That did it, getting a rock-solid 60 FPS now. Thanks for the suggestion! Still some micro-stuttering but that could come down to the game or some other emulator setting.

It's really not a great price, just average given the current market conditions. Someone offered me $600 for my EVGA 1080. I bought it for $300 a few years ago so you're really not getting a "deal" but it's better than having no gpu.

Half-Life is a really special franchise for a lot of people and I would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that most of those people wouldn't want to spoil the game for themselves. This is why I haven't watched any content about it whatsoever.

My dad thought the HTC First would be just as good as the HTC One for my sister. My sister owes me big time.
During my younger years before I owned my own computer, my dad CONSTANTLY uninstalled Steam insisting it was a virus of some sort.
My dad has learned, but my mom, still double clicks on every god damned thing on the desktop/web/emails and gets random crap on her PC. My grandma does the same thing, installing EVERYTHING. My grandma said to me last week "It looked like an email from your sister trying to show me something cool." I laughed so hard.
When installing programs, my dad just clicks NEXT like crazy and installs like twenty toolbars, random crap, etc.

You have no idea how it is trying to explain to the imbeciles at school that PCs are easy to build and are vastly superior. I am not the type who goes out and bashes on consoles but one cannot deny the PC is better in nearly every way, and people just can't come to that conclusion. They look at the graphics on my PC and then back at their console and the difference in frame rate and the fact that I am doing many different tasks in the background, etc. and still claim that "Yeah that stuff doesn't matter to me" and that "I don't see a difference." And when at lan fests at friend's houses they all complain at me every time I even mention the unplayable frame rate. At least they're building PCs now... most of them anyways. I honestly wish I wasn't so caring about FPS and graphic fidelity... ah well. They're the ones missing out.

My dad still will not go out and get a new PC. He has reinstalled Windows many times, upgraded hard drives, monitors, etc. This is literally his 3rd GT 210 card in his rig. I don't know what his problem is... He probably has spent more money maintaining this PC than it would cost to buy a better new PC. He's gone from a 250 GB to a 500 GB HDD to now a 1 TB hard drive, along with a 1 TB external drive. He's had the Dell tech support guy out here like 3 times for stupid things, and the damn PC still hardly functions. The USB on the front just shut off the PC if you plug something in, and only 2 or 3 of the back ports work, and are used for mouse, keyboard, and printer anyways. I even gave him my Core i7, GT 540m, 6 GB RAM, 640GB HDD laptop that only needs the power plug fixed (which according to Frys would only cost a mere 80$) and he STILL will not fix it and use it as their primary computer. Not to mention he has 860 GB free on his hard drive. He has been SAYING he was going to get it fixed and use it for the past three months now but still he is stuck with his piece of crap. It's gone from Windows XP to Vista to XP and now to Windows 7. I have never seen a PC get so much use out of it than this one. Oh well, whatever floats his boat. I have my own so to be honest I really don't care what he does.

Both my parents have iPhones, and somehow manage to move half their icons into folders and onto random screens. My mom somehow managed to delete all her contacts (without restoring her phone) not sure what she did. She exclaimed to me later "Tristan I found my contacts! They were in a folder!" and then she was saddened when she opened it and realized it was just the app, and not her actual contacts.

I don't understand the obsession manufacturers have with making phones thinner and thinner. They've been thin enough for years and I would much rather have a larger battery. With how big the screens have gotten, there has to be enough room inside for a measly headphone jack. Admittedly, I almost never use mine anymore (Note 9) but it's nice to know it's there.

I'm not worried about storage I have some SSDs around that I can cannibalize, just trying to figure out which CPU to get. This deal is pretty nuts and with a free game to boot... looking at benchmarks of the 2700x with a 1080 vs an i7-8700k just seals it. Slightly fewer frames for half the price, can't argue with that. I'll go with the 2700x. Thanks for the help!

This thanksgiving my cousin & I decided to play LEGO Star Wars & Gran Turismo on the PS2 for old times sake and we ended up playing for hours, and after about an hour of awful graphics I realized "We could be playing this on my gaming PC" but I didn't feel like disconnecting everything and bringing it downstairs. Then I thought about how awesome it would be to have tons of emulators, my entire steam/origin library, movies, and streaming all in one box in my living room. This inspired me to build a little mITX rig to stick behind my TV for situations just like this.

I want this machine to be powerful enough to run moderately demanding games in ultra 4k 60fps. I don't plan on playing Witcher 3, Skyrim mods, or anything crazy on this machine - just some racing games like Forza Horizon 4, Project Cars 2, retro console emu, the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga (*cant imagine this will be an issue lmao) so I was thinking of putting a GTX 1080 in there since one can be had for around $300 on Craigslist at the moment and should keep me satisfied for a few years at least. I haven't built a PC since before Ryzen came out or really kept up with processor technology at all so I am at a loss for which CPU to pair with the 1080. I just don't want the 1080 to be bottlenecked by the cpu in any situation. I know games are now able to take advantage of multiple cores & threads so the more the merrier, yea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks !

Sold my old 3570k rig about a year ago and decided to stop gaming to "pursue life" & other hippie crap, and while pursuing life I got a new job where I coincidentally found myself working besides a bunch of gamers. I'm sick and tired of playing games on a GTX 960m craptop that can barely run PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on low at 720p, so I decided it's time to build myself a new rig. This PC will eventually evolve into something great, but for now it's just your generic run-of-the-mill gaming box. I'm a poor-ish college student with a limited budget so I tried to source as much as I could from Craigslist. Anyways, here are the specs.

    Case: Fractal Design Define R5
I wanted a case with good cable management and sound deadening material, so I went with the R5. Purchased off of Newegg, which I instantly regretted because I found an NZXT H440 on craigslist for only $70, which imo is uglier on the outside but way prettier on the inside with it's split power supply drawer. But alas. Price: $140 on Newegg

Motherboard: ASUS Z270 Tuf Mark 2
I was going to buy the ASUS z270 Prime-A but then I found this board on craigslist for $120. Offered the guy $100 but he was firm, and that was a fair price, especially considering the fact that I don't have to pay tax or shipping. New in box, guy purchased it then tried to return it to get an AMD board but Amazon messed up and refunded him and he got to keep it. I think the yellow accents completely ruin the board so I may plastidip portions of it soon if I don't end up upgrading to Coffee Lake.

    PSU: EVGA G3 650watt
Another great craigslist find, $80 new in box. I think it's hideously ugly but it will do for the time being. No need to upgrade, might paint the part visible from the case if I can.

    CPU: Intel i5-7600k
Bought from Frys for $220 with my Barracuda HDD, came out to $302 out the door. Didn't want to buy a used CPU plus there aren't any for sale in my area. Gotta love that Cali tax. Also didn't realize that the CPU didn't come with a cooler, was gonna use a stock cooler for a while until I got the rest of my setup situated (monitor and all that). Frys had a limited selection.

SSD: Samsung 256GB Evo Pro $90
Bought from a user on the LTT classifieds, hasn't arrived yet.

    HDD: Seagate 2TB barracuda
Frys pricematched to Amazon, $10 off $59 before tax.

    Cooler: Corsair H100i $60
Picking it up tomorrow from a guy on craigslist for $60. Wanted to get the Kraken X62 or BeQuiet! silent loop 280mm but both of those are more than twice the price of the H100i plus shipping. Really wish I didn't have to buy the H100i, I had 2 before and hated them both with a passion because of their noise and irritating clicking noise. I would get an air cooler, but don't want to have to worry if the RAM will have enough room.

GPU: Any GTX 1080 I can find on Craigslist for less than 500, will have the money for it next week.

RAM: 16GB of Corsair Dominator 3000mhz
Craigslist again, $120 and they are already painted white so they will match the inside of the Define R5.

Total Investment: $820 so far, after GPU a little under $1300

I will add more pictures and round out the post a bit more once I get off of work. Talk to you all in a bit. If you guys would have done some things differently to save money, let me know! Interested to hear what you all have to say.

Just wondering what you think a REASONABLE offer would be. The other day someone offered me $800, but I feel like that's a low ball offer. I could get $400 for my GPU anyways.
