pas008 reacted to BuckGup in Solutions
Why? I've genuinely done this many times. I'll post something and while I'm waiting for others to respond I'll keep searching on my own. Sometimes either with what someone else has commented or through my own findings I'll figure it out. So then I'll post the solution and mark it as solved incase others come across the thread in the future

pas008 reacted to Avocado Diaboli in The U.S. is considering whether to adopt a digital version of its currency
That's the point. I would be extremely wary if this passes and would keep a lookout for policy makers who argue that, since now you have a digital currency system backed by the government, you can abolish cash altogether. Cash is still the only viable means of truly anonymous transfer of funds with no third party keeping a record and therefore needs to be maintained as such. As soon as you hear people ask for a value transfer system that only goes through a government, you can consider yourself on the road to complete government surveillance.

This doesn't change the fact that you would see things earlier with the higher refreshrate monitor and start reacting sooner regardless if you can tell the difference between 240hz or say 360hz. And yeah I guess I might be one of the few as I play overwatch at masters level so 240hz vs 360hz was noticeable especially when play tracer that dashes and moves all over the place.

It's a moot point. Most of the news will go through TikTok anyways. In a world where most people seemingly have the attention span of a squirrel, who has time time to read paragraphs? They'll just watch 5 second clips instead.

pas008 reacted to BuckGup in Associated Press is going to start selling NFTs of their photos
You're confused as we exist in a transitional time of virtual and physical. If I stole an item and made an NFT it still shows undisputed that I own the stolen item. Everything that happens before that is offchain and is why we have so much fraud in society. So if someone is a digital artist they could make each of their pieces an NFT, not to sell, but as a way to show original ownership. If you want to transfer ownership you can use a smart contract as now everyone knows who the new owner is. So nothing gets stolen, the original artist gets paid, smart contract can cover all copyright concerns, and if one of the party lies the truth can be validated.

Normally the assumption is most people don't actively promote and practice self harm. Again your ignorance to the topic is showing. The current banking system is very similar to how the blockchain operates. You say our systems in place are sufficient, a quick reality check of the world says differently but believe what you want and live in the past as society will change regardless if you do or not. People bitched when blackboards came out in the 1800s, people bitched when we started using paper cash instead of gold and bartering, people bitched that the generation after WWI wouldn't amount to anything then they won the second war, and it continues throughout all of recorded history. This is not unique to crypto or you or me. Change is inevitable and you aren't going to do shit to stop it so I would rather be educated to stay relevant with society opposed to fight tooth and nail and die senile. Because at the moment you actively supporting companies like JP Morgan, Visa, Mastercard, and the US government. So to complain about national debt, student loans, the cost of homes, and anything financial related is hypocritical. You stand for corporate greed, fraud, and exploitation of citizens. Crypto brings back the power of finance to YOU and everyone in society. You don't have to bail the banks out again, you don't have to be a victim to fraud, you don't have to pay overdraft fees, you don't have to worry about credit scores, and the list goes on and on if you read into the mechanics of all of this.
I don't want to come off as brash or insulting I just seriously want people to learn about things and understand them. As you currently don't understand enough of the technology to see you are undermining yourself.

pas008 reacted to MageTank in Stolen EVGA GeForce RTX 30 Graphics Cards Found & Being Sold By Vietnamese Retailer
Again, there is some benefit of the doubt depending on how the seller of the fraudulent cards presented themselves and the product. If they presented themselves as a distributor of these products, then the retailer should have paperwork showing dealing with whomever sold these goods to them. If they paid cash under the table, then yeah... It would definitely be sketchy.
Let me ask you this. If Newegg purchases a large shipment of GPU's from a distributor like Ingram Micro, and it turned out that some of the cards sold by Ingram Micro were fraud (extremely unlikely to ever happen, just setting up a point here), would Newegg be held accountable for buying from a distributor that presented themselves as such? You can argue that its on them to do their due diligence to vet the distributor, but again, retailers are rushing for product because you have entitled consumers blaming them for a shortage, lol. They simply can't win at the moment.
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, this retailers best chance at defending themselves is to provide their receipts or bill of ladings to authorities and let them track the cards as they exchanged hands. If they don't have records of the sale or transfer of inventory, then they are rightfully screwed for ignoring basic business practices when managing inventory and deserve to suffer the consequences of their ignorance.

i'm not sure yet but imagine if you own the NFT on a pair of nike jordans or darth vader helmet
block chain proves you are owner while you can make a copy or copies(prolly pay for each game world) a csgo skin or an ESO skin or in meta which then in game you could trade or sell off
game company makes money for you uploading it but you potentially can make money distributing it in that game world
kinda what it sounds like to me seeing how all these companies are getting involved (protect their products and brands also) but honestly I have no clue

Good on them for offering as many as they can to the public and not hoarding some somewhere for some reason.

pas008 reacted to SpookyCitrus in RTX 3080 and i7-8700k, looking to invest in either new monitor or CPU
A new monitor would alleviate the resolution bottleneck. Your CPU should be fine with the 3080 at 1440p. If it were me I would get a 1440p 165hz or higher monitor and call it good. Upgrading the CPU is up to you, but for this particular issue you are experiencing isn't necessary.

pas008 reacted to SpookyCitrus in RTX 3080 and i7-8700k, looking to invest in either new monitor or CPU
Yes, fairly. 4K depending on settings you will be able to get around 60fps on most AAA or graphically demanding titles, where as at the same settings on 1440p your looking at 80 to 100fps or higher. I personally prefer 1440p 165hz or higher refresh rate monitors over 4k because the resolution/quality difference is negligible and the performance is much better.

Decent Air is cool for it. Perhaps even the Hyper 212 if it's cheap enough.
That's more than enough.

pas008 reacted to Fasterthannothing in Meta ordered to sell Giphy by UK regulator
Wait why reverse this. Look I don't like Facebook buying everything in sight anymore than the next person but they already went through with the sale and had permission the first time to purchase it. I have issues with the government telling people what to do with their property. If they thought it was a bad thing then they shouldn't have allowed the sale in the first place.

Not every game has be mechanically demanding for someone to like it with a high resolution and framerate. I run at 240Hz and I love even just moving the cursor and windows around the desktop. If they want to turn down settings that's their call but no need to gatekeep people who just want it.

pas008 reacted to dizmo in Thermaltake & Porsche's $1300 Gaming Chair
I like the design. Looks nice. I've owned several PD stuff over the years, and it's all been high quality. I imagine this is no different. Thermaltake is also known for partnering with car manufacturer design groups. Their BMW collab stuff was superb, and to this day is still one of my favourite mice. I imagine this chair is no different, with a lot of attention to detail.
Why? Just because it's not marketed to you, it shouldn't exist?
Depends on the materials used. Some aren't terrible. Plus they're generally much wider than an actual car bucket seat. Having used the cheaper ergo chairs from office supply stores, I'd probably take something like this if the option was between the two.
I'd imagine someone spending that much on a chair already has their system sorted 😉
At least they have pretty good adjustment, though.
You can grab them any time in liquidation sales, there's a few ebay stores that deal with nothing but that. Companies always spend their max budget even if they don't need the items, or they stand to lose that budget the next cycle.
EBay ships 😉
It's a design studio. Design is what they do. The studio has been around since the 70s. This isn't new.
Their Lacie HDDs are very nice units.
Ferrari itself sells very little. They just licence their name. Which, when official is an odd play a lot of the time, but they also just get ripped off left and right. As a smaller company I think they gave up long ago when it comes to legal action.
Porsche Design was a studio started by the grandson of the founder of Porsche. So. While they now are largely tied to the car brand, in the beginning he was just making things to go along with the cars, using his family name. Not exactly the same as cheapening the brand through mass marketing.
Interesting how you can base whether it's terrible or not when you haven't even tried it 😉 Gotta pile on that train though.
