  1. AVG was and is always my free antivirus of choice but when they forced the AVG Zen app into the install it became garbage. For me, after Zen was installed my PC took almost 2 mins to shutdown compared to a few secs before. So I did some searching and its pretty easy to install just the Antivirus without the garbage Zen App. Uninstall all of AVG first if you already got Zen installed. Unfortunately you cannot just remove Zen alone. Then you can find the offline "Antivirus only" installer in one of the AVG support threads regarding this issue. Here's one. Just download that an you're done.
  2. Thats exactly why I ended up deciding to keep the card. It overclocks well and the coil whine is not too severe compared to other cases I've seen on Youtube. Right now I only notice it at very low volumes or mute. Soon I'll be getting a pair of Sennheiser HD598 SE headphones for gaming, music, etc.
  3. Finally got my new Seasonic 760W Platinum PSU today. Installed it and it an awesome PSU. Very stable. The 12v figures are solid now, even under load but the coil whine is still exactly the same. Didn't get better or worse. I now have to decide if it worth RMAing the card or not. The coil whine is not too severe so can anybody who already has any previous RMA experience give me some advice?
  4. I would get the MSI GTX 1070. I got a Zotac GTX 1070 AMP a few days ago. Good performance, overclocked well, but its got some coil whine at high loads and high fps. Nothing serious but disappointing after spending a lot of money . I had an MSI GTX 960 before that and it was completely silent. I know coil whine doesn't depend on manufacturer but thats just what I would choose from my experience. Also the MSI coolers are really good, my Zotac's cooler is useless compared to it. And that's probably why the MSI is more expensive too, atleast where I live. Oh, and there's no need to toggle between silent, gaming & OC mode, especially if you overclock it using Afterburner anyway. And if you intend on keeping the factory OC, I still don't think gaming mode, idle on the desktop or on light apps is that much different from silent or OC mode (Temps, Power, etc). There is a difference in games however, that's where you need to choose if you want silent, Gaming or OC toggling those outside isn't very useful. I'm no expert so someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I always used my MSI Afterburner OC at startup and never used the Gaming App after that.
  5. I was having a look at those Corsair PSU's and I noticed that HX series is slightly cheaper than the AX. Whats the difference between the two? Which is better? And the "i" is only for Corsair link right? There's nothing else that different between AX and AXi? Update: Nvm, I did some searching and I found its not just Corsair link, its made by two different manufacturers. AX Seasonic and AXi Flextronic. I'm actually thinking about buying a Seasonic 760 Plat at this point. I also read that the PSU is most efficient at around 50% load (80 plus wiki) so 760 should be good for my setup.
  6. Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3d settings -> Global Settings. Then just scroll down and you'll find Power management mode.
  7. Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm no expert so, what do you mean by, capacitors used to stop ripple? And thanks I'll check the RM and AXi prices.
  8. Yeah as Gonio said, doing some searching people say it can be a CPU bottleneck. What CPU do you have? Also try "Prefer maximum performance" in the power options in the nvidia control panel.
  9. Hmm, what about drivers? Do you have the latest? I personally don't update every single time a new one comes out unless I start having problems with a game.
  10. Is it overclocked? If yes, it could be an unstable overclock. Sometimes the overclock passes stress tests but crashes in games.
  11. I did try removing all overclocks, cpu and gpu but it still whined. But as you said Its probably just the quality of the PSU. Thinking about it, my MSI GTX 960 4gb didn't need nearly as much power as this and that's probably why there weren't any issues before this card. So, multi-rail is better right? What multi-rail PSU would you advice me to buy? 1200W is surely overkill for my build. Here are my specs: Asus Z170 pro gaming MB i5 6600k Noctua NH-U9S Cooler 16 GB RAM DDR4 (2 x 8GB Hyper X Fury) Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Hyper X Fury 240 GB SSD Seagate 3TB HD And I've got 1 Phanteks case fan in the back + 2 more Noctua case fans in the front.
  12. I see, I should have done more research before buying that. I definitely have to try using a friends Corsair AX 1200i and see if it still whines. Thats as high end as it gets right?
  13. I just got my new Zotac GTX 1070 AMP card a few days ago and I was really excited since I was upgrading from a MSI GTX 960 4gb. But I immediately noticed that my card has coil whine during heavy loads and high FPS, which was very disappointing .I did some more testing and I noticed that the coil whine is loudest in benchmarks like Kombustor or OCCT, but it not nearly as loud during gaming, its still there but I have to put my ear on the open top of the case or mute my volume completely. And luckily its not at all there when idle. I also noticed the coil whine decreases when temps are higher, maybe its just a sensation because the fans kick in at those temps and they could be covering up the noise a little, I'm not sure. I was able to remove coil whine completely in games by using v-sync. No whine in 1080p vsync on, barely audible in 2k and slightly more on 4k but with normal volume I can ignore it except during the more quieter scenes. Some say, that a 12 hr or 24 hr GPU burn-in can make it go away completely. I tried Kombustor for 2-3 hrs, temps were getting too high (max 85) and I might have also got a slight burnt smell, so I just stopped that right away at that point. Maybe I'll do a more realistic load like Heaven or Valley for longer. I did this with my overclock so I guess thats why I got the really high temps, and I think this card's cooler isn't as good as MSI's Twin Frozr for example.. Others have said the PSU can cause the GPU to whine or vice versa. I'm using a Corsair VS 650. And when I bought it, I thought it being Corsair and all meant high quality so if anyone has any advice on that please let me know. I never had coil whine before this card as this is my first PC build and this card is the first upgrade I have done. Also doing some research I read the +12v value on the PSU is important. I'm getting a min of 11.4 during gaming or benchmarks, which is the lowest it can go before being considered a bad PSU, could this be the cause of my coil whine? I use HWinfo64 for monitoring everything. Seeing some videos of other people affected by coil whine on Youtube, I guess I still got lucky. I also contacted my shop to see if I could RMA it, they will take it but they say they need to verify if the card has any problem. And I'm thinking I'll probably get back the same card as the coil whine is not severe enough. So, I'd prefer solving the problem somehow or atleast reduce it as much as possible.
  14. Support had no idea why it wasn't working. It just randomly started working after a few reboots. But I did notice that this GTX 1070 has coil whine unfortunately. Luckily its only in stress and benchmark tests. During gaming it only slightly audible while playing 4k DSR, otherwise no coil whine during gaming. I read changing PSU can help solve the issue. Is that true? I've got a Corsair VS 650 PSU.
  15. I just installed my new Zotac GTX 1070 AMP edition card and I downloaded the latest Firestorm software from Zotac's website. The Spectra option does not work though, its just grayed out. Because of that I can't modify the cards LED lights. Anybody have any solution for this. I also tried getting an older version of Firestrom, this time spectra opened but its still doesn't let me do anything.
