  1. 1. Visit https://www.itri.co.uk/itsci/itsci-project-overview/itsci-project-overview for more information 2. As above (we're non-for-profit so I apologise for the poor quality of the website, but meh, not my job) 3. Unfortunately the infrastructure in these countries is not good enough to support mass-scale production of chips or even the Smelting of the mineral (they did build a Smelter in the DRC but the power supply from the aging hydro damn wasn't sufficient to use it ) - practically all of the Tin, Tungsten and Tantalum mineral sourced in the DRC is from artisanal (read small scale - with pick 'n' hand) mine sites. Sources - I produce the CFSP reports for Smelters in the iTSCi Scheme and have given talks in the DRC to governmental agents during training programs.
  2. Companies like Intel are only declared Conflict Free when the Smelters who they source from are; so by proxy Intel can declare their Processors and chips etc as Conflict Free - as long as the Smelters they source from are CFSP (Conflict Free Smelter Program) compliant! (How do I know) I produce CFSP reports for the Smelters for a living. Basically the scheme I work on (iTSCi - the "ITRI Tin Supply Chain Initiative") - which only covers Tin, Tungsten and Tantalum (the 3 Ts), monitors the movement from Mine to Export, within the DRC, Rwanda and Burundi (and a site in Uganda), of mineral via a tagging system (in some other channels Intel 'unboxings' of this you actually see a "Logbook" getting the tag data recorded). The Mine sites are all vetted before any tagging is allowed to start, and there is constant monitoring of the situation on the ground, in these countries, to ensure that the supply chain has no vulnerabilities and that any armed groups are far enough away from the supply chain to not affect it (DRC is a HUGE country - and also one of the most beautiful places on earth). Pretty weird day when you watch a LTT video during your lunch break and see a Tag appear that your running a report on
  3. ERMAHGHAD!!! I work for the iTSCi Scheme and that Tag in the Intel video at 2:59 (see pic) is one of our tags ahhhhhh! I just ran over to the guy who does the tweeting for our company and made sure he tweeted about this lol If you guys ever want to know wtf this Conflict Free stuff is about you can ask me I do the Traceability reporting for the scheme. Our scheme is just one of the ways that Intel have ensured that their supply chain is conflict free.
