Pretty much basic OC for now but I have planned pushing it a bit further (4.6Ghz on all cores first, then see what happens, then maybe I will try tweaking individual cores).

The summer ambient temps are killing me though and my significant other doesn't look happy when I push even more heat into the room

I don't know about that "no problem" stuff as you've laid down some nice numbers.

Unfortunately, the 1080p test has become nothing more than a CPU test.  With 1080s and 1080Tis at 1080p, draw calls are just too much for the CPU and the only way to increase scores is to push CPU clock speeds to very high levels (5GHz and higher with decent IPC).

I'm not sure what you've tried so far for CPU clock speed, but there are a few tricks that can help.  A "per core" OC or a "per usage"  OC will allow you to clock individual cores higher than the rest without thermally saturating the chip.  You could also disable cores and achieve slightly higher clocks with the remaining active cores thanks to lower temps (Valley only needs 1 core).  At the end of the day, it's still more fun to reach whatever score you get with all cores active so a "per core" or "per usage" OC would probably be better.

1080p is a waste of time for a rig as powerful as yours.

Hey bud.  Congrats on the scores and challenge excepted.  My x299 rig has been mining since the beginning of the year so I'm going to need to blow the rads out before I even think about it.  They look like they're coated in a whitish wool blanket at the moment.  Either way, you've raised the bar and I like your style.

My Internet works again now the cable underneath the ground going on o our house broke, we got a new one from a pole and it's travels less distance so the Internet is 50/9 instead of 32/7 so I can update the sheet faster now

Honestly I couldn't have said it better myself. I hate everyone says that just because battlefield is a little inaccurate at times it means anything can go and you aren't allowed to be upset about it. I mean I loved battlefield 3 and it seemed quite accurate and realistic implementing mechanics that most games hadn't yet like bipods decreasing weapon recoil and spread as well as supression. It had bullet drop that required to aim up and lead enemies and many more intricacies that other games just didn't have at the time. It seems like all everyone wants to do is brush off any sort of discussion of what is wrong with the trailer other than its sexist if you didn't like it.

Congrats man.  Sounds like a solid build.  Like @Tempestwins, I went with a Gigabyte Gaming 7 my first time around with x299 and Gigabyte makes a great board for sure.  I wouldn't look back if I were you.  I switched to the Asus x299 Apex for specific reasons.

I'm glad that you weeded through the typical "why aren't you getting x399 and Threadripper" bullshit that has become a mandatory practice on LTT.

done12many2 reacted to mr moose in Porn Pass (age verification in the UK)
It appears the UK is at it again with it's fight against underage porn access.  Although this time it is not as stupid as the last couple of attempts.  Instead of outright blocking or asking ISP's to verify age etc, individuals can buy a pass from their local newsagent which contains a key code that will verify their age for online content.  Which is great because it means you don't have to put any private details online in order to verify age.

Which I think is great, as a parent who grapples with allowing their kids to have freedom on the internet and protect them at the same time without looking over their shoulder.   I have tried out of the box tools (word and url whitelist/blacklists on the router), however these are very hit and miss,  they can block legitimate sites as well as they sometimes contain randomly letters in the page name/url that randomly create blocked words.

Typical of them at the moment, create a law and make the industry (and by extension the user) pay for it, because it appears you have to pay for the pass in the first place as well.  Not so happy about this, however their could be benefits to the wider community  depending on how easy/hard it is to bypass and how much it effects the industry.

I agree, although it could be used for gambling, dating websites and the online purchase of alcohol.  So it's not like you have to admit using it for porn.

Personally, I like the idea of a verification process that takes all the privacy concerns away and means you don't have to put CC details online, but like everything there will be a catches that many won't like (like having to pay for something you shouldn't).   I think if the government covers the cost of this then why would anyone have an issue?

EDIT, forgot to mention that back in my day if you wanted porn you had to front up to the newsagent or video store anyway, so it doesn't really effect me, I am not afraid to admit I like porn.

So on core counts it is on parity with 1080Ti so maybe only a small difference in performance depending on where clocks end up. More ram (more cost?) but lower bandwidth... unless there is a new trick which adds value, I don't think it'll make an impact for those already at 1080Ti level.

The IRS considers crypto currencies to be property.  They view it as a "virtual currency", but for tax purposes, it is handled as property.  Citizens are required to report gains.

Those who say that crypto is fake and those who say it's a real currency are both exaggerating to make some kind of point.   Just another day on the LTT forums.

I don't get it (I get it actually)

it's hard to discuss about mining in this forum due to emotional disruption.

My opinion on this, there's a discussion about decision to prevent asiic into mining zcash because with this machine the value will be reduced

I won't bother with the rest of the debate about the good/bad of mining/crypto, but along the lines of this particular point, Coinbase and GDAX (exchange) are FDIC insured (backed by the government).  They also report transactions in compliance with IRS requests.  Can't really say any of that about PayPal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that either is "safer".  Simply saying that their comparison with regards to security of funds is a "huge stretch" is exaggerating quite a bit.
