Nvidia being assholes with HairWorks again - go figure.
Errata: Technically the decision to put Hairworks-heavy objects far away / hidden from sight was on the developer, but one has to think that the artificial decrease in performance for cards that aren't optimized for tessellation be it AMD or Pre-Maxwell Nvidia has something to do with the GPU maker that's got its name written all over this title's marketing.
-
@Technicolors Yes, if you disable / tone down tessellation, you will have increased performance on Kepler / AMD GPUs. We'll likely get a driver that does this for FFXV and anyone on the "AMD Optimized" Tessellation settnings is likely to see better frames than those who don't.
-
@Princess Cadence it being expected doesn't make it any less obnoxious so I'll continue to post this every time it shows up

Well see, the problem isn't that. We could enjoy HairWorks on other cards and take the performance hit whenever we're looking at an object that's got it.
The problem is that very often, Nvidia (or the dev working
forwith them) manages to sneak in additional HairWorks or Tessellation in places that are completely unnecessary. For instance, on the cows that are so far away you can't even see them behind the foliage yet still have full res hairworks in, tanking performance for no visual gain whatsoever. You have to think that this is on purpose. If it was by accident, then it's very unlikely that the "accident" of adding these would have happened over 4+ games in the last 2 years.

@Energycore So, you are saying that you will continue to beat a dead horse until this shit ends?
All joking aside, the squeaky wheel DOES get the grease.
-
@Cinnabar Sonar I will continue to beat this dead horse until it stops trying to eat my brains

Godspeed @Energycore!
