so microsoft is trying to be like everyone else now because those companies are allowed to do it but microsoft isnt allowed?
seems kinda sided to hate on microsoft when you should be hating on everything else when apple google etc all require it
at least ms allows you still to go around for now while others there is no way around it
but lets hate ms for trying to follow the trend everyone else already does but wheres your complaints about them

tell me an OS that does majority of work for the users and supports billions of different hardware configurations

simple fix netflix could do is just verify accounts every 30days just like anything else now days

The problem isn't "password sharing" the problem is "passwords remain on devices when the person who signed in doesn't care"
 
Look, I haven't seen my mom in 3 years, My Netflix password is in her smart TV, and I gave her permission to use it. She will use it far more than I will. I watch Netflix maybe 2-3 times a month. I couldn't remove it even if I wanted to unless I reset the password, and then if I reset the password, I have to go reset it on all my devices. What a damn pain.
 
If Netflix really wanted to solve this problem, they would do what -everyone else- has done and allow one "parent" account create child accounts, and the child accounts get locked to their devices via parental controls.  If a friend/roommate/parent is the one using it, and you're mad at them, you can just disable their device from your account, rather than having to reset the password and inconvenience yourself.

what its not the same i can just buy from target or many other places and I can sell many other places
 
you see once you purchase your phone you should be able to do what you want and purchase software from where you want
just like any other computer/phone/console
cause i can buy switch codes/games at target/gamestop/etc
i can buy steam codes from many places
ios I cant do anything else that is anticonsumer

I am confused... most people complaining here, I am sure, if I spent the time, I can find a post saying that will switch to Linux... why haven't they?
 
To me, this is a non issue. You need a Microsoft linked account to do most things. To me it makes life easier for IT support to people, when reinstall are required. If Bitlocker is enabled for some reason, they don't need to hunt for the recovery code (which you can bet ignore to do the backup), bookmark/favorites are sync, do no need to deal with that, no need to setup OneDrive, Mail/Calendar if they use it, and more password to reset as they forgot it.. As for diy systems, well, when they make their account the first time on reinstall, it will activate. Plus, you need an account to use the Store in any case.
 
I am just surprised... people have 0 problem making Google/Apple account (which you can also use for MS account) for their phone (which I reminded you, does automatic backup of all your contacts to their service), Chrome web browser, YouTube, Steam, Epic game store, and the such. But, for their PC, it is the end of the world!!!! Google can track my online activity even in incognito mode, see who I call/message, how often I do, read my SMS/MMS, access to my contact...  That is all ok with you guys. Easy to make mass profiles, associate you with what your friends like to know more about you.. all good. But Microsoft might know what app you have installed if acquired through the Store.. Too much info right there...
 
So switch to Linux then, and make link your account their instead. All fine there.
 

 
Microsoft is going/pushing password-less (All Win11 OEM laptops have Windows Hello), and sync between systems, and easy getting setup for new computers and reinstall's, to get started as soon as possible. Simple as that.

It seems like the article mostly mentions downsides that come from swapping switches often... so if you don't do that much those points are irrelevant. I don't especially care because I'll likely never want to do this but if, say, a switch on my keyboard broke I'd like the option to order and drop in a replacement without having to desolder and resolder anything...

If the only way they are enforcing their privacy rules in their os is because everything runs through their store (which is what you're arguing) then that's not security.

consoles are for video games/entertainment only
can buy a disc or card versions at many retailers?
can I replace the drives in them? even with 3rd party?
can I get discounted codes for games dlc etc from anywhere?
or do I have to do it through their store ONLY

No, it isn't about a company being successful, both apple and google hurt their consumers, get off with anti-consumer tactics, any lawsuit or fine these companies get doesn't hurt them at all, the fine gets paid and they keep screwing consumers over with less control over the hardware.

they both should be divided up
