I doubt a surface book will have the clout I need, I work in simulations so things like surface books tend to be ruled out from the get go. I've been looking over the scan.co.uk custom laptop systems as a rough guide price too.
  20. Pick an area and learn it. Saying you want a job in computers is like saying you want a job in vehicles. Its too broad to actually really mean anything, do you want to drive taxi's, be a mechanic, wash them, sell them etc etc etc etc what do you mean? I went the home system repair route way back via a small low paid job at a local independent place. It got me the experience I need (I don't have any qualifications in this area) that then led me to tech support in a school, which btw in itself is an independent industry as edu IT is very very VERY different to other sectors. The jobs didnt pay mega well but I enjoyed the work, I am a people person which helps as the old image of IT being locked away is essentially being phased out. More and more now its all about people skills in being able to not only deal with an issue but also the person having the issue and repair or fix in a way that lessens disruption to the job they are doing. being on good terms with the others you work with pays off big time and you have to realise that IT support is a service industry these days too so its smile and wave time boys lol. Anyway, experience was key to me, I'm UK based btw. So if you can even volunteer at a PC shop a day a week or something silly just for experience alone it could pay off down the road. I think you just have to remember that your in it for the long game its not going to be a quick thing normally, so a part time volunteer or paid job and some studying here and there will pay off. I myself did it the other way round I went part time and studying for a different computer sector and left the school in 2014 for the job of my dreams that I'd be working part time on for sometimes no pay for a decade. best of luck in your own IT adventure, Lewis
  21. Hello peoples, I've decided that its about time I got a laptop I can run the games and software on a little better that I provide support for. So I want to get a decent laptop this year. Ideally VR ready would be nice for some cheeky mobile VR gaming out of my office and into the front room. What are the things I should look out for or rather should avoid at present CPU, GPU etc wise? I wont be buying for a little bit yet so this is first feelers to start gathering some info. thanks for any and all help or advice, Lewis
  22. WOW what a disaster http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37618618 Even as an iPhone user locked into there eco system I feel so much for Samsung and cant see how this isnt going to really really really hurt the company. I wonder how this story is going to end for Samsung.
  23. The 980Ti is still a kick ass card, if you can find one one the cheap now the 10xx series has been around a little bit it'd be a damn good buy depending on what you want to be using it for. cheers, Lewis
  24. Hey George one more question if I may. Is the OS you are using 8.1 or 10? cheers, Lewis
