I once had a client call me and tell me that her "cup holder" wasn't working properly at he desk.  In a very confused voice (I'm sure), I inquired why she'd call me about a cup holder.  She simply said that it was the one on the "CPU Tower" so she thought it'd be my type of thing to fix.  Turns out, she had been using the CD Tray as a place to set her coffee cup down.  The day prior to calling me she had spilled a half-full cup of coffee down the front of the tower. . .

A lot of people have posted about that same thing already
I just had an idea as to why it might be such a common mistake.  I mean, to anyone who knows about computers surely they would know that's not what it's for, but I think this comes a lot from the apparent mystery about computers.  Older people grew up in a world where robots looked like this:

and yet had fully capable (if not a bit slow) human-level AI.  There was a notion that robots/computers/fancy general purpose do-everything machines would be common place, and they seem to think modern computers are these magical things.  I think this might explain why they won't bother even attempting basic troubleshooting like a "is it plugged in?" check, and why they never stop to think about what that tray in the tower is for.  I mean, it's obviously a cup holder - just look at it!  No way is a computer a specialized device and by extension that tray a purpose-built thing for dealing with computer-related items; this box brings me the future and as such does many things - it loads the facebook, holds my coffee, and soon there will be one that does my work as well

A friend was messaging me about peripheral upgrades, and I told him he should look into mechanical keyboards.

He responded "Are they more powerful?"
