  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I dont have any other (slower) ram on hand so i guess i would return the current sodimm and change it for the slower ones. i will get 2x4gig for dual channel if i'm on it. the NUC is for Home assistant and fast enough. it will be placed on a enviroment with very low air circulation so dust in the system is not an issue since my NAS from 2012! is still running almost spottless clean. thanks for the feedback.
  2. Hello fellow, Recently i bought a Intel NUC7PJYHN Intel NUC Kit NUC7PJYHN Product Specifications A Lexar NQ100 2.5" SATA ssd and Kingston 8GB pc4-3200 LC22 260-Pin SODIMM . After easy assembly my NUC won't turn on. The system does nothing, not even the fan spins or the screen doesn't do anything. the power button LED is flashing 3 times Intel® NUC Won't Start, Power LED Blinks/Beeps Three Times... i learned that the ram is incompatible with the NUC probabably becuase the MHZ are to high? I thought RAM would downclock automatically of whatever i thought. i thought it might work. Is there any way to downclock the ram or do anything that this thing wil boot?
  3. Thank you for the info. I will look into a cheaper startoff point though. I was thinking. When i am going the esxi route. Then i have to have a HBA, so then i dont need 8 sata ports on the mobo right? cant i just configure the sata ports to do passtrough in Esxi? And wouldn't it be better to start off with 4 Disks in z1 raid en then later buy 4 more and do another z1. i think that would be just as efficient in space usage as 8 disks in z2. and i have the option to, if that excists in that time to buy 4 like 6tb or 8tb disks for cheap. And wouldnt a z1 pool be faster then a z2 because of the parity compute?
  4. i have thought about it but i have no knowledge of AMD and there architecture. And i really like supermicro and their IPMI capabilities.
  5. i wanted to say that it would be cool to print my company logo on an extremely gynormous mousepad until i read this: '(500 piece minimum order-no setip fees)'
  6. you can just install the OS on the new boot device and set the boot prio in BIOS.
  7. That would be cool for a lanparty where the whole line can game on 1 mousepad.
  8. Hello guys and thank you for reading, TLDR; I want a streambox that can easely transcode (4k) hevc and h264 to multiple clients with plex and do some more. I have a hard take making decisions on buying the best hardware for my needs. I have some wishes i would like to fullfill with a server and i dont know how to configure it. Maybe you would like to join in the debacle. I'll list the functional requirements and maybe you guys can tell me what i do right/wrong. -Hold all my movie collection -Stream, transcode (HEVC 10 bit to be future proof) with plex with minimum 3 transcoding streams and 1 direct stream at a time. -Big datastore where i can make shares so all the computers in the house (maybe outside the hous) can dump data on -Host minimum 1 linux vm, 1 windows vm and a mac vm that i can access with rdp from inside and outside my home -be a receiver for backups of nas boxes of my friends (offside backup for them) -Make backups offside myself That are pretty much my wishes in the order of priority. Now i found that the e3-1275 v5 is capable of playing 4k netflix and transcoding with the new internal video graphics that is supported by plex to hardware transcode or something. I dont have exact understanding how this works. Can you please advice me how i can build better, cheaper or whatever? all advice is welcome PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wc4w4C Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wc4w4C/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel - Xeon E3-1275 V5 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($336.44 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Supermicro - MBD-X11SSH-LN4F Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($211.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Crucial - 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($184.99 @ B&H) Memory: Crucial - 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($184.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Western Digital - Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($133.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Fractal Design - Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($94.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($72.98 @ Newegg) Total: $2158.29 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-08-04 10:10 EDT-0400 The 2th question is, what OS to run. run esxi and host a freenas vm that has direct acces to the disks with vt-d and make some vm's with the linux, windows and mac vm. or run freenas bare metal and run those vm's inside freenas. Thanks for the advice!
  9. i do know that. but in my case it is more quiet. the aircooler on my gpu made a lot of noice and didnt have a 0rpm mode. my watercooler is big enough so i placed 2 low rpm noctua coolers on it that are more quiet than the stock aircooler and i have reduces the speed of the pump so that i dont hear it anymore.
  10. i did it because i wanted a dead quiet work station when working and light gaming. i did lie a bit. i did overclock it a bit with afterburner but only for one hour and didnt see any effects in real performance so i never tried it again.
  11. i have.. I'll try that.i will first boot without videocard and then restart and try reseating the gpu and try again.
  12. i never OC anything. it was working when i shut down the pc. when i started back up, it didnt work on displayport. any other port works..
  13. i dont have another gpu laying around. I did however isolate some things. I did update the drivers to the latets one from 2 days ago. Didnt work. did the reinstall with ddu. didnt work. Did plug the displayport cable in another computer. that did work. so cable isnt the problem ( that cant be. i shut the computer down no problem and after a reboot it broke??) so i dont have a clue. I have a watercooled block. so i cant 'just return it for warrenty'.. the block is still working. pump is fine. never overheated. never spilled water.
  14. if you can spend the money, This is the best one. GLOBAL CONCORDE PRESIDENTIAL CHAIR
  15. Hello fellow friends, i have a GTX970 connected by displayport to a asus 248qe 144hz monitor. 2 days ago, i shut my computer down with no errors or some strange updates or whatever. When i started my computer back up yesterday, my monitor showed a very strange blocky image like the resolution was 800x600 or something. When i got to displaysettings i saw that my resolution supposedly should me 1080. when i put the resolution 1 step down, my screen went black and never came back up again. I restarted my pc by pushing the on/off button twice and still, no BIOS screen, no nothing. 'displayport: no signal' is what my monitor says. So i shut the computer down again and connected everything with HDMI to test and my screen went on again. no problem, computer works fine, but at 60hz which is a real step back from 144. Anyone knows why my displayport doesnt work anymore? any tips to try? i dont really want to buy a new videocard just to play at 144hz again
  16. i have the same problem on a asus 970. i put black tape on it. And yes they are on even when the computer is turned off. Not even functional at all.
  17. where is the doom multiplayer? is that not included in the game?
  18. it needs to be in the right forum but i like those deals. and indeed. a link would be nice. the game is still 20 euros here
  19. I dont think that rule applies here. And @FIXXX tnx for the heads up.
  20. or another option. get a rich girlfriend and take her fancy car. you get to work quicker so you have more time left to game.
  21. if you know how networking works, you know that a splitter wont work. just buy a switch.
  22. better for performance? 970. Better for your battery of laptop? 1050.
  23. it's a crappy one. even if it works, buy a new one.
