Bruh, that's not the fury X right behind the 980 ti; that's an r9 fury.
So a fury X would be a few percent faster than a 980 ti in Hitman.

This is getting childish at this point. Just admit that you were wrong and move on, it's not the end of the world.

You provided no source of an AotS developer saying anything. Then when a developer does say something, which was completely opposite to what you claimed, you dismiss it. The source you provided (with no sign of an Ashes dev saying anything) was outdated. You told me to look at the newest posts (follow down the post) and once again the latest post was from early-to-mid May - far before the 480 unveiling. So once again, please tell me, did this imaginary AotS developer in your "source", travel back in time and post it in there? Do you think I am stupid?

Far out man, you can be so stubborn at times. The very fact that you believe it's "extremely rare" that you are wrong further reinforces that. Just admit it, you were wrong. It's OKAY to be wrong. If one can never be comfortable with that, they will always limit their own ability and success in life.

Considering that you're university student, I find it extremely concerning that you lack the basic skills needed to actually be a student.

    1) Failure to provide evidence despite claiming to have evidence
    2) Inability to admit errors
    3) Unwilling to learn from aforementioned errors
    4) Arrogance (and unwarranted arrogance at that)

There are probably more problems I've overlooked but I do have to question how you've supposedly spent years at university without learning basic skills and that none have showed you any better. They must be focusing all their attention on teaching the curriculum, which I assume you excel at, and ignore the rest. Horrifying. Considering the (probably) vast amounts of money they receive to provide education, they should at least do a decent job at developing and challenging minds instead of just filling it with information and hoping they know what to do with it.

Oh well. It's probably futile at this point.

I am not defending Microsoft, I am saying what it is. Not my problem if I have to correct "Nintendo Microsoft is D0000000000000000000000000000000000000000m" type of comments, been said since 1998-1999 (for both Nintendo and Microsoft, funny enough).
Look at their financial reports, look at their stock, look at innovation output, everything says that Microsoft is far from doing bad.

Actually, "mainstream" is whatever you try to describe it according to your agenda.
This is what you try to call mainstream on a product that hasn't been released yet.
Yeah, nice job trying to put an unreleased chip that has 2.5X better performance per watt, built on a 14nm process and a new architecture... on a roadmap slide that's made for last generation GPUs.
Admit it, you're doing this after all:

With your logic, the GTX 950 should perform just as bad, if not worse, than the GTX 750 Ti, but it doesn't. But both cards are mainstream GPUs, aren't they?

What I object to is you dismissing that mindshare actually exists based on your laughable notion that people "upgrade in waves".

Simple question - Do you think that people buy up all the cards on day 1, or do you think that these cards are sold over many months and years?

2nd simple question - Why do you think people continue to buy the 970 over the 390 by a huge factor?  Because it's getting destroyed in every DX12 benchmark and even most DX11 ones today?

Just use logic and you'll understand how utterly ridiculous your argument is that AMD "just got unlucky."

You seem to have gotten your panties in a twist because you failed to understand that at that VERY moment I was being told about your "wave theory", I was also in discussion with other people on other subjects.  My comments section does not revolve around you and your "theories".

jbslayer reacted to dalekphalm in AMD officially classifies Polaris 10 as mainstream desktop GPU and high-end notebook GPU
And I think "Mainstream" is being at least partially redefined, both by the market itself, and by the manufacturers.

Given that AMD only really needs 3 base chips (Plus cut down variants to fill in the gaps) to fill out their Desktop portfolio, this makes perfect sense.

Polaris 11 as the low end and Notebook chip

Polaris 10 as the mainstream chip

Vega as the high end chip

What they name it in the end? Who friggin' cares? They can call it a R7 460X for all I care, as long as the performance is where we want. If the R7 460X performs as well as a R9 390, then I would not call that a disappointment.

But of course, this is all speculation. You're speculating too, just the same as the rest of us. We're taking the information given, and trying to see where it'll come out.

    Maybe Polaris 10 will be an R7 460/460x. Or maybe it'll be a R9 480x. Maybe it'll perform the same as a R9 370X. Maybe it'll match or beat a 390X.

    We don't know for sure.

Polaris was revealed a long time ago, and to a much more detailed extent than Pascal. Both will release HBM2 cards about the same time, as the delay is due to lack of production rather than lack of cards.

Can't really qualify this work as journalism. Sorry.
An "issue" shouldn't deprive the uploaded video (and audience, really) from displaying the results of one of the manufacturers top card (fury x).

1- You work the issue, you don't work around the issue.

2- This video was made because it was cost effective, as in "stuff was already kinda built, sort of". Good for you guys.

Never, ever, put out a review using results gathered from virtualized environments when the review sole purpose is "hardware". Test virtualization when reviewing virtualization.

3 - The results themselves have strange anomalies which should prompt proper investigation (290 > 390x? and by the way the 290 does not equate to 390 performance wise). You either commit or you dont.

AMD's gaming evolved program in general has a good track record on optimization. I.e. Running well on both AMD and Nvidia and scaling well across different tiers of hardware.

of course the main responsibility lies with the game devs. Not the IHVs
