Love the comments based on just pure raster performance it's hilarious

    More rt and tensor
    Ser
    Optical flow
    Av1
    And many other things

It's like you guys can't handle change and the direction gpus are going to go because of old school raster

Let's compare what they are capable of completely seriously we

Also price wise I have no complains considering the other features and included hardware but will say little 4080 is huge screw up on Nvidia really anti consumer

Be very careful trying to compare compute results across generations and relating them to gaming. Since I started paying attention around Maxwell, every generation has come with it a significant uplift in compute performance relative to gaming perf. I've seen this through several generations:
980 Ti and 1070 are about same gaming performance, but 1070 is much faster compute.
2070 is faster than 1080 Ti in compute, but not in raster gaming.
2080 Ti and 3070, similar gaming perf, but in compute 3070 is way faster.

I don't know if Geekbench behaves like the apps I used in the past though, so try looking for generation on generation changes in that and see if what I observed holds for that also.

I'm due for an upgrade from my GTX-980, and will likely be making the move this generation. With the gap in between the 4090 and 4080 16gb, I would bet that in 4-6 months we get a 4080TI, that might be my solution.

I do think the 4080 naming is a bit of a fiasco, the 4080 12gb should have been the 4070. People would still be upset about a $900 70 series card but with todays markets that may be the reality we currently live in.

I love how so many people are arguing over what the "true 4080" is supposed to be, as if a name carries any meaning whatsoever. Seriously guys, look at the actual performance and determine if what you're asked to spend on it reflects what you're willing to part ways with. Nobody cares if you used to only buy to of the line xx80 Ti hardware. If what's sold under that moniker is now twice as expensive and you aren't willing to pay that for the privilege of claiming you've got a xx80 Ti model in your PC, then don't buy it. I upgraded from a 980 Ti to a 3080 two years ago and had the 3080 Ti been available at the time, I wouldn't have bought it at the price Nvidia demanded for it. And that lacking "Ti" on my GPU doesn't impact my self-esteem in the slightest. Don't fall into the marketing trap, you just look like gullible fools.

pas008 reacted to Blademaster91 in Tim Cook rails against """bad privacy regulation & sideloading""" in keynote speech
Ok so hardware security isn't really any excuse here to not allow sideloading then.
If someone wants to use the phone they paid for to pirate software then IMO they should be able to do what they want with it. There are legit reasons to allow sideloading, and because some people might torrent things isn't a reason to completely lock down the store and block sideloading.
There was an immense amount of backlash over the S version of windows that only allows apps through the windows store, yet its somehow fine when apple locks everyone down to their store.

This has nothing to do with security, its apple wanting to control every aspect of what you can install because otherwise it affects their app store profit margin and getting a 30% cut on every app, and charging developers $100 a year to submit their apps to the store.
And it has nothing to do with the hardware or security vulnerabilities, spectre flaws affected x86 and ARM.

I know as a triplehead(before surround)/surround gamer I have ran into issues of vram but very rarely for games i play, if i did usually my card/s wasnt powerful enough to begin and/or just turned aa down and/or off
also I know how easy it can be to screw up comparisons too considering nvidia's control panel and game's video settings
cant remember which games but but changing in nvidias control panel made them look prettier in my eyes but that could be placebo though too

Or a car with software locked features, putting extra battery capacity behind a pay wall is really ridiculous IMO, its about as dumb as BMW putting heated seats in every car but making you pay extra to actually use them.

ddr4 variants and especially ddr5 were like finding needle in haystack unless you paid way more
