yackson reacted to Morgan MLGman in RX480 vs R9s listed
"Overclocking edge"? I wouldn't call it that, as a 1200mhz 390 should beat a 1500mhz 970 anyway. Not to mention gimped 4GB of VRAM, poor DX12 performance in which the 970 often loses performance instead of gaining it etc.
480 is a better buy than both of those cards, draws less power, is newer, newer manufacturing process, newer features, and performs on par to those cards in a worst-case scenario, because these are day one drivers + a reference design card. Not to mention that it's cheaper.

yackson reacted to Kryptyx in PSA: Dont buy a 480 yet until issue investigated
Nvidia overhyped the card and moreless falsely advertised temperatures and overclock expectations. They also held a lot of the chips in house this time so they could keep cranking out FE cards while leaving the board partners with shortages.

yackson reacted to The Benjamins in GTX 1080 FE high temps
they run hot, thats why no one should buy the FE if they are not going to water cool it.

yackson reacted to Okjoek in GTX 1080s no stock? BS
In stock at the Destiny mall in Syracuse NY. This was end of the day too and the store was nearly empty so it'll probably be there tomorrow.
700 dollars? No Nvidia, try again.
No way I'm paying more than half that price just for a GPU. I'll wait for RX 480/90. For those getting gouged, I hope those extra frames were blessed by the Pope himself.

This is what I used my 980ti Hybrid for yesterday.

yackson reacted to don_svetlio in rx 480 vs gtx 1070
Of course it won't - the 1070 costs 450$ - RX 480 is launching at 230$ - that's about half the price - expect the 1070 to be 40% faster on average.

yackson got a reaction from Luki in Asus r9 390 Strix Overheating
I said it runs below 80, and it does it at 40% fan speed. My ambient is usually around 27 degrees. It's the cooler design. MSI has one of the best coolers for the R9 390, while ASUS has one of the worst. It's a well known fact.

Make it into a necklace and wear it a la Flava Flav style

yackson reacted to CostcoSamples in What to do with old graphics card?
Use a router to cut a hole in your desk the size of the gpu (but not all the way through the desk), put the gpu in it, and fill it with clear epoxy flush with the top of the desk. your old gpu is now immortalized in your desk forever!

yackson reacted to App4that in Should I sell my 390x?
RX 480 looks to be 390 or a little above in performance. You'd be lucky to get a sideways move, might lose some performance going to the 480. Wait for Vega.

yackson reacted to Lord_Karango17 in 2 gtx 690s vs 1 gtx 1080?
Reads sli 690...
Cringes
The sli scaling on your setup and the measly 2gb vram will be holding you back, so it would be best to move to a more powerful single card solution. I dont doubt the raw power of 4 680's but the practicality isnt there with the amount of broken pc ports these days.

yackson reacted to DXMember in 2 different graphics cards in 1 pc
nonsense, you can use any video adapter for display output

yackson reacted to DarkBlade2117 in GTX 1070 same performance as R9 390
I swear AMD was bashed for bad launch drivers, now nVidia is being defended for it? Didn't some people complain that a GPU should have top notch drivers on launch in the RX 480 instead of getting much longer driver support and performance increases each update??

yackson reacted to roughavoc in Graphics Card Choice?
You're going to be kicking yourself in 7 days when the 1070 releases.
-
yackson reacted to Dackzy in Graphics Card Choice?
You can't do that, it has to be 100% the same model with Nvidia so a 1070 can ONLY SLI with a 1070.
And crossfire is AMD. WIth AMD you can crossfire different cards as long as they are build with the same architecture.
-
yackson reacted to Energycore in Which do you prefer? 1080? 480?
I prefer 3lb. Bags of Haribos. Best price / performance out there.

yackson reacted to aisle9 in Cheap GTX 980s worth it?
No. The 1070 outperforms it for the same price, and the RX 480 will perform right around that level for $200 US. Let someone else buy that card.
-
yackson reacted to Lays in GTX 780 VS R9 290
780 is quite a bit faster, if you can spare the $60 CAD, then for sure get the 780 instead.
If the r9 290 is anything other than a reference, it's probably best to go after the 290. (if it's the roughly the same price as the 780)
-
yackson reacted to LeStringMan in GTX 780 VS R9 290
I would get the 290.

Why not just get the new AMD card coming out, the RX 480? Its $200 and will beat both of those cards...
