  1. Good point. HP uses the quick method though, it takes like 5 seconds. I did have another thought. Tomorrow evening I am going to try updating the bios. I'm fairly certain it is running on the bios from two years ago. The person I got it from isn't likely to have updated it. I should know, she is my daughter. LOL
  2. A couple days ago I was given an HP Victus laptop. It has an i5 12500h and an RTX 3050. It was running and working but I wanted to factory reset it to get rid of the previous owner's stuff. I initiated the windows reinstall and when the system rebooted it said the hard drive had failed the SMART check and wouldn't continue. The drive passes every other test HP has in their hardware diagnostics. Am I crazy for thinking a 2 year old NVME drive that was apparently working fine shouldn't just fail like that? I googled this and about the only thing useful I came up with was a reddit thread from a couple months ago with the exact same problem. Any ideas or do I need to buy a new drive? EDIT TO ADD: I've tried 4 different sticks of ram in both slots, not that it should matter. EDIT 2: I just used a recovery USB drive with Diskgenius on it and viewed the SMART status and it says the drive is fine.
  3. I was going to guess wireless earbud case charger.
  4. I'm having a similar problem but I have adblock disabled and I have Youtube Premium. System is a 5800x, 3080, 32GB 3600 ram and windows is on an NVME drive. Sometimes video and audio stop even though the buffer bar at the bottom is well past the played content in red. Sometimes the audio plays but the video stops. Sometimes I shift click to open a video in a new window and the video loads but nothing else making it impossible to fullscreen the video. I have to f11 out, close the window and try again. I am using firefox on Win 10. I saw someone above mention newer Nvidia drivers can cause this. What version should I try rolling back to? Speedtest results:
  5. All I am going to say regarding the "eww nvidia" sentiment is look at how AMD is handling this 110 degree hotspot fiasco. Lets be real, both companies do shady stuff....a lot.
  6. Hi folks. I'm starting to get back into fixing computers for people after a couple years off. Is Hiren's still decent or is there a better free alternative to boot from a USB?
  7. Fixed it, don't ask me how though. I was poking around in the settings while mostly drunk last night.
  8. LMAO, 1/4 of my current ram sounds like a bad idea.
  9. Any idea how to get a space between RAM and the number? This is causing my OCD to slowly kill me.
  10. OK, I accept the B550 argument. As for the 3070 I wasn't implying that the video card would not match the motherboard. I was saying that if you can afford a 5900 you might consider a better graphics card. OP gave zero indication what this system would be used for. If it is for gaming it is horribly configured. If it is for content creation maybe it makes sense. I guess what I am trying to say is we need more information. I am a gamer so I tend to approach everything from a gamer's perspective. I know that isn't always right but for me to look at something different I need more info, not just a list with no context.
  11. I have one question. Why the hell would you pair a 5900x with a B class motherboard and a 3070?
  12. With the prices you have in your PCPP list in mind I would go with this. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rQdpH2
  13. Right, but 650 for a 2060 is really nuts comparatively.
  14. I just price checked. Newegg has a 3060ti from MSI for 579.
  15. Why in the world would go with such an old processor? For around the same money you can get a Ryzen 7 5800x that will be considerably faster. Also, for 650 bucks you can get a 3060ti or similar which will be much better than a 2060.
  16. What motherboard are you using and are you using onboard audio? I ask because I am having a similar issues but mine can sometimes be resolved by just muting/unmuting my volume. Other times changing audio outputs (plugging in my headphones or unplugging them) fixes it. I have never had to restart my PC though.
  17. Thanks. I tried that last night and when I switched quantity to 3 it said the seller only had one available. It let me pick 3 now. EDIT: Just noticed the .ca. That is on me. I should have stated I am in the US. It won't let me order them.
  18. I recently upgraded my computer and installed a Corsair ICUE H115i Elite Capellix AIO. It came with two LED fans (ML 140 RGB) and a Commander Core fan/led controller. I would like to replace the other fans in my system with compatible fans but without adding another control module. So, in short, I am looking for corsair fans that will work with the Commander Core. I looked on Corsair's website and it is less than helpful. I know it says I can't use "SP" fans. Thing is, when I try and find fans most of them don't show plug types and I am reluctant to spend north of 100 dollars on fans that might not work. If anyone has this AIO or the Commander core and knows what fans I can use (140mm) I would appreciate a model number or a link. Thanks. EDIT: I know I can get a two pack of the same fans that came with the cooler but they come with another controller. I really don't want to pay the extra for a controller I am never going to use,,,plus I need three fans, not two. Edit 2: I guess what I really need to know is if the "LL" series will work.
  19. I agree, I am at least two weeks out from actually ordering anything. Just putting a feeler out right now.
  20. I've been Intel for a long time, My son and my room mate both went AMD on their last builds but they were both zen+. I know things have changed a lot since then.
  21. I've been overclocked to 5GHZ all core for a long time. This may be the last time I get to upgrade for a few years.
  22. Budget (including currency): ~700 USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: FO4, Forza Horizon 5, RDR 2, Light video editing Other details : Reusing ram, case, power supply and a couple SSDs. Already have all my other parts in my cart (3070, pcie gen 4 nvme drive, 12 TB storage drive.} I have three 1440p monitors and do, occasionally do surround gaming. The real question I have is if you would go: AMD: Ryzen 7 5800x with an MSI MPG X570S EDGE MAX WiFi for $693.99 INTEL: Core i7-12700K with a MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 for 689,98 The cpu and mobo will be replacing an aging 8700k and a MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC.
  23. Some games had stood the test of time though. Look at UT '99. With the community support that game has aged INCREDIBLY well. I'm not saying it is triple A equivalent but for a 22 year old game I still enjoy it.
  24. ...and now I am watching some Forza Horizon 5 video drooling and waiting for release day. Here is to 40+ years of gaming.
