  1. I've seen a few things on amazon but nothing made for building a desktop pc. So I guess il have to create a mod using an easy button or something.
  2. Does anyone know of a case with a Obnoxiously big "power on" button?
  3. Similar issue, Motherboard is ASUS Prime B350 Plus, w/ Patriot Viper Elite Series DDR4 8GB (2x4GB) 2133MHz Kit -PVE48G213C4KGY, CPU is Ryzen 3 1200 and i get this BSOD whenever i try to retrieve files over a network or when i try to update windows via the media creation tool. Trying various things to see if it can work, ASUS says the Ram i have is not compatible, but this article says otherwise.. ( AnandTech.com ) I'm thinking ASUS knows their stuff on this one... Update: So like many others I've installed a fresh version of Windows 10, not an old retail copy i had laying around, and that resolved Windows 10 not being up to date, but unsure if any other conflicts are lurking, need to do more testing. I already ran cinebench three times, and everything is working good so far. Forgot to mention i updated the bios after i installed (old retail) windows 10, which was when i started getting problems. Anyways, back to more testing.
  4. Just messing around right now, and I'm rendering a mosaic of four 1080p videos together, and its like 7%, so at this rate it would take two days to render that.
  5. Ever thought, wouldn't it be cool to create a mosaic of 1080p videos? Well i am trying and it ain't working out with my hardware specs (no surprises there) But lets say, i wanted to create a mosaic of ten 1080p videos complied into one? with down scaling and without? What kind of hardware, and video editing tools are suited for this job? What kind of mula are we talking here?
  6. CHKDSK shows ssd is corrupted Cannot reformat drive, tried using the windows 10 USB stick to do a fresh install, which doesn't work because it says the volume is "locked" -strange as I don't have bitlocker or anything else like that installed that would cause that (corruption causes this message too?). Linux distro - says the volume is "unclean" and cannot be mounted. My only conclusion is the house I live in delivers power from the socket in an "abrasive" way that could cause the solid state drive and other components similar to it to become corrupt or lose data. Diskpart shows both disk and volume are not read only, so no issue there. conclusion: It's probably not the fault of the ssd- but an electrical issue that's been known to cause problems with other household items. Strange thing is : I am still able to use the OS on the drive, like normal, just can't make any changes.
  7. Memtest86 results shows 0 errors Isolated drive and attempted to save a file to it - then restart - file is missing upon restart - this time booting from a different windows OS on a different drive, on a different computer. (using a " Sabrent USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Hard Drive Converter "). SFC shows corrupted files- issue may be with windows - attempting to repair by doing a fresh reinstall.
  8. Memtest86 was another thing i'd like to try, sure.
  9. File is deleted - restart - return to local C to see that it is still there. I think it's time to do a clean install and do some maintenance - ill get to this weekend - do some more testing.
  10. The OS is working - the only other .exe I can run is Open office - which works, so as far readable goes yes - for anything previously installed, anything new isn't going to hold water after a restart. It's like half the solid state drive has given up and decided all new data is going to be stored in a volatile manner - much like how RAM is suppose to work, So weird.
  11. I'l isolate the SSD, and test it with another machine - see if I can get it to retain a new file
  12. could be a multi-factor issue - where the BSOD is not related to SSD data retention.
  13. I've had this solid state drive for almost two years - the oldest file is time stamped 07/15/2015 - and now I am getting a BSOD with a memory management error, consistently, every several hours of continuous use, 78 GB of free space, I have two other drives I use for gaming and long term storage. I create three files with the same name on all three drives, I restart my computer, and return to find the identical file on the SSD is gone. The hard drives retain data, the SSD doesn't. What does this all mean? Time to get a new SSD. The OS is on the SSD, and its still working - however I cannot writing anything to the drive and have it retain the data. Haven't tried a clean install of the OS, but will do so before visiting Frys. Thought I'd share my findings
  14. Amusement. I put all the parts together, the system works, even with DDR3 @ 1.5 volts, am i going to leave at that? hell no, i'm going to buy some DDR3L tomorrow, and i may buy a new motherboard that supports DDR4 in the future, maybe. i also made an adjustment in the bios to set the DRAM voltage to 1.35 volts, that's probably not enough to keep the CPU safe, but hey i'm just testing this out, until i can get some DDR3L. A quick look at the temps show that the CPU Temp is 42 degrees Celsius, and the Voltage is high of course, i think it was 1.025v, i'm not going to check again, i'l wait until tomorrow when i have the proper ram Update* Copied from CPUZ: Memory type DDR3 Module format UDIMM Manufacturer (ID) Patriot Memory Size 4096 MBytes Max bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz) Part number PSD34G133381 Nominal Voltage 1.50 Volts CPU voltage according to the UEFI/BIOS is 1.024 volts, CPUZ hasn't indicated that the voltage has exceeded this, i talk to intel and they are aware that ODMs are making these kinds of motherboards, and they said they will still honor their 3 year warranty should the CPU die. They also pointed to the voltage specifications, which are the following The operating voltage for the CPU: 0.55 volts min, - 1.52 volts max at idle: 0 min - 0.55 volts max So what i'm going to do is update this thread once and a while to see what happens when you use a standard DDR3 stick set to 1.35 volts via the UEFI with a 6th generation Intel processor. I'm thinking it will live a long life, believe it or not.
  15. First Skylake, Budget Build: Asrock is cray-cray. I think i need to buy some DDR3L, what do you guys think?
